I had the 1973 Hornby Dock Shunter. It was red with white lining and a headlamp that worked!! I’m sorry to say that, when helping me to move away from the family home, it got hurtled into the skip!!

Good morning Oscar. You have captured the spirit of going to an exhibition, seeing the products, then creating your own set up at home. Just like what we did back in the 60's and 70's,

Excellent footage from Gaydon - great to see the different manufacturer's systems running so well. You found some good items to buy, too. Yes, I know that 'look' your wife will give you when you've purchased a good find! Thank you for this morning's viewing. All the best. Gordon

Nice to see the EM2. I have the 27002 version which was CKD and assembled by my father. I used to have some catenary but found it made track access very difficult so removed it. Might reinstate a small section. It was clever that the locomotive could operate independently of the main track when powered from the pantographs. It was really innovative at the time that a switch on the roof selected track power or pantograph power; the power bogie is marked "I" (isolated) and "R" (return) on either side to guide which way round to position the locomotive when operating with the catenary power. Great memories and inspiring video. Thanks, Tom.

Hi Tom, thanks for watching great to hear about the EM2 your father assembled, definitely gets a bit restrictive on the track access! once you get the catenary in place, not only is it difficult to clean the rails, but you also have to clean the catenary... Thanks again take care. Oscar

Thank you for bringing these delightful exhibitions to those of us who can't get to them! I've got a CKD EM2 in Blue, dated "8 5 68" and its in the larger box with plastic tray insert and the instructions appear to be laid out differently. On first assembly the armature had a short circuit and had to be replaced. I'd never run very well, so look forward to seeing some tips on servicing it. Mike

Good morning Mike, thanks again for watching. Glad you enjoyed the footage from the show. Nice to hear that you have one of these locomotives in the alternative style packaging, interesting what you say about the armature, I wonder how many of these kits were successfully built, not just of this particular model, but across the range. take care. I like the combination of Playmobil figures and G scale buildings in so many places of the layout! I've also never seen G scale trains combined with slot cars That Marx layout is amazing, especially combing their British and American offerings as well as those CTA cars from the 90s and early 2000s The Basset-Lowke O gauge reminds me a lot of Lionel's postwar O gauge trains I'm amazed a Lionel and American Flyer prewar layout is operating in Britian. The track is more modern FasTrack and the track Lionel offered in the prewar era (well into 2000) was similar to the Hornby O gauge track

Another excellent O.P. video, always a great way to accompany my Sunday morning breakfast. I was pleased to see your Gaydon footage as I’d intended to visit the TCS event but I had an altercation with another vehicle the day before which prevented me from attending! I see the larger O gauge railways (e.g.Lionel) are gaining your interest, it doesn’t matter how much you resist the tinplate O gauge always gets you in the end !! LOL 😆
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Жыл бұрын
Hi David, hope all is worked out with your altercation.. It's never great when these things happen. You may be right about the old gauge, I have managed to resist.. I was lucky enough to be in New York a year or so before the lockdowns happened and spent a happy hour or so, at a shop called the Red Caboose, the stuff available is really quite astounding, a great deal of self control was required to leave the premises without any Lionel or American flyer... To date, my O gauge collection extends to a single Tinplate Hornby buffer Stop! It was in a box of many other Tri-ang Railways things that came to me several years ago. But you have to start somewhere! Thanks again. Oscar

I think the EM2 was one of triangs best locos? I always wanted one but never got one back in the day! I did, however, have two dock shunters, one red one black ,both with number 5 on, I think? The funny thing with them was you can double head ,but they have to face the same way ! I can remember thrashing the heck out of them! Great video, pure nostalgia! Thank you Oscar.

Good morning Oscar, what ai lovely start, Sir Nigle G is running nicely, and very nicely on to the mail run and that wonderful Dutchess mail train, i know in some ways its nice being automatic but i find it very usable to push the button to get it to pick up the mail bag, just a bit more playable. What a day you had at the vintage show, so many interesting models, loved seeing that L,N,E,R I think 0 gague where the carriages of were curved and fitted into one and other, never seen that before. Although i love living here in the South Devon, i never seem to see much in the way of vintage shows, so your brilliant filming is very much appreciated. Looks like you picked up some interesting bits, its great to see the trouble triang went to to protect the models and its so great to see they have been preserved and not thrown away. Please never apologise for the length of your videos, i find them so interesting you've got me hooked, anyways I've prattled on long enough so have a good week, I'm looking forward to seeing what you're able to do with the elevated station when you get that far, but in the mean time look after yourself, see you on the next one. Eddy xx

