So in this video we'll go over why you need an advance scanner in order to be able to fix modern cars. I will be doing a review of a professional grade scanner I bought recently, this scanner is capable of reading live data PIDS, Scanning different control modules like the PCM, TCM, SRS, ABS, PATS, HVAC, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, and many more, it also is capable of bi directional or active controls, it can read codes from the modules it scans, it can also program Electronically Controlled Throttle Bodies, ECU's and TCM's and much more. If you have compatibility questions ask the seller through the link bellow.

Thanks mate! I've been circling the idea of purchasing the Autel Maxidas ds808. I know its pretty PCM capable but not too sure how TCM, BCM, and all the other modules capable. Everyone and their grandma makes a code reader that you can see live data on and so many people think thats all you need. Well what happens when your driver seat wont move backwards because there's a BCM control issue.

There's also the OpenXC project for those who prefer DIY CAN bus analyzers. You won't have access to vendor data with a DIY rig, but the proprietary systems don't provide much of that either unless you're an authorized dealership.

Nice run down on the machine. Too bad they couldn't send you one for your use and review. You have a deserving channel. Congratulations on the purchase. That's a big decision but despite some design limitations, (according to Eric at SMA and Paul at scannerdanner) a lot of professionals use this unit. Good luck with it and let us know how you like it after some use.

There are flaws in every tool, in ways this is better than the $10,000 snap on, like coverage for programming control units, re'learns and key programming. and ways its inferior like the scope/multimeter/graphing capabilities. but at fraction of the cost of that thing. This is a fantastic choice, especially as a first scanner.

I'll be honest, I'm really a Snap-On guy, BUT, I have been hearing a few really good things about the Autel Scanners. And, they actually help those of us who love Snap-On, because of how low priced they are, and the fact they have been developing more and more capabilities, they are pushing Snap-On and other major brands to bring their prices down or they will get to a point that almost no one will buy their scan tools when something with similar abilities is so low priced.

Great channel & keep up the good work. I purchased this scanner about 2 years ago. Great tool but can ne wonky. It dosnt re calibrate the air suspension on the S430 / S500 MB like it should "tried on several MB" or program keys for the 99-04 Discovery but surprisingly does as advertised for the most part for the $ spent. Mine has already paid for itself many X over.

These are fun to hack. It's easy to mess with the boot sequence as it's using standard Window CE 5.0, which has also passed Microsoft's security death date. Internally, there are several com ports which you can tap with a TTL-to-USB cable and monitor console and add functionality. Ultimately, the software is the real key...one can easily reproduce the hardware using off-the-shelf Raspberry Pi hardware and use the Autel adapter kit. Edit: This hardware design is based on a Samsung platform which is well documented. One can also override the USB controller chip easily. They really didn't do much to lock this down and are selling these as a legacy design now that they have the more expensive MaxiSys out....and that's just a tablet running Android, their speciality software, and using USB devices.
@111kipp

Where exactly would you find this software? The price is alittle high and was wondering if I could use one of my raspberry pi's to make myself a scanner.
@jeffsheldon
@jeffsheldon 7 жыл бұрын
@Jonathan: Finding software is the trick. Last I checked, there isn't an open source effort to make a diagnostics software suite. There are efforts at making hacking tools and software exists for diagnostics PIDs (OBD-II), but they're limited. I think a real key is for something to talk OEM vehicle-specific, provide an assortment of data specific to ECUs, and then marry that data to some sort of open field/repair manuals. That would get enough traction to become a serious effort. Diagnostics companies are making huge money off subscriptions and that could really upset the mom & pop shop sales demographic.

以蔵岡田: Same here. I've been looking for one with a cracked screen, burned, etc. Anything where the data can be surgically pulled. Hard to come by.

