When I bought my '22 Corolla hatchback, I asked the dealer to enable the all windows down with key fob feature. He said nobody had ever asked for that, but he did it for free. However, he wouldn't disable the seatbelt chime because he said it was a safety issue. So I bought an OBDII ELM327 Bluetooth dongle & signed up for a 7-day free trial of Carista. I made all the changes I wanted & canceled before the free trial expired.

I have a second set of rims for my 2017 Avalon Limited with non-cloned TPMS sensors, so I need to be able to change ID's with summer and winter tire changeovers. For a number of years now I have successfully used the ATEQ Quickset TPMS ID tool for tire changeovers on my 2009 Accord and 2010 Corolla. The Quickset says that it also covers my 2017 Avalon, but it does not work for me, and repeated conversations with ATEQ customer service was unable to resolve. My Foxwell Elite 510 scan tool with Toyota software was also supposed to support TPMS ID registration, but it does not have that function for my 2017 Avalon. I found the Carista tool and have been using that (paying the monthly fee when I do a tire rim swap) and it does work perfectly for TPMS IDs. I am hoping eventually that Foxwell or ATEQ will resolve the TPMS ID issues for my Avalon, but until then, I have a reliable way to do it with the Carista dongle and app.

I signed up for their beta on my brand and vehicle. Well over a year later they sent me an email that they were raising the annual subscription prices, but that I could keep the old pricing if I subscribed to their annual plan. I didn’t because they never delivered on the advanced features for my vehicle in their program. After they raised the annual subscription prices they also released the advanced features for my vehicle and I lost out on their old pricing model. To date it sits on my desk as a reminder never to purchase crap again.

Tom B, What model do you have? I have a 2021 Limited AWD and it doesn’t have the start-stop. If it did, then I would have bought something else.
@timothymroberts29492 жыл бұрын
The auto start/stop feature on select Toyota vehicles is an innovative feature that lets you run more efficiently. It works by stopping your engine while your vehicle is stopped, and it starts things up when you're ready to hit the gas. It's effective at reducing waste related to engine idling, and many drivers enjoy its benefits. In the situation where you don't want auto start/stop to be active, disabling the system is simple. To the left of your steering wheel, you'll see an "Off" button. Simply press that button at any point after you've turned on the engine to disable the auto start/stop feature. This will let you keep your engine on, even during long red lights. You may want it to stay on so that you can maintain a cool climate by constantly running the air conditioner, or you may want your engine to continue to run because you need the power to haul a trailer. Once you've pushed the "Off" button, the system will remain off for the duration of the ignition cycle. At any point, you can reactive it by pressing the button again. When you restart your vehicle, everything will go back to the default setting in which the auto start/stop feature is active. Note that there are certain conditions in which the auto start/stop feature will not engage. This includes when you've set your air conditioner to MAX, you're on a very steep include, you've selected power or snow mode, your steering wheel is turned away from center, your battery only has a low charge, you're in stop-and-go traffic, or your fluids are at high temperatures.

@@TheCarCareNut This is also a possibility for a future video - key programming and the many gotchas in that. I bought a second fob for our used 2010 Prius from an online source I had used with no problems, but the fob would not program. The second dealer mentioned it may have been programmed to another car before; they apparently are single use fobs. In the end I bought a fob at the dealer, which included programming. At least it worked and was not much more than the online source plus local programming.
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
@flagmichael that is the million dollar question and one that embarrassingly an alarming number of dealership get wrong. No Toyota smart key is single use. When you program the key to a car, the car ID gets written on the key for security. However if you do a smart code reset or also called reseeding the immobilizer with the key in proximity of the car, it will actually rewrite the car ID in the key. The smart code reset is what’s used when you lose all keys. This cannot be done without an active techstream from the dealership or through Toyota because it leaves a paperwork trail to prevent theft. But there’s another catch. Some dealerships charge more to reset the smart code than what it costs to buy and program a new key.. go figure

Good day AMD! I have bought this scanner from your Amazon store. It did most of changes I wanted to make to my 2021 Rav4 Limited. But there is one thing that drives us(my family) crazy! And I hope that you can lead me in the right direction. Every time any door is closed with engine running and smart key is outside the car it beeps 8 times. So when we bring our daughter to school I step out of the car, close my drivers door - it beeps 8 times, I open the rear drivers side door to get her backpack, close the door - it beeps 8 times, my wife leaves the vehicle briefly to get our child out, she closes the passengers door - it beeps 8 times, she closes the passengers side back door after getting our child out - it beeps 8 times. I think you got by this point what am I after! Is there any way how to stop that beeping? Thanks!

Hi! Unfortunately that one is super annoying and has no solution other than leaving the key in the car.

@The Car Care Nut will turning off the seat occupied alarm also turn off the airbag? Also, saw the headlight on DING option. mine has the auto off and I run my lights day and night. Sold.
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Turning off the seat belt warning does not turn off the air bag. You can do the same for the drivers seat and rear seats for models equipped.

