There's a good series called Foot The Bill that's been costing all the traps in the Saw movies, and their explanation for Jigsaw kinda makes sense - i.e. that John Kramer spent *wayyyy* too much money on that first trap, and had to start dialling it back after that, so that's why the next few traps are just, like, Guy In Room.

I haven't seen this vid yet, just popped up on my feed- However, I like the messy Soap Opera that is Saw (Came for the Gore, stayed for the Lore) But what annoys me is when people bash John Kramer for his line about not being a murderer. Yes, he is. But HE doesn't believe it. Imagine watching MacBeth, and Lady MacBeth keeps washing her hands and saying "Out damn spot, out!" Only for someone to go "BUT THERE'S NOTHING ON HER HANDS!!! THIS IS A PLOT HOLE!! Yes, James; that's the point. That's why everyone in the series calls him "The Jigsaw Killer. "

tbh if someone came into the Saw fandom saying how Jigsaw's philosophy is, like, really insightful and thought-provoking, I'd assume they were a narc. My thing with Saw 2 is that every fucking interaction Jigsaw/Kramer has with Donny Walberg is genuinely fucking hilarious. It's the only really truly deeply funny part of the movie because yes, the nerve gas house stuff is just boring and not nearly as hilarious--but fucking Jigsaw looking at that detective like "awww, are you afraid your son is gonna die? AW IS THE DETECTIVE GONNA CRY"--that shit is so funny to me. Just Jigsaw being petty and wanting this detective to beat the shit out of him to me is the entire movie--you can almost skip over all the nerve gas house stuff and just watch the parts with Jigsaw and the detective to know what I mean. He's being the biggest fucking scamp and it's very fun to actually have him mock an easily angered detective for once in the entire series--he stops having these one on one interactions where he's just like "I HAVE YOUR WIDDLE SON DETECTIVE, WHAT'S THE DETECTIVE GONNA DO--AWWW DO YOU LOVE YOUR SON??? THAT'S TOO BAD"--again, I understand disliking the second one for many reasons, but upon rewatch that is the really funny campy part that I can't get over and that makes it a worthwhile sequel just because we have so much less "you little scamp" moments from Jigsaw that are live and actively happening. Like the cops go after the JIgsaw puppet in that and a cop gets his shins destroyed, you can't tell me that's not the funniest shit--but in a binge watch, you probably don't have that realization until you rewatch the second film after knowing what the rest of the series is like. It makes sense this is something you'd need to go back to after swimming in the depths and depravity of all the other Saw sequels... You can really appreciate Jigsaw acting like a little scamp and getting plenty of screen time for once, ya know? He's alive, no one's tricking anyone about whether he's alive or not, things are simpler and he's mocking detectives to their faces and destroying the shins of the boys and blue--my little ACAB heart can't help but sing.
