When I firs saw Cabaret, I hated it. I think it made me uncomfortable in my little cocoon of a perfect life. But every time since that I watch it, I am more in awe. What an incredible movie, and what a performance by Liza Minnelli. You must watch the fullmovie. So many great songs, and interesting take on this period of Naziism.

Lisa won a well deserved Oscar for the movie Cabaret, which is where this clip is from 😊 ♥. 'MAYBE THIS TIME' is my favourite track from the movie but Mum's favourite song was CABARET, which you just watched 😊. Mum left instructions for this song to be sung at her funeral, in church. Sadly it was deemed to be unsuitable for church, but not by me. I don't think God would've been offended and it still makes me sad Mum didn't get her wish 😔. I'm pretty sure Mum didn't realize the song's about a call girl though, she felt it was a song celebrating why we should all enjoy life whilst we have it, and I can identify with that. Go Liza and Go Mum 🎉 ☺ ♥.

liza was one of Freddy Mercury's biggest influences. He adored her, and considered her performance in CABARET the film to be one of his biggest inspirations. He loved everything about her-her voice, her theatricality, her outrageousness, he also loved that even though she wasn't beautiful by conventional standards, she had a style and a flair and knew how to make herself someone that (as amber said in this very video) you couldn't take your eyes off! Freddy was inspired by Liza in how he presented himself as a star. He considered himself odd looking, but knew that he had something inside that could transcend what he felt were limitations about his looks. Montserrat Caballe, the opera singer who he did the "Barcelona" duet with, another opera singer, Maria Callas, and Liza were Freddy's big inspirations. you should watch CABARET on your movie channel. a brilliant film.

This was a scene from the movie Cabaret, and this scene took place in a cabaret (it’s like a night club where people went for food, drink, and entertainment). Jay you were spot on when you got the crooner vibe. In the final few years of the Rat Pack group, Liza was a member. They played Vegas often. Liza’s version of New York New York, rivals Sinatra’s version. Please check it out. Now regarding Judy Garland, I don’t believe you have delved into that rabbit whole. She along with Barbra Streisand are still considered two of the greatest singers of all time. Judy had her own TV show back in the 60’s. Two suggestions: The Man that Got Away, from A Star is Born (the first remake), and her tribute to Kennedy after his assassination, Battle Hymn of the Republic. It’ll bring you to tears.

There was a Freddie Mercury tribute concert held in 1992, one year after his death, and she appeared there and sang We Are The Champions, and she did a great job. Cabaret is an incredible Broadway musical and film. It traces the fall of Berlin to the Nazi's just prior to WWII. It is wonderful and so so tragic. You should for sure do a movie reaction for this one because trust me, if you've just seen this song then you are NOT prepared for what the overall story is about. Makes it even more bittersweet in context - Sally's perspective here is something she regards as romantic and life-affirming, but she has her head firmly planted in the sand and refuses to let anything draw it out. Because the darkness she's refusing to confront is some of the greatest evil in human history.

This is a fantastic movie. You should see it in its entirety; when you do, you'll realize that this song has about three different layers of meaning. It won for Best Actress (Minnelli) Best Supporting Actor (Joel Grey), Best Director (Bob Fosse), Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Original Song Score and Adaptation, and Best Film Editing, and it apparently holds the record as the film to win the most awards without also winning Best Picture. I saw it twice in the theater when I was 13-no, my parents didn't take me, they were just negligent and never asked what movies I was going to see. (I also saw _Blazing Saddles_ that same year and _The Ritz_ in 1976, so yah, negligent parents).

This isn't just Liza singing theatrically, “cabaret” is the title song from an actual Broadway musical. The clip you watched is from the movie adaptation of that musical, starring Liza Minnelli as Sally Bowles, a nightclub (aka cabaret) singer in Berlin in the 1930s, shortly before World War II. As someone else suggested, you might consider adding the movie “Cabaret” to your to do list for your movie reaction channel.

Liza, born and raised to be the consummate performer, is an EGOT winner (has won and Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony), an amazing singer and dancer like her mother (you need to see and hear Judy sing Get Happy from the 1950 movie Summer Stock), was also wickedly funny in the sitcom Arrested Development and the movie Arthur is just great. A legend in her own right, which is pretty amazing considering how truly amazing her parents were (her father directed the classic movie musicals Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), An American in Paris (1951), The Band Wagon (1953), and Gigi (1958) and Judy, well amazing barely covers it.)

The movie came out in 1972, three years after Judy Garland died, and won 8 Oscars including actress-Liza Minelli, supporting actor-Joel Grey (the MC at the beginning of this video and father of Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing) and song/score. This is Liza's signature song. She is also the original singer of New York, New York from the movie in 1977. Please listen to But The World Goes 'Round from the movie. Liza’s Dad was Vincent Minnelli, who was Judy Garland’s second husband. He was an Oscar winning director who was known for his exquisite use of color and artistic sets. He directed Judy in a fun family film - “Meet Me in St. Louis” (1944) which was his first time directing in Technicolor, and did a great job directing the film “Lust For Life” (1956) with Kirk Douglas as Vincent Van Gogh. 😊

The sad part of the lyrics to that song is that both Liza and Judy struggled with substance use disorder, which is how Elsie died. At one point Liza changed the line to “when I go I’m NOT going like Elsie”. Cabaret was a Broadway musical that was turned into a 1972 movie directed by the legendary Bob Fosse. Fosse was an eccentric choreographer with a distinctive style who popularized the use of “jazz hands”. Fosse won 9 Tony Awards in his lifetime.

“I like the cabaret-ish sort of thing,” Mercury once said. “In fact, one of my early inspirations came from Cabaret”. In actuality, he fell as much in love with the film as he did with Liza Minnelli, who became a major source of inspiration: “I absolutely adore Liza Minnelli, she’s a total wow,” he said. “The way she delivers her songs - the sheer energy. The way the lights enhance every movement of the show. I think you can see similarities in the excitement and energy of a Queen show”. He added: “[Queen] have more in common with Liza Minnelli than Led Zeppelin. We’re more in the showbiz tradition than the rock ‘n’ roll tradition”. Detailing further, the singer continued: “On stage you either have the magic, or you don’t, and there’s no way you can work up to it. Liza Minnelli just oozes sheer talent. She has energy and stamina, which she gets across the stage, and the way she delivers herself to the public is a good influence. There is a lot to learn from her”.

Agreed, this needs to be a movie reaction. In context of the film, she's setting up the theme, Weimar Republic Germany. The actions here have consequences. In real life, Liza faced addiction, and when she sang this in later years, she changed the lyrics and inflections. "When I go, I'm NOT going like Elsie." and emphasis on "happiest CORPSE I'd ever seen." It becomes an affirmation of to live her live without her self-destructive tendencies. Also, note the audience, and how things change by the final scene when you watch the film. It's actually a very powerful story - meant to reflect on the choices we make here as well.