Thank you for this recommendation. I think I will get it in the future. I wish I knew about this before I recently bought a newer bluetooth OBDII adaptor. What is your opinion on the TORQUE app if you have not mentioned it in a video yet.

Clever device. I did not see any audio options. We are not interested in using Entune so have never created an account. Each time we turn on the car (2020 Corolla) get a firmware update nag screen. The screen cannot be permanently disabled so we have to do it each time we start the car. I find it annoying to spend thousands of dollars for a car and have to deal with advertising.
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Is the screen that comes up is asking for an update?
@tomschmidt3813 жыл бұрын
@@TheCarCareNut Correct, says need Entune to update. There are a couple of options but none to dismiss it permanently.

I would open the app create the account which is free then download the update and install it then delete the app. Unfortunately that’s the only way
@tomschmidt3813 жыл бұрын
@@TheCarCareNut Thanks for researching this. Unfortunately both our phones (Moto E) are low on system memory so we cannot install new apps. That is annoying because the MicroSD card has lots of room but most stuff cannot be moved to it. So fixing they annoying Toyota feature will need to wait until we replace the phones.

Can you program 2 sets of TPMS sensors in a 2022 Lexus UX250H? I have 2 sets of rims winter and all season both with original Lexus sensors.

Hi again . Will the customization settings void my 2021 warranty? I mean, removing some dings, alerts or changing windows settings… seatbelt alerts… will this type of modification void my Toyota warranty? If I take it for the “free” oil changes during the warranty period
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It won’t void your warranty as these are customizations allowed by Toyota

Ugh. I was already to buy it for mr 17 Tundra. But it doesn’t support tpms on tundra. :/

Hello Sir, your videos are very informative. I am planning to purchase Carista after watching this video. My concern is, will it detect the problem on my Toyota Prius V 2013 ( 190,000 miles) that throws overheat sign comes on for few seconds and goes off, after 15 to 20 minutes of driving. To be more precise, ( I think) , the overheat sign stays on during the period when thermostat opens and coolant circulates gushing into the reservoir tank. I recently changed Thermostat ( aftermarket thermostat) and got the coolant flushed at the dealer so that it shouldn't have any air in the cooling system. Could it be that Coolant Temperature sensor is misreading the temperature. I really appreciate your reply. Thank you.
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Carista can’t view live data which you might need to access to see what’s going on with your Prius. If there are not trouble codes you will need to see what’s happening with the coolant temp reading when the light comes on
@kumara54923 жыл бұрын
@@TheCarCareNut Can you please recommend any other scan tool that reads live data so that I can know if the overheat sign is due to faulty coolant temperature sensor or aftermarket thermostat or blown head gasket in it's initial stage assuming there's no air in the coolant system after driving in this condition for six months ( system might have self burped the air from the coolant system).

AMD I’m getting a tuneup on my 2014 Toyota Prius so I’m bringing my own spark plugs purchased from the dealership so I was told I also needed to replace the boot/coil to complete a tuneup DOES that sound right? PLZ help

Hi Michelle. If the boot is not missing from the coils I wouldn’t replace them. Just the spark plugs and call it a day. How much are they charging for the boot replacement?

Take a look at his maintenance video about spark plugs. The boot under the ignition coil seals out moisture and dirt, and it is not a maintenance item unless damaged; the ignition coils are only replaced if malfunctioning. Replacing the spark plugs on the Generation-3 Prius is not difficult, but the "cowl" must be removed, as noted in the spark plug video, which takes a little time.

Hello my friend! I have a very specific question that could help a lot of Toyota/Lexus owners, and I’m willing to pay you just to confirm it can be done. But it has to be with Techstream dealer level. Not TechStream lite. 2015-2018 Lexus owners(Toyota too I’m sure) just had Enform services shut down in October. I didn’t care about being able to remote start from the stupid smartphone app…but I did from my remote key fob. Even to remote start from the key fob, you had to subscribe to Enform. It is now shut down. What I need to know specifically, can TechStream re-enable remote start with my key fob. I wouldn’t have this problem if I kept my Enform subscription till the end of October, but my credit card expired and forgot to update it. My wife kept it till they shut down Enform services, and she can still remote start with her key fob. It was basically left enabled. I believe dealer level Techstream can re-enable this in my 2016 RX450h. Is there anyway you can look in to this? I will be happy to donate for your time

Thanks for the video! Could you please make a video on how to choose the right bulbs/LEDs for Toyota. I want to replace the fog lights and turn signals with LEDs in my 2020 Rav4 hybrid. Could you please discuss this topic? What to look at, how to choose, how to install correctly and not damage the electronics? In particular, the question is, is it possible to put daytime lights from the RAV4 prime on the Rav4 hybrid? Thank you very much!
