The power of the drum in hands of skilled musicians, is undeniably a force that inspires the spirit within. Rhythm is paramount in all aspects of life, especially music and dance, and the performance here was spectacular, while the synchronisation is just, simply amazing.

I’m sorry. I am not impressed, knowing that if this goes back 400 years ago, the credit should go to the Koreans. Why, one might ask. About 400 years ago, during the Imjin War, or Pottery War, the japanese kidnapped 50,000-200,000 Korean doctors, blacksmiths, artisans, architects, farmers, pottery makers, MUSICIANS, and the japanese forced the Koreans to teach their skills to the japanese. Soon after, japan experienced political stability and growth in the arts and economy. Before the so-called “golden age of japan,” there was the true Golden Age of Korea.

every year we have a Japanese lantern festival here in the Summer, and Every year Mu Daiko performs. I'm brought to tears every time. the passion of the drummers comes over you without warning and it's an amazing, truly spiritual experience I am lucky to enjoy once every year. this group in this video is much larger and I'd die happy if I ever get to see them live. to anyone reading this: if you ever have the opportunity to witness a taiko drum performance, take it - do not miss out. your soul will be completely lit up by the event and we should all be so lucky to have something like that happen in our lives. if you're near the Twin Cities in Minnesota, join me this summer (August) at Como park in saint Paul and partake in the experience. :)
