Hey Holly! Glad to see that you are well and enjoying life in the South Pacific. Great Northern beans are somewhat similar to Navy beans. I'm told that they got the name because for years they were served on the dining cars of the Great Northern railroad. I'm not 100% certain if that's true but it sounds plausible. I am always impressed with your humor, skill and spirit of adventure. My friend just paid someone $500 to get the jaw of her whisker pole unstuck, ouch. But, her boat is San Francisco, $$$$. Very easy to say from my settee here while in the slip - the sea and sailing are just as much the goal as the pristine anchorages, they are not separate. You embody that philosophy well!

oh and for brass dog clips (similar but different) I soak mine in cheap vinegar for an hour or so then in water to get that off, then wd40 but my problem is normally sand so it's always a pita no matter what I do...

WD 40 is OK but you need a penatrating oil like PB blaster or Kroil to free up the wisker poles catches.

Holly. I've been watching your vids off and on for the past many months. They are different from most other sailing channels and that makes them refreshing. Just a comment about filling up with diesel... and you couldn't because it was Saturday. MANY sailors that I have watched have hit upon many closures of many things because they didn't check ahead and made an assumption. We all do things like that. However, in my history of travelling (NOT sailing!) I would ask about upcoming holidays that I might not know about, when stores SHOULD be open etc. etc. Obviously you made it just fine. I suppose that my comment is coming from years of being a Scout Master. BE Prepared, being the scout motto. What MIGHT happen? Anyway, keep sailing, keep learning and keep making vids. It is nice to see young people out exploring.

I'd value your opinion. You got a 27'er. Was that only because of budget? Nothing wrong with that, but would you have done it in a 32, 35, 38, etc if you could have. I'm in the market for a boat - budget limited of course. I've had a 28'er and would really like something 35' - 2', but what is your opinon? you have a vast and varied sailing history compared with me - thoughts..../bottomline.

Can I suggest that you do an exercise lashing the two boats together so one engine pushes both. You lash the fore quarter of one against the aft quarter of the other tightly but with plenty of padding. Both boats will move as one. I did it once the move a guys 55 footer up a harbor with my 44 footer of the time. That was the solution after I discovered that you can’t tow a long keel yacht with another if the towed tiller isn’t manned. That was pretty comical, 2 boats pulling each other into uncontrollable cartwheels in a busy harbor (Sydney).

I did that one time moving a heavy steel houseboat with my 16 foot ski boat with a 4 cyl. Chev II IO. Worked great.
