Very useful information. I've switched over to using Klasse All In One for polishing ever six months or so. Klasse AIO has no abrasives in it and does have slight filling abilities in micro marring. But man, does that Klasse do an excellent job when used with a machine polisher. SUPER shinny paint! Then I top with Klasse Sealant Glaze in several layers after each layer cures. My car looks like it has a glass shell over the paint. That process works for me, but my paint was corrected last year to a high standard so I just try my best to reduce any wash induced swirling by using good wash techniques. That is really key. Once you do get your paint in top shape. Use good washing techniques and try your best to reduce any wash induced scratches or scratches through wiping your vehicle with microfibers and drying towels. I have had several (and i do mean SEVERAL) instances where I have induced a scratch into my paint through wiping with a very high quality microfiber. I have a 370Z and the paint is super soft so I really have to be careful.

For all my paint correction customers, I always advise them that I will take the least aggressive steps first working towards more aggressive means if it’s needed.

Thanks! Just trying to help elevate the industry by doing videos I'm passionate about and hoping they connect with people and help them ...Jason is so knowledgeable. And Buddo in SLC...They are true believers in elevating the industry too and helped me facilitate the interview with Jason rose, so I'm grateful for a community for sure. They sell a bunch of products and host trainings with Jason rose, renny Doyle etc

I did a ceramic coating on a brand new Mazda CX-5. The average paint thickness was 3 mils, some panels were just 2.5 mils. Thankfully, the owner told the dealership not to touch it and they did not.

I had a Lexus, brand new, and the hood was 2.7 mils. It was crazy. Obviously paint was thin, but some lot boy along the line had obviously compounded it as well

Biggest takeaway fro this vid - a $200 paint gauge is a small investment/insurance against burning thru clear and shelling out huge dough later - and damaging your business reputation.

I've thought about doing live streams...but even simple videos like this one that I shot and edited take me like 20 hours to edit 😬😬😬 I don't complain about it...I'm not a victim lol...but I would need to compromise somewhere along the way to pump out more content..with that said, I'll probably fire off some quicker vids from my SEMA trip. But with Jason, I drove an hour, took 2 or 3 hours from day to film him and convince him to sit down for an interview haha...then hour drive home...log interviews...shoot stand ups...again not complaining but it takes a lot more time to put together for me

I can see "paint history" becoming just as important as a service history in the value of cars. Very hard for the average buyer of a 2nd hand car to tell if it's been previously coated and how "deeply" prepared. With ceramics becoming as popular a white teeth for the thing to have done, they too have to be maintained; or if that history is not known then 2 or 5 years having to re-apply, or perhaps 2 coatings and your clears done will impact values. Just wish manufacturers [with a waver] could do extra clear as a cost option or develop an "infused" clearcoat from the start. Yep that may hurt installers, but still has to be maintained. At the end of the day with coats going thinner each year, that too may be a nail. 3D may have come up with clearcoats epitaph, it may well be one detail and it's done. Sad as it may seem, swirls, as much as they bugg us, may be here to stay. Only possible advancements for the future would be colour infused plastic / composite panels rather than painted, which could be polished / detailed.

And given all that we know and don't know about a paint's history...Jason's advice about the paint gauge just makes sense. Thanks for your thoughts man! And for watching 👍

@@HawkProDetailing Having said all of my above I do have a sense of humour [got to in this current screwy world], so what does the future hold? Clearcoats dead, the PPF wars will commence - sticks better, doesn't yellow, doesn’t snag. Detailers will morph into wrappers due to clearcoats demise. Glazes / fillers will try to re-invent themselves. If you think of “Demolition Man”, we’ll all be signing on Lenina Huxley style into generic composite electric self-driving domes listening to oldie detailing ads, because everything else we used to enjoy has been deemed illegal, with the non-car people spouting joy-joy lectures at us. If you wash it you’ll be fined five credits, leave it dirty and spend the five in the Rupes museum. By that time, I’ll happily be 6 feet under polishing the inside of my wooden lid with a wool pad and heavy cut!

No drama in painter land? Lol detailer drama is a thing, although I hear vinyl guys have egos too...and I imagine there are a lot of niche trades that have similar feelings of "what I do is the most important thing in the world and I'm the best ever lol "
