Thanks for the shout-out, and I am impressed that you didn't murder my name, great pronunciation. And as you said, fantastic sounding mixer. Big fan.

I was one of the crowdfunding backers and got mine in August. The communication with the creators was superb at all times. And to the mixer - they have totally overdelivered in my opinion. Sound is amazing and the whole setup and configuration possibilities are nothing but great. This mixer is of course something for Connaisseurs, also in terms of pricing, but you totally get for what you pay for. I hope that the MDMX will have a very long lifecycle and that more interesting modules will be available over time. If you want to fully configure your mixer to your needs, this is the solution.

Really enjoyed this review. It seems perfect for long subtle blended mixing of House, Techno and such, reminding me of how I used to mix House back in the day on vinyl, without the frills of digital DJing (Which I love also). It will offer fantastic precision when layering two tracks, with the fine tweaking it offers, making the detail of the mix and the transition warm, uncluttered and seamless. I'd feel like I felt in those early days of DJing with vinyl, making the most of creative simplicity, if I put one of these between my Technics 1210s M2.

Part of what makes these high cost boutique rotary mixers so good is their architecture. Typically they’re designed with the shortest possible signal path to reduce noise. That’s why they often leave our parts like channel trim, it reduces the signal path. This modular mixer appears to have a really long signal path, with all the ribbon cables, in order to make it modular and easy to change parts without soldering. So, my assumption is that the sound quality will not be on par with other mixers with a similar price tag.
@menuraaudioАй бұрын
Hey, as for the signal path, in our experience the parts used within the signal path and the implementation of the circuits matter a lot more. Of course we use low resistance gold connectors for the module connection and all signal lanes in the cables are seperated with grounded wires. As per the conclusion of this review and the feedback of Laurin Schafhausen, a well respected audio engineer, the sound quality is on par with other boutique mixers. Thats also what we heard from our customers, everyone is quiet happy. If you are near Berlin some time we would love to invite you and listen together. All the best, Jasper

@ thanks for sharing your insight, I appreciate it. I will check out what Laurin has to say. And I will be in Berlin next year sometime. I will definitely take you up on that offer to come and have a listen. Thank you.

Thanks for the interesting and thorough review. I chose to back this project, based on curiosity and gut feeling. My first impression/reaction (after clicking and fastening the modules together) on hearing the sound, was a palpable rush of endorphines. So my body is giving this entity 5/5 stars. Menura support is in my experience efficient and to the point (had to be more precise when fastening a ribbon cable..) After watching review , I certainly want an eurorack module. (Yea, lets inhibit those endorphines with a steep learning curve..) Very happy with the mixer! I think Mojaxx suggestion of starting with 2 channels, is certainly worth consideration, especially now as Menura is offering discounts. And thanks for your feedback concerning the different sound quality on the output modules, Mojaxx. Now I want the 1620 output as well. 🙂👍🏼

Talking of Eurorack, I saw a short clip recently of someone at a synth tech gathering, using a module that sliced up breakbeats. Trying to find it again now...

Eurorack is a rabbit hole that's hard to escape from.
@ofootyeabicc201Ай бұрын
Damn menura actually said “first hit of euro-crack is free”. Check out bored brain and WMD for their performance mixers as there are straight-up DJ-style solutions for eurorack as well. For what it’s worth, I think the H9/H90 pedals are all you really need as a DJ(at least for weird shit) because a lot of eurorack FX are kind of a bit much. I’ll defend the DJM/RMX series of FX because they simply work. Check out VCV rack and run Ghosts n stuff through clouds and it might be a bit too weird to be danceable even if as a send/return aux. Regardless, I’m very happy this exists because users can have their suggestions be adopted faster because a whole wheel won’t need to be reinvented each time.

To be frank, this is the mixer where i've been waiting for for years... Easy switching between rotary and faders in the same mixer. I love my little omnitronic trm 202mk2 but mostly i'm mixing on my pioneer djm because only 2 channels and i have 2x3 decks to mix on (cdjs and technics sl's). With this mixer you can get best of both worlds. Lineair and rotary without changing a whole mixer and sound quality.