I hated mine. I thought i was getting a great deal because of how cheap they are. Mine quit working on me 3 times in the first 10 months i owned it. They did send brand new units each time but it took 2-3 weeks to get it which hurt since i'm a professional mechanic and need it daily. I also spent $900 on a update and got it back where they had removed half the software and i paid for the down grade. I was so pissed. The reason they removed so much software is because their getting their ass sued off for pirating software by several OEMS like Ford. You can tell its cheaply made when your holding it. It had so many holes in its software too which pissed me off. It said it could do certain tests and even list them but when you try to actually do them.....NOTHING. The wi-fi is a absolute joke. You can't go on-line with it to do anything other than download updates which take all day to do. Just a joke. Plus their customer service???? Which i used all the time with all the problems i had with it. Whats up? Come on can you hire anyone that speaks English?? And once i found out it was a Chinese based company stealing American patented products like every other damn company in China WELL...... %$#@ OFF!! Their new Autel model from what i hear ain't any better and i've heard their programmer has a very good chance of locking up any computer you want to program. I watched a fellow tech use the add on scope you can get for the new model. Being a scope junkie I have a very low opinion of the scope as well. Not worth getting at all. The scanner part is about the worst graphing scanner i've ever seen and the additional add on scope module is laughable. Don't waste your money on that as a $154.00 uscope would run circles around it. There's a lot of scanners and scopes out there to choose from don't waste your money on this Chinese piece of shit that pirates everyone's patented tools and breaks American and international laws at the expense of American companies and their employees.

Thanks for your input. I'm a retired mechanic who needs more than just a hobbyist tool. I want the more advanced graphing and multi system scanning available to work on my own cars. Unfortunately, I have very little experience with obd2 since I haven't worked on them enough to get familiar with. I understand the theory and functionality, but can't settle on a scope or scan tool that's thorough and affordable. It appears this scanner doesn't fit the bill either.

I have had an MS906 for about 2 years and that thing is awesome! No hardware issues at all. Purchased mine through NAPA when they had a sale. A few mechanics I work with swear by it. It's not a perfect tool but it is very powerful. You just gotta learn to deal with its shortcomings. That's why lots' of mechanics suggest you have more than one scan tool. 1) some bi directional controls don't work. 2) auto decode vin doesn't always work. - sometimes you gotta manually select the vehicle to get it to recognize different systems.

I hope you respond please. I've tried two different cheaper scan tools that SAID it could but turned up they couldn't. Big hassle. Does this scan tool read CURRENT misfire live data? It would help too if it reads HISTORICAL misfire data also but CURRENT would be the biggest help! I have a 2002 Nissan that bumps at idle only (at least that I can feel) and only with a/c on. I've replaced the rear bank of coils and all plugs. I need to watch at idle which cylinder is intermittently misfiring so I can replace only that coil. Fords and Nissans are bad about when one coil fails, the others are not long behind but, I only replaced the rear bank coils because during the spark plug change, I found cylinder 5 had oil on the plug boot. I changed the valve cover assembly (gasket isn't seperate) and only the rear bank coils. I figured if one of the front coils goes out, its easy to replace those one by one. The coils cost upwards of 65 bucks apiece (my cost-ngk) but if I only need one, I only want to buy one. Desperately need current misfire or historical to help me figure this one out. If this scan tool does it, I'll get it! Please answer.

Wow, bidirectional control for less than $1000. I've seen remarks from people who aren't so happy (on other Autel models) with their inability to replace the battery, slow boot up, and the expectation of a short life span because of eclipsing technology and lack of support for old models. But Autel seems to be a leader in the price category, and all scanners require frequent updates with subscription fees on top. No wonder mechanics everywhere have a love hate relationship with generic scan tools.

Autel charges a lot for their lower level models that don't do squat. I just bought a DS808 Pro and it's going back because it dies not have any bi-directional capability - none. I wanted only to bleed my ABS. They have cheaper units that will do it, but somehow they think this unit is worth way more than one with bi-directional capabilities. Their pricing scheme just does make sense to me.

have you heard about Actron U-scan? after getting all in-app add-ons purchases and spending $99+ 35 + 17 for a total of $153 it seams to work the same way yours work. All I have to do is pair it using Bluetooth to my smart phone!
