Today we've got the Summit TX25 and the John Deere 2038R. First we're using a snow pusher to push out some watermelons and pumpkins from our garden. It's a pretty unusual use for a snow pusher, we admit. But it worked great! Then we try out the first attachment we have in from Oregon Tool, a subsoiler. We needed a tractor with a 3-Pt that sits up higher, so we switch to the 2 Series John Deere. Aside from a hydraulic line to our top link coming loose, everything was a success!

Good Works Tractors is happy to be sponsored by Rim Guard Solutions! This is perhaps the most well-known ballast brand on the market today. Rim Guard goes right inside your tires, so it's out of the way, it doesn't freeze, and doesn't corrode. It's made from natural materials, so it's safe around livestock and pets if it spills out. Rim Guard liquid ballast adds more weight to the back side of your tractor improving stability, loader performance, and power to the ground. Find your closest dealer at bit.ly/3d0whX0

Great video nice drone footage, a large pumpkin farm used a large 12" dia. plastic drain pipe for pusher blade. Doesn't damage pumpkins and no dirt build-up, sport stadium's also use same principle for pushing snow as not to damage turf. Once again thanks for these videos

just a thought . You may want to warn a novice tractor owner when using a subsoiler or a deep plow about the possibility of snagging a strong root in which if the operator isn't prepared in the mind and doesn't know how to react immediately that the tractor will come up from the front and topple over backwards on top of them . I have known more than one family that has lost a loved one that way....Michigan

Clever use for the snow pusher, sir! I think you'll have less trouble with water causing washout and erosion if you run your rows across the hill rather than up/down the hill. If the grade is too steep to operate your tractor across the hill, maybe consider angling the rows somewhat. Up/down the hill will cause you water runoff problems for sure. Take care and God Bless.
@GoodWorksTractors
@GoodWorksTractors 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, think I talked about going sidehill too...kind of checkerboard the whole thing.
@theElderberryFarmer
@theElderberryFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
@@GoodWorksTractors I mean that your planting rows should run cross-hill to minimize water runoff and erosion, not the subsoiling. As long as you break through a hardpan layer, the direction of the subsoiling isn't all that important.

SIX INCHES?!? What are you planning to mount it to, a Cat D8 dozer? With a compact or utility tractor, you'd need an active digging cutter like a Ditch Witch or the traditional trenching bucket on a backhoe, this video shows the struggle to pull a 1/2" wide bar at 24" deep: 6" wide is right out. Nonetheless, here's a cool video on a similar build style that, appropriately miniaturized, might be something you could find or fabricobble to efficiently lay low-voltage landscaping wire, shallow, small sprinkler lines, or possibly direct-burial electric lines if your jurisdiction, soil, and tractor can get it deep enough: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6jOon9nmZyZbc0

Question on the subsoiler: It looks like it goes down almost 24" into the soil. Should people be calling 811 if they use this subsoiler (certainly in town)? I know gas lines are no deeper than 18" from my own experience. I had a friend who was trenching in a field and hit a gas main. Didn't call 811 because he believed there was nothing out in the country.

Courtney one of my hoses connected to my hydraulic top link loosened up as well after a few uses. I found that when lifting the 3PH the line was being pushed causing the line's connection to have a twisting force in the loosening direction applied to it. The hose is just a bit too long really. What I did was turn the hose connection into a spot where it did not push the hose connection anymore when lifting the 3PH. Hope this helps my friend!

Unless John Deere has changed/upgraded from the aluminum transmission/differential case on their compact tractors, I would caution anyone about using something like a sub-soiler. This puts a HUGE amount of stress on that area compared to normal operations and I suspect is a great way to find the breaking limits of these tractors. These are compact tractors..........NOT agricultural tractors. More or less a much upgraded lawn/garden tractor. While planting trees, a contractor asked me if I would sub-soil the areas we were planting with my John Deere 4410 compact tractor and I refused. When I told him the transmission/differential case was made of aluminum, he TOTALLY understood my refusal. When I observed how hard sub-soiling was on his John Deere 5205, I immediately knew I made the correct decision. You might get away with doing this in soft, rock free, garden soil but I would be VERY careful.

Two things may help the tractor work better is loading up the bucket full and keep the dif lock engaged on the straight runs. Now I must ask why you didn't take all those beautiful pumpkins and water melons to a non-profit food bank and help people eat AND GET A BIG TAX DEDUCTION 🤔, Even if you had to pay some kids to pick it, I think it would be better than what you did.

Leaving the leftover, rotting vegetables in the garden would've been better for the soil come next spring. Instead of pushing them out of the way why not just run over them and smash them into the dirt?
