Nelson Villegas Actually, Tolkien was creating what was to become the middle earth universe before Conan was introduced by Howard.

Actually no, not really. 1937 for The Hobbit. Conan was 1932. Before Conan was Soloman Kane and before that was Kull, around 1927-1930. Robert E. Howard pretty much started Sword and Sorcery.

Dark Horse Conan really made every single story come to live for me and find things I missed. They made me go back and reread the stories. Great comics. I highly recommend anyone to read them and give praise for the work Dark Horse put into them.

Those Barbaric pictures are not demographical. Because they're only just showing muscular male and female forms of the human body. The stories about it are even better.

That last statement was right on it. We all want to be like Conan or Red Sonja. seeing them stirs the part of us that longs to be out there and experience those adventures for oursleves. The part that wishes the world outside is like the world they live in, simpler in a lot of ways, mysterious and complex in others. A world where one person can make a difference without caring too much about how he or she is perceived by others. I personally may have a hard time living in a wolrd like that , but i would relish every moment that i can.....and then die because of some unnamed terror gobbling me up or some savages chopping me to pieces lol

Netflix has been doing great lately, with their original series. My personal favourite is daredevil. And i would've LOVED to see netflix make a Conan original series based on the comics. I'm imagining something like a cross between spartacus and 300 style, with real human characters. I want this, real bad. Anyone else agree? Feel free to share some ideas.

Thank you, cousin! I agree 100%!

Agreed on HBO picking it up and doing the original source material justice without any censorship. I would prefer they stick to the REH stories themselves than other interpretations, it's so overdue. The stories were not written in chronological order as set in Conan's life, they meandered and did not follow any particular structure.
@RiskBreakerY7 жыл бұрын
Mordante69 I see what you mean, for that medium it could possibly make sense for a wider audience. But part of the stories' charm is that by starting out with King Conan you can't help but wonder how he got there. And the rest of the stories fill those gaps more or less while fleshing out his character at different stages of his life. I mean there's A LOT they could do and I wouldn't begrudge them if they did their own take as long as they are largely inspired by the source material.

@Jelsick6 жыл бұрын
robert lalonde Agreed I have read all of the original Conan books, and they fail to capture what is the essence of who he is in literary form. Quick to anger, yet just as quick to laughter. A glowering barbarian, who slays anyone who gets in his way, yet possessing a crude code of honor. The first Conan movie came close, but the rest are miserable failures. A Peter Jackson type of interpretation would be an interesting movie to see. Perhaps this would give the character that Robert E Howard created true justice.
@robl16166 жыл бұрын
one main point i think is missing is the uncultered savage aspect, he reacts without thinking, totally unpredictable...he has not been civilized so does not follow any civilized rule of conduct, i see it as a very zen like quality in a savage setting...very fast witted but without our mental and emotional constraints, he was not politically correct or even moral by our standards, not the hero role model they turned him into.
@MisterMoreno104576 жыл бұрын
Nah my friend, Arnold gave Conan life! Nobody cares bout the books. Comics, eh to an extent. Arnold's version of Conan is genius!.
@Stargaze796 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! And now I'm afraid they might make yet another film exploiting the character without understanding him, only to collect on easy cash! Conan must be brought to the screen by someone with passion and understanding for his character and his world. I personally, would like to do it. But live action is out of question. I see it more along the lines of Frank Frazetta and Ken Kelly artwork in motion.
@joncarroll20402 жыл бұрын
The comics do as good a job as possible of adapting Howard's stories into a visual format. The problem with the comics, the movies, TV shows etc is when they move away from Howard's stories.
