Thanks to my father, in 1975 I had the opportunity to sit in the DC8's cockpit in the instructor's seat (I am not an instructor) while approaching the HNL airport (Honolulu). Amazing view. In 1979, I had the opportunity to watch the approach to Hong Kong Kai Tak HKG from the Boeing 747's cockpit. This is something.

I vividly remember, perhaps 40 years ago, landing at HNL on an inter island flight ( 727 as I remember). The pilot turned onto final approach for 8 or 26 L (the reef runway), and I looked out the window to see a 747 stopped on the runway, pretty close to the middle. Don't know why the pilot didn't see it earlier or wasn't warned by the tower, but it was an exciting end to our Hawaiian vacation. I also remember how they loaded the 727's, in through the front door, out through the back dropdown stair way. Felt sort like cattle!

A340 delivery flight via HNL? Was this going to Air Tahiti?

It ended up in Afghanistan doing Haj flights. It was the 340 seen with people climbing on it when the US pulled out. This flight eventually ended up in Jakarta where they did maintenance. We then took it to Mazar-I-Sharif after it was done.

Crazy to build a housing complex that near to the runway. The noise must be very annoying! I am 35 miles out from the new major east west runways at O’hare airport in Chicago and when they built and opened them several years ago, our previous quietude is gone and they are landing at probably 3500 feet when they cross over in the vicinity of our house.

the houses that you see are actually maybe like 20 miles from the airport by road, but only 3 miles away by a straight line, there are many places with houses way closer to the runway, just look at Chicago, new york, and los Angeles area airports and you will know what I mean.

@@eprn1n2 Though I am mainly doing a Cessna and using the keyboard to control the controls, i’ve tried a little bit with different aircraft including helicopters. I love the flight simulators free, Downloaded it for Linux. The hold is about 13.9 miles from the DME on 171 radial, and I shot a DME arc just to see how well I could do. Doing IMC approaches definitely makes you think ahead of the airplane.I’m not a pilot, but I’ve been practicing on the simulator for about seven months and I’ve watched at least half a dozen CFIs talk about different things on KZbin. I have tried Some of the commercial maneuvers, and spin recovery.
@eprn1n23 жыл бұрын
@@messianichebrewshawnkawcak1550 You’ve got the bug! Much easier on the jet than the Cessna. There is a whole simulation industry where non pilots fly 737s etc. There is ATC. Very real. You’ll eventually do that.
@messianichebrewshawnkawcak15503 жыл бұрын
@@eprn1n2 Yeah I’m sure the automation really helps, you don’t have to worry so much about the wind correction because you just put things into the computer and it takes care of it for you. My guess is the big thing if you’re flying manually in a big jet is your power settings to stay on the ILS. The other thing is following the approach fixes some you have room to turn at the higher speeds. I would love to try flying for real to see how well I could actually do, especially with rudder and energy management because it seems like the Key to so many things. I love learning new things. I am good at math, so Airspeed calculations, pressure altitude, density altitude, flight time, and fuel burn is not intimidating to me at all. ATC communication would not scare me, seems pretty straight forward to me.
