So, interesting thing I learned when looking into portions of fruit and veg - you have to eat a different item to get each portion. So, if you consider a portion as one apple (for example), and you eat 2 apples, that doesn't count as 2 portions, that only counts as one portion. Same with juice drinks - whether the amount you drink is equal to one portion, or more, it still only counts as a single portion, regardless of how much you drink.

This isn't actually true. I'm a dietitian in the UK and we recommend trying to make it variable because you will get different nutrients and more health benefits from having a variety of vegetables and fruits, but it doesn't mean that we don't count 2 apples as 2 portions depending on what else you have that day. What you are trying to achieve is about 400g/day of fruit and veg overall minimum. However, there are certain things that we only ever count as 1 portion no matter how much you eat. These are fruit juices, pulses, and dried fruit. Fruit juice is because it's lacking the fibre content and fibre is one of the key things that helps reduced cholesterol and blood pressure (and therefore CVD risk) and also because juicing causes an increase in free sugars than can cause a spike in blood sugar levels. Pulses is because, although they're high in fibre, they're lower in vitamins and minerals than fruit and veg. Dried fruit is because again you've reduced the fibre and also concentrated all the sugars found naturally in fruit. I hope this helps and makes sense!

I think it would be easier to get 10 in than it sounds. Raspberries and blackberries included in breakfast, snacks you could have 3 snacks so grapes, orange and apple. Lunch have salad or like carrot/cucumber sticks and peach slices. Then the 2-3 vegetables with dinner ie broccoli, cauliflower and parsnips. I think it could be done!

One time I went 2 weeks eating only frozen vegetables and apples. The first week was absolutely terrible but the second week was 100 times worse. I couldn’t think about anything but real food every single second of the day. Even the thought of eating uncooked pasta made my mouth water.

If your bananas start going black or soft just peel them cut them into chunks and open freeze. Once frozen you can tip them into a bag and seal it up. Then you can whiz a bananas worth of chunks in a food processor or blender and make Banana Nice-cream. It's delicious and weirdly not overly banana-y. You can add chocolate chips, vanilla paste or anything to make different flavours of ice-cream too. The more you whizz the more Mr Whippy like it goes AND it's still one of your 10 a day 😃

5-10 every single day mostly 10 and I mean the number of different sorts of veggies and fruits not the number of servings and I'm doing this the past 6-7 years and I do eat all possible colors and I count types not portions,, during the time my hair is turning Grey and I get deep wrinkles so it's not helping delay aging and I don't feel like I'm immune to cold I actually catch a flew quite often! But I love fruit and vegetables

I did it one year ago for about 6 months, back when I was trying more and i was not quite as depressed as I am now. And during those 6 months I lost around 50 lbs. But was doing it hardcore and not touching any kind of junk or processed foods.

When I saw that the article said to eat 800g fruit and veg I immediately thought that there’s no way that’s equal to 10 average servings. The study said to eat roughly 9-10 oz fruit and veg per meal (800g per day). It’s safe to assume that you’re meant to weigh them before their cooked. They can loose a lot of weight during cookIng. You could meet the 800g goal by eating 2 average size fruits with breakfast, a medium potato and a small avocado with lunch, and a cup of cooked broccoli and another potato with dinner. What constitutes a “serving” of vegetables is not very well defined. Some people would say that I only listed 6 or 7 servings of veg. That doesn’t really matter though, since it’s still over 800 grams, and that’s without including any plant based proteins or juices that would make it even easier to hit your goal. I think all the alarmist articles that say you need 10 servings are just making it sound impossible so they can get a couple more clicks.

Im a bit confused what 10 a day means I’m 19 now have been eating healthy since 17. I’ve been told that I got to eat 8-10 veg and 8-10 fruit a day but that’s sooo much for me so I just eat 6 fruits and 6 veg a day . I’m not entirely sure how it counts , am I meant to have 10 altogether or 10 of each cause I just been having about 6 of each per day

I've been trying to get more fruit and veg as I try to get (down to) to size 40 before I become 40. Things that have helped me - Frozen Onions and Peppers added on as much as I can (Grilled, Sauteed) - At least Mixed Fruit cup replacing a traditional snack - Buying more Bananas (and adding it to Waffles, Cereal, etc) - Beets, Apple Sauce or Canned Corn with most dinners. Plus hitting the YMCA to burn 500+ calories on the treadmill 6-7 days a week

The things I remember from doing the nothing but fruits and veg is for the first week you will feel lack of energy and some headaches until your body adjusts, you will probity not experience those since you are just doing one week.

Course your bananas will go off if you buy them yellow. You should buy half yellow and half green. By the time you've nommed through the yellows the greens will be ripe. And any yellows that you didn't get to in time become banana bread or a sandwich!

One of the things i've always been a little jealous of America for is their massive variety of fast food, so i wonder if a week on fast food when you can only eat from a particular chain once and can only have an item once would be doable/interesting i.e if you have a burger and fries from mcdonalds you can't have any more mcdonalds or any more burgers.

A portion is 80g, meaning 10 is 800g.... I worked out the total weight of food I eat on an average day and it was 800g - 1KG..... So yeh I don't think this can apply to everyone :D
