I'm glad you have these videos out, they will be very helpful as time progresses. We just bought a new house that has PEX pipe. I am wanting to install a whole house filter setup and the PEX videos are very good. I worked many years as a pipe fitter but never ran into PEX before this house. Thank you for the concise teaching video. I am always wanting to learn new things or better ways of doing projects.

I've spent my life solving tricky problems as efficiently as possible. One way to deal with the sliding of the NON pro-crimp ring, is to simply use painters or scotch tape to hold it firmly in place temporarily. Another solution that doesn't waste material is to learn to tie a very simple knot with string to the side that it might slide to. Such as a Constrictor knot on a bight. This allows you to use one piece of string multiple times, cutting down on going through tape and having to work that into your ongoing expenses if you do this kind of a thing on a regular basis to make your money.

Can you use the copper crimp rings on both pex a and pex b?

no pex a is different method, parts and tools.

I like your lessons and the convenience of you demonstrating things on your table which is very valuable, but.... Is there any way you can do your demonstrations under a real demo sink with running water so that you can give us more realistic hands on results and show us how difficult it could be in tight situations, and how that wide expand of that crimping tool will work under a sink with the plumbing going down through the floor. I would like to see the moment when you cut the pre existing pex B pipe after turning off the water so we can get educated on how water pressure works and how it can be messy unlike the clean dry easy convenience of a partial dry pipe demonstrated on a dry table....
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
Installing PEX under an existing sink or vanity is really a pain in the butt, but typically the PEX ends at the angle stop shutoff value that should be in a location that is somewhat free of all the other lines. Last time I did one, I removed all the drain lines first so I had enough room. When we update our plumbing lessons we will make a video in field type setting vs the classroom. But that is certainly not where we would have started, as filming under a sink is harder than it needs to be for a lesson

If you are crimping a pipe in the wall , how do you get that big tool close to the wall or in tight spots
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
That is a challenge. The pipe often moves around a bunch until all connections are made, so select the order of connections to make carefully. Then attach the pipe to the studs last. But it is a often a challenge.

Does the orange plastic ring on the pro crimp ring serve a purpose?
@ConstructionEd9 ай бұрын
yes - it acts as space to help line up the fasteners

I find the rings slip back and forth along the pipe regardless of the brass fitting... Is there anyway to prevent this movement of the ring?
@nothankyou55245 ай бұрын
The Pro Pex ring is the one that claims to hold the ring in place. A little inert material would do the trick, say, bubble gum, tape, piece of thin cord tied in a circle "BEFORE" the ring. I've seen the cord tied around the crimp ring. When it didn't work out, they immediately knew why. I said nothing after "OR" before. A mistake generally sets the procedure in your mind. A very inexpensive installation lesson. Best wishes.

Hi, Can this crimping tool also be used with cpvc tubes? Thanks!!
@ConstructionEd Жыл бұрын
I would not use it for PVC or CPVC - that tubing is glued together at the fittings

What is the best brand for crimp tool u recommend.? And what brand or type of pex is best for this type of job. Thank u in advance
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
I don't have a brand to recommend - it all depends on how often you are using the tool. But you can very go wrong with buying quality
@martinmercerjr86152 жыл бұрын
Which is better to use the brass fittings or the plastic fittings
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
We think the brass fittings are better, but they are more expensive. That being said, it could just be an unjustified bias. Many new home production systems use the plastic, but they are often trying to save a buck anywhere.
@bonniebonnie93882 жыл бұрын
can you use that crimper for cooper pipes and metal fittings? or is it just for pex ?
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
Nope - That crimper is just for PEX - There is a crimper for copper - but that process does require special fittings. I think they are great but they are expensive.

@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
The one we used in the video was purchased off the shelf from Home Depot. Many brands are quality tools - the main thing to look for is if it feel sturdy. You have to put a fair amount of strength into it - you don't want it to feel cheap in your hands.

I do not like the idea of the pro rings. The placement of the pipe can not be seen after the installation. If the PEX is cut at an angle or if it slips a bit before the crimp happens you cant see that problem. I would think building inspectors would have a problem with it as they are only looking at it after the fact
@joesledrider85302 жыл бұрын
will this tool also work with PEX with aluminum inside. So it's aluminum tubing with PEX on the inside and outside of the pipe? Which ring would you use? it's 1/2 inch pipe.
@ConstructionEd2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about PEX with aluminum in the inside.
@jamesmarois8130 Жыл бұрын
Pex with "aluminum " or metal in it is probably in reference to "kitec" which that company when bankrupt from leaking fittings lawsuit
