My go to ale has always been old speckled hen . There's lots of good ales still around in the UK . What a very interesting story, such a shame though that you never got to know the contents of the letter. That would drive nuts not knowing. I'm always gripped by your stories,they never fail to entertain. God bless you brother.

Cool bit of family history. My grandparents escaped Russian controlled Lithuania just before WW2. My grand father ended up in the German Army and fought on the eastern front. Walked 600 miles to surrender to the Americans. After the War ended he entered service in the American Army where he reached the rank of Master Sergeant. His family along with my father lived in refugee camps until they immigrated to Canada. The rest of the family moved to the US, but my grandmother refused to live there. There was possibility she was sexually assaulted by American service men while living as refugee. Those camps were all my Dad knew till he was thirteen. I had Mennonite grand parents that fled Russia with the entire family and were hunted by the KGB and had to kill one of them with a pistol. I also had grand parents on my mother side that fought for Canada and were killed. But the craziest stories come from my European grand parents. I love hearing about this stuff, thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Good morning Mike. I'm sorry you didn't get the letter copied first. I have been searching my geniology for quite some time now. I have hit some dead ends and it is very frustrating. I always believed that you don't know who you are until you know where you came from. I have very little information on my paternal grandmothers family. I know her parents came from Bavaria and that her father was a brewer at the Christian Moerlein brewing company but that is all that I have. I never met my grandmother so I was not able to get any information from her. Now my maternal grandmother gave me reams of information about her family. Keep digging Mike. Cheers Ron

Mike. How did you name your pub? Favorite childhood book? Dart board? How?
@oldmanthingspipes4 ай бұрын
I actually did a video about how I came up with the name. There’s a lot of detail but my family were cockneys and frog and toad is road and my old uncle will was saying it once and I found a pub sign a few days later in London called the frog and toad and bought it because of that. Thanks for asking
