A6000: Smartphone as External Monitor & Remote

While the smartphone is connected to the camera, press the Menu button on the camera for more options.

Nice video. I wanna ask why is your EVF proximity sensor lights up? Mine doesn't. I saw also other a6000 which doesn't light and some lights.

That is infrared light, it is visible only through a camera, not by the naked eye. The same thing is visible on a TV remote control's front LED.

Unfortunately the answer is No to both questions, this app is pretty low on functions. There is only a W and T (wide, tele) for the zoom.

Do you have any idea how to record vlogs? I was trying to connect my a6000 to my smartphone as a remote control in the video mode but it didn’t work. When I record myself for vlogs I need to control what I’m recording but the camera’s display can’t be flipped to the other side.

You can point this camera towards you, but you can't really control any aspect of it because you can't see the LCD. Either set it to auto and use it that way, or use another camera that has a flip out screen.

You can use a simple USB data cable also, or remove the card from the camera. Internet is needed only to install "PlayMemories" onto the phone, not for the file transfer itself.

If the camera is set to RAW & JPEG, when you press the camera's physical shutter button it will create RAW & JPEG, but if you press the shutter button on the smartphone's LCD than it will create only JPEG.

There's no touch-focus function in this app. I don't know why Sony removed it. Nevertheless there are alternative remote, live view apps on the Play store that do have the feature and are better than this app.