The problem with modularity is cost. Nine out of ten times its cheaper/ more value to go for dedicated with multiple devices.
@masterbond9Ай бұрын
honestly, the individual pricing isnt terrible. I'd love to see where this company goes, and how long they support it for. another concern is how modular is modular? could anyone build any kind of module for it and would it just work? what about the USB port? I'm sure they have a way of just adding midi or audio input support, but theyre still in the prototyping phase for those.
@darktherapyАй бұрын
The pricing is ridiculous. £158 for a Bluetooth module.. an ESP32 chip which has WiFi and Bluetooth combined is around £4.
@masterbond9Ай бұрын
@darktherapy and that is EXACTLY my point. Could you build an esp32 chip to interface with the mixer? I have a feeling that the Bluetooth module has more than just your average 4 dollar Bluetooth chip. I'm sure it has a stronger reception antenna, shielding, and a much higher quality DAC, plus the much higher quality (read: more expensive) parts on each board. Does the ESP32 even support aptx? Does the module for this mixer?

also, i'd really wish they'd just make other sized cases i don't get making everything modular, but forcing ppl to make it a 4 channel mixer regardless? sure there are blank panels, but if the goal would be to only make a 2 channel mixer, i'd much rather buy the cheaper case from the beginning, vs the overkill 750eur case that i wouldn't need what if some crazy live performer would need 6 channels, like the model1 users? what about a case with only 1 row of modules, to be used more with eurorack directly, and not necessarily as a dj mixer? what about an even smaller case, for other djs to use MDMX effects as sends/returns with other mixers (effect modules are clearly coming, since the case has sends/returns)? or what if somebody just wants a nice phono preamp and/or amp for their home setup? i guess none of this would be needed, if the modules could be powered by regular eurorack PSUs, then ppl could easily just use other cases for one or 2 modules, but seeing how this does not appear to be the case, the only way to use these modules outside of the huge 4 channel dj mixer case, would be for them to sell other cases lol either that, or sell PSUs individually as well please, so we have the option to use these in other cases so much potential, if these could only be used in other sized cases somehow
@PAVEL-JAKLАй бұрын
I would buy it if it was no more then $1500..
@menuraaudioАй бұрын
As much as we'd like to offer it for 1500, that's just not feasible for us. We are just a really small company and we have been calculating back and forth, but our quantities are of course nowhere near as the ones from big companys. High quality is our top priority, at our quantities this unfortunately comes with a higher price point. Also we need money to finance our ferraris and lamborghinis 😄
@saederkruppАй бұрын
As someone with a decent eurorack setup, I'm no stranger to Gas and higher priced audio gear. This is trying so hard to be different, while offering nothing that you can't get from cheaper or equally priced kit like xone 92/96. Also its' modularity is pretty limited. The signal chain is always the same with a few modules for coloring. As for eurorack, there are enough modules or cases that convert to line lvl. For example my befaco 7U case has 6 stereo line outputs.

@ginomiller100Ай бұрын
Is it just me, or is this music becoming really annoying? Even worse, it’s used in all your reviews, and it’s starting to feel repetitive and stale.
@controlrod81Ай бұрын
its over priced, well over priced. interns of the cost of each module and coming in at a cheaper price on the modules and being able to make it into a mixing desk with a digital sound card so it can be used with a DAW would of been a good trick team up with beringer to keep costs down
@darktherapyАй бұрын
Ridiculous system. Way overpriced for what it is. In all honesty how many dj’s would want to change aspects of their mixer when a high end pioneer can do pretty much anything. Why not just make a mixer with mappable buttons and controls/knobs and just change the faceplate to reflect the controls. Wi-Fi chips and Bluetooth modules are all so cheap they could just be included inside the mixer. £158 for a Bluetooth input is quite honestly taking the piss out of customers.
@tightspeedos6856Ай бұрын
“high end Pioneer can do pretty much anything”? Except actually know how to sound good since they’ve never implemented a high end component into anything.
