I feel you with the achilles problem. For me it came up when I started dancing more than usual and I had several moth of physical therapy and icing but it finally went away. So there´s hope. But also I´m not on pointe anymore. I once tried pointe again when it got better but had to start all over again because it was so painful. :/

I’m really not surprised when dancers have pain in various tendons, it is after all very physically demanding to dance, especially on pointe, and it’s also something human bodies aren’t made for. So sadly it’s only natural that it hurts from time to time. Be kind to your body, while dancing you’re pushing your body beyond what’s “normal” along with putting a lot of weight onto small areas and having your body in an unnatural alignment while dancing. Just take hips for example, it’s not natural for a human body to turn out the hips like a ballet dancer does, just like it’s not natural for a human to put their whole weight on the tip of the toes while arching their foot. Just be careful and be kind to your body so you can keep dancing for many years still. Anti inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen or naproxen or similar may help some if you’re able to take NSAID, it can both ease the pain and lessen the inflammation that is causing the pain. Topical things like tiger balm or liniment can help some against the pain so you can relax better which in turn makes it easier for your body to heal. I’m not a dancer, but I live with severe chronic pain and Hypermobility in my joints due to a genetic connective tissue disorder. At times I get inflammation for no reason really, only thing I could think of would be it coming from micro injuries due to my abnormal range of motion. I’ve never taken a dance class in my life but can turn my feet and hips out so much that my heels are in front of my toes. Anything beyond a normal range of motion can cause wear and tear regardless of it being genetic or something that has been trained over many years. I hope your Achilles’ tendon issues eases soon!

I had the same "injury" it's mostly from using this part a lot in ballet and it needs time and some physiotherapy to help it cause it's really hard to get rid of it

I am currently out of dance classes for 6 weeks because I got severe tendonitis in the tendons that run along my tibia and am also getting physical therapy as well as taking anti-inflammatories and basically living with an icepack around my left calf. So: I feel you, girl, I feel you

I also have Achilles tendinitis and it sucks 🥲 but when I use my pointe shoes I used elastic ribbons and didn’t tie it too tight and a little bit higher in the back so as my teacher would say I wouldn’t choke the Achilles, hope this helps!

I have problems with my achilles and it's because my calf is understretched. My plies have never been great and coming out of leaps can be painful for me. Thankfully I mainly work in tap right now though

I also have the exact same Achilles Tendonitis as you. I’m a Cheerleader and gymnast so it’s painful after the jumps and tumbling is so painful especially as I’m in one of the higher levels 😭 I do practically the same treatments as you do so if any of you have any suggestions on what to do, please reply!

Hi Alexis! And she uses a program called Penn Foster! For me as a ballerina, I had a tutor that helped me through my lessons and I submitted them online. I found that it is almost impossible to actually teach yourself an entire curriculum, and it caused a lot of stress. There are many homeschool programs that are done 100 percent online, and many people are successful in that. I recommend only high school and not college - if that was something you were considering. If you have what she has and if you are younger, I would recommend taking a break for a week or two before you the summer starts, especially if you are going away to an intensive. These feet problems don't go away, and it is not a good choice to throw away a career now before you even get started. Make sure to always put your body first! And consider whether or not your studio will be able to get you to your dream company. If not, you should maybe live with a host family or go somewhere else. Best of luck!

For my feet I did take a break and it did get better, but then it flared back up in another tendon that I actually tore when I was like 9....so yeah fun times😂 I also can’t take a break now cuz I leave for intensive the week after a show I’m rehearsing for. But for anyone that reads this with a similar problem I wish u all luck cuz it’s never easy

I struggled with tendonitis as well. You should take some time off of dance so it can heal and do yoga and good stretching of the calfs.
