Lee, you do beautiful work! I'm putting some of your tools on a wish list for sure! I'm just about to get started with spoons. My 16 year old son is a woodworker. He and I will be taking a spoon class together in a few weeks, I can't wait! In the meantime, I'm researching tools to death! Is that green wood that you are carving with that scorp or is it a seasoned dry wood? It's cutting beautifully! I look forward to more videos!

Hi Karen, thanks for the kind comments I hope you and your son enjoy your journey into spoon carving. The Cherry I'm carving in the video is still fairly green but not freshly cut, it had been cut a couple of months before I got around to using it but it still carved very nicely.

lovely spoon scorpion, that handle looks ace, I am struggling to use even mora spoon knife with there large handles after using them for years , after 18 years of being a joiner I had to give up due to having carpull tunnel syndrome in both hands, so was looking for a answer, looks like I found it😄cheers craig

+Craig Twiner Hi Craig, thanks for the comment, I can sympathise with you on the CTS front, had a touch of it myself last year, very debilitating. I hope you can get back into it your carving at some point.

+Lee Stoffer am trying too at the moment, my hands are knackered now so carving takes forever but better tortoise than nothing at all, how did you get through cpt, I can't have op as managed to break back in 4 places soon after giving up joinery, had become a support worker as well so can't work at all now, after 4 years am now on walking sticks so need hands even in knackered state, I have now started at a eco-therepy project in ancient woods near where I live on notts/lincs border so hopefully get there in the end, cheers for your videos, at times watching KZbin bushcraft/greenwood/woodland crafts has been my only saviour, craig

+Craig Twiner Wow, sounds like you've had it really rough, sorry to hear that! Glad to have been of some comfort to you while you were laid up. Coincidentally the reason I'm sat at the computer now is because my back is bad after processing some firewood yesterday (the first proper physical exercise I've managed for about month after a bout of pneumonia!) My CTS was a short term acute case that I got over with rest luckily, took about six weeks to get back to carving and a few months before I was back to normal but I know folks who have chronic cases and suffer for months at a time. I've heard mixed views on the success of the op too, some people I know wear wrist supports at night that apparently help quite a bit to ease the symptoms. Make sure you take regular breaks while carving and maybe try a few light stretching exercises but best to get advice from your doctor on that really. I hope spending time in the woods helps you recover or at least feel better in yourself, I find woodland a very relaxing and peaceful place to spend time and enjoy nature. Thanks for watching, hopefully I'll get some more videos posted soon, take care, Lee

In response to goldsmithexile, it's all relative. Though his opinion is respected, I can't agree. Some may spend their hard-earned money on whatever one likes or whatever one views as a good deal. Personally, I've signed up for Lee's email newsletters purely to have a CHANCE at buying one of these tools as soon as more are available. They are finely crafted by hand and not mass-produced at some factory. They're versatile and can be used for hogging out wood-as in this video or for making fine, finishing cuts. It's also worth it to me to carry this than one or two (or more) Mora's that do the same thing.

Nicholas Jonas thanks for the response, like many many others you clearly understand the difference between the various tools and price points that make up the current market. Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion and I understand how some folk might see it as an expensive tool but personally I feel it represents excellent value for money given the time invested to achieve the quality I demand, sadly I can't say the same for some of the copy cat examples creeping onto the market these days so buyer beware folks!

I'd struggle to justify £135 for this tool, fancy as it is......you can get a top set of haida blades off of lee valley for about that amount, or pay that for a svante or nearly a karlson's adze, or get a top set of adze blades off kestrel tools. Or 3 or 4 knives off of the Davis brothers....Sorry Lee, dont want to sound negative, but its overpriced for what it does, in my view.
