Hey Robbie, all your videos are fantastic, but this one bought back so many memories for me, pub crawling on a sat or Fri night, there are hundreds of pubs in Nottingham and I feel sure I went to all of them at some stage. Best video for me as I could relate to your journey. There is a pub (could be the Bell) in town center, trap door on the street with a crane drop, where convicted crims would have their last pint before they dropped the trap. hey robbie greate me duck! thanks! Great video. I was born and raised in Nottingham but left aged 21. I've spent hours on that short canal fishing etc and even cruised it once (in both directions). But I've also been to all of those pubs (I was a student at Nottm Uni as well). So great to see the pubs especially the Sal. I had forgotten that my dad once got us a visit to the cellars and the shape of the large room sparked a memory as well as the story of Rosie. I think they link to the Royal Children PH just round the corner.

Good to hear from you Robbie. Have to admit, Beeston Cut worst waterway I went on. Don't get me wrong, everyone like me (I was on Wud) but shot at from a bridge, found air gun pellet in the engine cover later. That pub next to the lock was handy though, nipped in and grabbed a bottle of cold beer. Plus on the second trip, the one to Thurmaston, recruited 'slaves' to help with Beeston lock. Left a long rope on keyside. Showing them how to open the bottom gate, boat drifted across. Rope fell in and one bottom gate open. Luckily Wud a little too wide to escape. However it did see me having to clamber down a wet and slipperly gate to get back onboard. Many many years ago, went to the oldest pub, living at Ulceby near Alford. Few good nights in Nottingham.

Hi Robbie. Great video. I enjoyed Nottingham too. I went in that Alchemist place where you have to take a mortgage out for a fancy frothing and steaming activity cocktail. I loved your "history" of the suspension bridge. :) Ain't it a shame how there's loads of possible mooring areas on the Nottingham Canal in the city centre where there's even lots of rings but people just don't. I think there's a lot of fear in large cities. So everyone heads for the relative safety of "Sainsburys moorings". I did go in that service block last year and there was at least toilets if not showers. I was warned by another boater that it was full of broken glass... I didn't see any. I watered up, used the ablutions, washed my hands and left sharpish. Where is thee now? I've left the Macc and am now on the Trent & Misery, heading towards Nantwich.
@RobbieCumming5 жыл бұрын
Ah shame, I’m in Derbyshire 😉 can’t say exactly where on here of course!! Totall agree about not using those moorings too, it’s the same in Brum.

Hey, I have a question. With the 14 day mooring rule, how long are you not allowed to return for? I understand that they want you to actually be continuously cruising, but is there a minimum period of time you cannot return for? I get its potentially around 20 miles minimum for distance but is it 14 days for each place you moor and cannot return for a year? 14 days and cannot return for 6 months? Thanks in advance!
@RobbieCumming5 жыл бұрын
I can only advise to read the following and interpret in your own way! Oh and don’t listen to what other boaters’ say; there are a lot of myths (the 20 miles minimum for example) going around! canalrivertrust.org.uk/refresh/media/thumbnail/633-guidance-for-boaters-without-a-home-mooring.pdf
