Man for someone struggling with issues upstairs this hits so close to home. That tortured singing is like mana for my soul

Me too man I've been in a really dark place the last month or so. Feel like I'm trapped in my head with these relentless negative thoughts and I'm constantly depressed and tearing myself apart. Music does seem to offer some sense of relief but I really don't know how much longer I can endure this

Diceysnowball. I urge you to get professional help. See a psychiatrist and have them hook you up with a therapist. It has changed my life. You don't need to suffer

Hope you're feeling better. You'll hear people say this from time to time again. But I was in the same place... Please, trust me. That's what I struggled to do, was believe that other people were feeling what I had been feeling... Are you really trapped in your hear or are you struggling to process what that actually means? If we all thought the same, nothing would be interesting. Face to face communication is the ticket to healing. What if it's a gift, friend? Depression is the body tell an individual that it needs some deep rest for the loss of the ego that its once been so connected to. It's an evolution, a metamorphosis. Just keep looking for answers, you will find them. Sometimes the only place to find them is within yourself. You've got this brother. Everyone thinks different, if we all thought the same this world wouldn't be as funas it is... What saved me was combating my anxiety and it's physical symptoms and the depression that came along with it by asking "What if it's a gift?" It literally helps your mind process alternatives - breaking the negative thought patterns. The mind takes the easiest route and when you're trapped into negative patterns it will continue to cycle them, as if falling into a bad habit. Taking a step back and evaluating is okay... Keep pushing on.

It's about someone Maynard knows who's brother is an addict, and their struggle dealing with their brother's self destructive behavior.

It's not about addiction to substances only. This song is about his time in the military as an "outsider" and how he felt towards his fellow soldiers. It's obvious really if your not a 12 year old.

Memento Catharsis From What I’ve gathered it’s about the point of view of a non-addict talking down to an addict
@meditationwithtyler4 жыл бұрын
@@isaacalmquist655 I've always seen it this way, but I also like to see it as self questioning and criticism, as in "You fucking drama queen, you fucking narcissist, why the fuck do I keep doing this... They were all right about you, you fucking loser"

Maynard clarified that the song's message was meant to be a criticism of people who do not understand the struggles of people dealing with depression, saying: "[In] the case of "The Outsider", it's sung from the perspective of a person who doesn't understand at all what their friend is going through, what their loved one is going through, and they think that it's more like a sprained ankle; they can just kind of walk it off."

i've also heard tell it's written from the perspective of someone who has no idea how to approach the mental health issues of someone close to them. thats the beauty of music, it could be all these things and more.
