to be fair boeing is the big name manufacturer, if anyone is going to find an error first it would be them, many of the issues theyve had fall under the "no one ever thought to think this was possible" category and then they and everyone else fixed the issue to prevent it happening again, the rest of the accidents were either operator error or something conditional/maintenance related that wasn't the fault of the plane
@nickolaswilcox4254 жыл бұрын
@@js1465s statistics still say flying is safer than driving and for those sensors, but yeah that was a screwup but malfunctions like that are rare and they do try to be as far ahead as they can, flaws will surface when new technologies and designs are put into service, if anything the fact that these flaws usually only show up after years of wide useage points to an otherwise solid design. fortunately or unfortunately, airline accidents get a hell of a lot more attention than similar accidents with ground based equipment (and they have a much smaller margin of error) so people will never fully trust them. in short your not wrong in being skeptical, but i personally feel safe with the odds

Narrator: "Some of the most unlucky passengers ever to fly..." You mean other than the thousands who actually died in a plane crash, right?
@Fightre_Flighte4 жыл бұрын
No. Because those people at least got to end their suffering, whereas all these people watched someone die, went through hypoxia (euphoria is a big symptom, hence the hopefulness), got to be able to lean over and look at the looming ground through what should have been a wall (yknow, if they don't mind their face getting torn off by retreating metal, and flapping wires), and have to now live with the memories as they suffer their (perspectively) boring lives. Understanding that, probably, this incident was the most interesting part of their lives, and they, most likely, don't even want the memory anyways. That being said, each and every one of them always has the most awesome story to tell: "Oh, you think THAT'S badass? I took a flight once, and the fricken roof ripped off mid-flighte, and I somehow lived."

Theres a whole 20 minute documentary somewhere on youtube, they stated the reason the roof came off was because of small cracks. A passenger noticed this before they got on but didn’t think much of it. The reason nobody noticed it was because for most of the inspections they did them at night so the engineers were tired and wouldn’t really notice those cracks.

Normally I really like your videos and they’re surprisingly accurate, and I didn’t see any false information here, but there is a lot of info missing as well. For example, the 737 in question had tear strips to prevent exactly this from happening. Tear strips line the fuselage of the plane in 1ftX1ft squares, and the idea is that if a tear happens, it’ll stop at the tear strip, which would have left the plane with a 1 square foot hole. Not nearly as bad as the planes roof coming off. However, the flight attendant that died was standing exactly under where the tear strip tore off, so it sucked her up into the roof and she acted like a plug and stopper. The pressure trying to escape cause the successive failures of more tear strips which tore off the chunk of the roof. Fortunately, the tear strips held together after several rows, which is why the planes entire roof didn’t come off, and just the one section did. There was a Smithsonian Channel Air Disasters episode about this accident that’s a lot more thorough than I can be, so I highly recommend it.

There is one MAJOR error in this video. The NTSB does not EVER blame anyone. "The NTSB is charged by congress to investigate transportation accidents, determine probable cause and make recomendations on how to prevent it from happening again" what they recite at the beginning of every board meeting. NTSB reports exist to make the transportion industries safer not point blame. In fact they are often banned from the court room unless the reports are the only source of evidence the vicitms have. And in which case the evidence can be used but the analysis can not be. The NTSB makes conclusions but does not blame anyone.
@olifitzgerald3 жыл бұрын
Was about to come down here to day this. Although it WAS the fault of the airline, working that out is not really the job of the NTSB or any similar board. It's more important that something like this is never allowed to happen again.
