My mod 2 is in a fortnight so as well as having one more lesson I am trying to get as much info as possible from KZbin vids. I am doing DAS but still bought a 125 so I can get lots of on road practice. These are nIce videos, very useful, thanks for putting them up.

I live near Bridgend in South Wales, and training with Vale Motor Training. They have Suzuki VF 650 bikes (and others) which is supposed to be easy to ride but you would not like to see me do a u turn on one - its not pretty! Still they got me through my Mod 1 and I am hoping that they will do the same for Mod 2. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again for your great videos.

Success! Pleased to say that 4 of us went for the Mod 2 and we all passed. For what it's worth, my bit of advice for anyone about to take their test is to approach junctions slowly, very slowly, giving yourselves plenty of time to make the right observations and decisions on how to proceed. I know I had got into the habit of rushing things, but slowing the whole thing right down has helped me enormously, and guess what? the L plates have gone :-)

Depends on many things, how tight the junction is? what speed and gear you are in? are you moving off from a standstill? however I would say slowly release the clutch once you are in a straight line. If you explain more i will try and give you some advise ok.

Remember the bus lane!! I'll never forget the bus lane!! Failed my mod 2 today in an unfamiliar city, bus lane ( the type you must not enter) starting just as you round a blind corner, I must have missed the sign but the examiner did say don't go in the bus lane. A quick mirror and shoulder check then I veered right just before the line \_____ failed for " riding in the bus lane". Another anomaly, from watching your videos, when going straight ahead at a roundabout, for which the entry road is positioned right, they want you across to the left as you turn, immediately after the left exit and before the left entry, or even earlier for no vehicles turning left. I wasn't marked down for it but was told I could have been over to the left earlier as no vehicle to inhibit me. There was however a car at the left entry and from experience they have a habit of shooting out!! Also it seems OK to be across the mid line when passing parked cars on the left if nothing approaching from the right. My last left turn in an industrial estate close to the test centre, had pot holes across its entry and a car was parked twenty yards on the left, spotting both as I was about to turn, and no oncoming traffic I went inches over the middle of the road, a tar line rather than a white line, trying to avoid having to swerve out again, whilst also avoiding pot holes. Result 2 Majors 1 for signs ( bus lane) 1 for taking a corner on the wrong side of the road. I realise I was wrong but still feel cheated, if I entered that bus lane it was by inches, similarly the corner. What worries me more, is roundabout positioning for the re-sit, I will just have to practice!!
@stewartnorton6386
@stewartnorton6386 4 жыл бұрын
I was reading in a forum the other day and a guy said he failed for not using the bus lane. He was coming up to a roundabout and told to take first exit (left) off the roundabout. There were three lanes bus lane on left then two normal lanes. He stayed in the left hand normal lane and took the roundabout as instructed. When he got back he was told because he was allowed to use the bus lane he should have used that and therefore turn left in the wrong lane.
@michaellilley6725
@michaellilley6725 4 жыл бұрын
@@stewartnorton6386 Thanks for the reply, it seems if they're going to get you they will get you!! The bus lane I entered was a permanent one, which I believe has a blue bus lane sign, you know, the type you'd need to be stationary to read. Certainly not one you could pick up whilst navigating a corner. Another little catch out, is a manhole cover just about level with the right hand edge of the first exit of a roundabout, about 1/3rd out. 🔅 ( ) instructed to go straight ahead, the lane for which is right of the manhole. If you fail to pass to the left of the manhole, you fail. I also had at least 6 "pull in to the left hand side of the road for me's". 3 in the last two streets, I get the idea he was trying to fluster me, disrupt my flow, the second last one, was just before my wide turn, having just gone into 3rd gear he gave less warning for the turn, and I was focused on missing the parked car just round the corner. I resit on the 26th, I hope I don't give him even the slightest chance to not give me a PASS!! I hope your the guy passes 2nd time round, and makes sure he checks the times for the bus lane!! It really would be cruel, if at a different time of day he entered it, only to fail again. I'm sure RJH said it's only a fail if you fail to use it when you can and a car uses it and undertakes you. Of coarse there are ones which bikes can use but not cars, such as in London.

