For snake clipping through the stage at 3:49, here is my hypothesis on how it works: Many aspects of smash ultimate are calculated after each frame. But certain things like collision detection must be calculated between frames as well, because the distance a character moves from one frame to the next could be greater than the width of a “collider”, i.e. the stage, a platform, or even a Minecraft block. That being said, different types of objects have different collision detection scripts that run with some arbitrary order of operations. So my guess is that the game used the script for Minecraft block collision detection before the script for stage collision detection, and since a collision with the minecraft blocks occurred, the game didn’t even bother checking collision with the stage, and just went with the first collision point it found. So that is why snake seemed to phase right through the stage. This could be interesting to test out.

Collision detection is not run between frames, next to nothing is (the game is processed at 60 loops per second for everything except error correction, I/O, and maybe some graphical effects). You are right that if you only check collision once a frame then you would have things teleport through other things with enough speed, but the normal way to fix that is to check collision across the whole movement vector each frame (it's called continuous collision detection, or CCD, if you want to look it up). That uses up a ton of resources though, so you normally would only check a couple points on that line instead of the whole line. What probably happened was that snake was at the right position, speed, and angle to have the stage stuck between the points where collision was checked, so he teleported through the stage.

Yeah I know “between frames” isn’t the right terminology for it but it was the simplest way I could think to describe it without getting into those details. Although CCD is not perfect, it should still work for larger colliders such as the stage, so I don’t think the CCD “gap” you described would fully explain the bug that occurred.

For the steve under-stage glide, during the up-b startup, tap left/right to aim Steve horizontally and immediately release the control stick to neutral. Then while flying, slowly move the control stick up just BARELY beyond the deadzone, and hold it there. Needs good spacing, v fun

I do that leafshield gimp all the time lol Works on a decent number of the cast. It can be REALLY nasty against Falcon and actually trade with his upb in a weird way. Demolishes Belmonts too. You can sometimes double hit Fox mashing his upb and he falls so fast it's basically a drag down. Lot of other people also just get caught off guard. Fun to do similar things w pellet too. You can do some fucked up mixup with pellet cuz they directional airdodge thinking they're gonna get hard hit and just die. And then, when they get used to that and learn not to tech pellets offstage... you hit em with the strong nair pellet and it stage spikes

Yes. Someone did Its called DVR patches. Works like sigpatches. Goes in the same spot. Thing is you save 30 seconds but it's only for 30FPS so it looks a bit choppy but it exists. I may do a video of all my best clips one gathered over the last year thanks to it