Hi Eddy, Glad you enjoyed that footage. It really was a terrific day seeing that variety of vintage model, railway items under one roof, I'm very pleased with the items that came away with, the truck is going to be very useful, the distraction of operating Railway, whilst holding a camera, the button completely slipped my mind, I was looking at it thinking it will just pick that mail bag as it rolsl past, and suddenly realised.. You're right, it does add a nice element to the play value having to press the button. My son as little boy was always thrilled at having to press the button to make it work. All the best. Oscar

Hi Oscar, Great video and equally good treasure trove from the show. Very satisfying if you can find the body for the Dock Shunter. Elevated section continues to be exciting. You might need to employ an acting unpaid button pusher for the mail bag side of things 😂 All in all quite a lot to take in so a second sitting on the cards, what’s not to like. ATB, Gordon

Good morning Gordon, glad you enjoyed that, defiantly got a Dock Shunter body from a much earlier trip to a TCS show, from memory it's in pretty good condition, I shall dig it out when the development of the railway as a little bit more under control. I was just thinking yesterday that a foot operated switch might be the thing for the TPO it would make it much easier to operate while using a camera.. Thanks again. Oscar

Thé first car I bought after moving to France was a white mk2 Golf GTD. It was identical to this one… except for the motor 😂. I loved that car, but with the arrival of my first daughter in 1995, a 3 door was no longer practical so unfortunately it had to go. I still miss it 😢

Good morning Andrew, thanks again for looking in, I don’t think there’s too much wrong with the EM2. Just needs a bit of a tidy up/service, remag on the motor, and perhaps a change of the base plate, which seems to have been drilled out around fixing screws. All the best . Oscar

Lovely video Oscar, My local Model Train Show has not taken place since November 2019 due to most of the members passing away due to the covid 19 virus or members having an adverse reaction to the experimental vaccination. I did enquire to go the the Doncaster exhibition this year but £14 to have a look at some toy trains running around is a bit steep in my opinion. Also they refuse to accept cash because they told me that the organisers require a `digital footprint` whatever that means. Kind Regards Kev

Good morning Oscar , it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your latest video of your wonderful layout. I listened with much interest when you said you had been to Gayton. I used to visit someone in Gayton, Norfolk and I was just wondering if it was the same place I used to visit a few years ago ? Your layout gets better and better every time i see it Oscar, the over head track section is really coming on and I can't wait to see the elevated station. All the items you bought at the model railway exhibition are very interesting. Things like spare track always come in handy and well worth keeping a good stock in. Keep up the good work Oscar, your doing a splendid job. Anyway Oscar, as i always do on a Sunday morning I've just had my cup of tea and toast and marmalade, again I've ran out again of toasted tea cakes.😊 My son Ben said I should put some in the freezer then I wouldn't run out , I think he's right. Lol. Stay safe Oscar.👍🚂🚃🚃

Hi Oscar ,, I really like your progress on your layout and especially the overhead train track you are putting in. I also admire the electric button for the pickup of the mail bag on your 3 rail set. So is that like an electrical actuator that puts the collection arm out inside the carriage ? And is it the same for shooting the bag out of the train too ? I have a few of the the Triang mechanical mail bag collector as in of the old marone coloured ones and one of the bright red ones and the light blue and dark blue intercity (i think) ones. I love the passion that the enthusiasts set up all there show items but still gets me why they run them sooo fast though ,, any way they are there trains to do so if they wish I suppose. I find it amazing how the engineering that went into the old tin trains and used all metals to make all there trains back in the day but i suppose plastic wasnt invented then haha. I especially love the liftup drawbidge in action and the little railway worker that comes out of his hut with a bell or lantern. The work you are doing on the overhead track you are doing the spans look quite wide so may i suggest you put in a few more support pylons in under the middle of each long span to take the weight of the platform tracks and trains. May be you could use some plastic sheeting or even say 5 ml perspex (paint it to your choice of colour of course) and cut it to shape and sit it on your girders tp put your staion platforms and buildings on. I have aquired a few of them morone cabooses and the last one was in tact including the grey chimney pipe where all the others have snapped off. Gee you were lucky to score the box of bits for a couple of cups of and cake ,, i like it when there are bargains out there and you dont have to pay top dollars for everything train related. Great video there again m8. Cheers from John in Australia.
@oscarpaisley
@oscarpaisley Жыл бұрын
Hi John, you need to press the button to complete the electrical circuit with the pick up on the side of the TPO van otherwise it will just roll past without operating, once the circuit is completed the solenoid opens the collection bin and opens the door to spit out the mail bag for delivery, it's great fun and makes a terrific sound. Glad you like the footage, there was some really terrific items lifting bridge was something else. The track was definitely the bargain of the day. Thanks again take care. Oscar