@@stewartnorton6386 Thank you Stewart, I actually passed my das twenty years ago and sent the pass certificate off to get class A on my licence, the DVLA returned it minus the class A along with the cheque which I included. " Unable to add your motorcycle to your licence wrong fee included". No one has ever been able to explain what fee was due, I paid for the das and the test, that should have been it. Now they say I need to resit, done theory, CBT, mod1, the rest you know!! I hope you are able to sit your test in your local town, unfamiliar territory is a recipe for failure, since local knowledge seems vital to passing. The CBT is easy, get some good practice for mod1, then learn the test routes for mod2, I've been riding since 16, 40+ years, less the last 18 or so, I figured I had mod2 in the bag, and did not learn the test routes in an unfamiliar city.....Bus Lane!! @ 12:40 ... "Those legs are the wrong way 'round Dom. It doesn't make a difference, but on your test it does.....". Damn! Something I had looked for for ages, since it occurred to me that on most (all?) riding school KZbin videos the left foot was always on the ground, while in (my) real life my right foot is. This is why I love KZbin: if you persevere you *will* learn something new. So: thank you +RJH Motorbike Training Manchester for saving me a whole bunch of minors (I guess?). :) (BTW: great instructional video, I learned a lot more watching this than just which foot to put out while waiting at a traffic light).
@RJHMotorbikeTraining
@RJHMotorbikeTraining 9 жыл бұрын
+Random We would always encourage stopping in the control position, ie: left foot down only. You need to consider if your right foot is down (no rear brake being used) all the braking is only front, which is not recommended. On test it would depend how it has effected your control. Glad you like the video's

Also, in your observations video, you say something along the lines of "theres a junction up ahead and a car could pull out at any time, so we're checking our mirrors". Isn't the last thing you want to do when approaching a junction (where a car could pull out at any time), take your eyes off the road ahead and look at your mirrors? Some of the stuff they expect us to do seems contradictory to safe riding.
@RJHMotorbikeTraining
@RJHMotorbikeTraining 9 жыл бұрын
Ryan Claringbull Ryan, thanks for your post. The last thing I would want, and I teach learners on bikes, or cars is not knowing what is behind me when approaching junctions!! Therefore we check our mirrors on approach to junctions, in order to establish what/if anything is behind in order to progress forwards safely. I call this riding defensively. Now if your looking in your mirrors at the wrong time, and for too long then yes you are taking your eyes off the road ahead. Hope this helps

Been watching some of these videos because I'm doing my CBT soon and being 26, I'm going straight for my Direct Access. I have one question, about the bus lanes, would it not typically be safer to not ride in the bus lane when there isn't any traffic blocking you, thus eliminating the chance of someone just turning into a road and knocking you off? I'm picking things up slowly, so I was just curious about that, as I'm still learning :) enjoying watching these videos, some good information, just wondered about that point with the bus lane.
@RJHMotorbikeTraining
@RJHMotorbikeTraining 7 жыл бұрын
On test you need to use the bus lane if times permit, you could pickup rider faults if you don't. Your Instructor can advise. I always use them even when out on my own if times permit, its amazing how much progress you can make. But yes expect and anticipate vehicles turning left across your path......Hope this helps and good luck. Keep watching and asking ok

This guy is amazing but I think it’s unrealistic the expect people to remember so much. The mod 2 needs to be changed because the pass rate has proved it’s flawed. 99% of majors never result in an accident or incident what so ever. A 40 min test doesn’t prove your a good rider even if you pass. The best way to do the test is to ride for a full 7 days learning from someone like this. If you can maintain a high level safety and proficiently get from AtoB then that should be it.

I'm thinking that different bikes would need different amount of observations over shoulders. On my R125 I need to do more consistent shoulder checks or otherwise I'll just be staring at my forearms all day haha. I tend to bring the mirrors out as wide as possible but I still need to check over my shoulders.
