Hey Robert, I was trying to connect my smartphone like you said in your video with the camera but I always get the notification: "Could not establish Wi-Fi connection between this app and camera. Delete unnecessary network settings..." My phone is connected to the Wi-Fi, I don't understand the actual problem it has when connecting to the camera. Anyone some advice?

I am not sure what is wrong but here are some trouble shooting steps. (1) The Sony PlayMemories App does not support Android 8.0 Oreo at this time. (2) Check to see if you have Airplane mode "on" in either the smartphone or camera and turn Airplane mode off in both devices. (3) The Sony Play Memories App does not support some Smartphones, do a search for PlayMemories Mobile Support Verified Mobile Devices to ensure your phone is on the list of Verified Mobile Devices. Hey Robert, I checked the list and I couldn't find my phone on the support mobile devices list so I guess that could be the problem. I'm using an Honor 8, a brand from HUAWEI but it doesn't seem to be compatible.. What a shame. :(

podgyprods You might also have to change the focus mode within the Smart Remote Control App in the camera after you are connected. Make sure it is set to Single-Shot AF. Look at my video again at about the 4:30. You probably changed the focus mode to single shot focus in the camera, but the Smart Remote Control App did not pick that up, thus you need to change it also in the Smart Remote Control App. Let me know if this works!!

Hello, I have a6000 camera and Samsung Galaxy Alpha phone. On my phone i have latest Play Memories app, and a6000 has 1.0fw, and I can see that it has some older version of Smart Remote Control. I Can connect my phone to camera, but I have only EV option to change? Will updating firmware and SRC app on camera extend camera options on my phone (shutter speed, f number, ISO). Thanks

+ProCro88 If you locked focus with the Sony app on the smartphone, it will not allow you to adjust shutter speed, f number, or ISO. When using the Smart Control App, look for the symbol of a hand with a thumps up. Tap on it to unlock focus. Then you should be able to adjust the shutter speed, f number, ISO. No luck (no live-view on camera evf or lcd) on getting it to work on A6500 and A7r III (won't be coming out until late 2018) Just like no ATG AF assist beam when shooting ATG ADI TTL wireless radio flashes.

+Li ONGI Hello, You CAN NOT have the camera in Auto shooting mode. You have to change your camera shooting mode to P, or A, or S, or M (the wheel on top of the camera). Please let me know if this works!

My Sony A6000 has "Smart Remote Embedded" in the applications list and not "Smart Remote control.". I cannot, after literally days of trying, get a connection with my iPhone 7. I'm ready to go back to Canon products. Sony website likes to play games with "Logging on" bullshit! This should be a lot easier than it is. My phone and camera have been "pinwheeling" for HOURS!!

Badgalpandamanda you don’t need WiFi. When you setup the connection, the camera will create it’s “own network” for you to connect to. This means you can set the connection up even if you’re in the middle of no where.

@@badgalpandamanda No problem. When you select the option to "send to smartphone" you have to go to your iphone and change your wifi to whatever it shows up on the screen. click on that and switch back to the app then you can transfer everything that you want over.

Great, thanks! Gonna try it now. I switched into a few different modes, even tried manual & DMF, but perhaps I skipped over AF-S by mistake. (My default is AF-C w/ AEL set as "AF-ON" for my standard back button focus set-up, so I must have toggled b/t virtually every mode except for that one in the last 30 min. of futility... I love your videos!! I just wanted to share with you something I just figured out. I put my camera on back button focus (based on your recommendation) and in that configuration the smart remote control app does not focus!! I needed to switch back to the AF with shutter and then the remote focusing on my phone worked. I don't know if you've run up against this but wanted to point it out.

Thanks for the concise & informative video. I still have one unresolved issue however. I have successfully installed & launched the app & utilized the remote via an iPhone 5, but I cannot figure out how to "enable" or activate the "touch (screen) to focus" aspect. All other functions (Aperture, ISO, exposure, etc) are working as they should, but despite trying w/ both the i5 & an iPad Air (as well as multiple different focus settings, zones, & areas) no amount of "tapping" or touching the screen of the mobile device results in focus. Any thoughts?

Yes. Your Focus mode is probably set to Continuous AF (AF-C). Change your Focus mode to Single-Shot AF (AF-S). That should solve the problem.

Bj Coghan I think you might have your focus mode set to AF-C (Auto Focus Continuous). Try AF-S or AF-A as your focus mode.

PuroDesmadre24 Option to set ISO. You don´t have options to set ISO and other things if your camera is in the green Auto Mode. Next time you get the "Could not Shoot" message, press the shutter halfway on the camera and try again. Also, if you touch focus on the phone, a green box appears with an x in the lower right hand corner. If have to touch this green box to make it go away before you can reset the ISO or other things. Otherwise, it is ok to take photos with the green box showing. I hope this solves your problem. Let me know if it works!!

sweetphilsugarhill is your camera in MF mode? let's try any of the AF modes and see if it is fine. I don't have my cam on hand right now, I will try that later and get back to you if you cant find that working

The ios app seems to have a new name: Imaging Edge Mobile. There is one called PlayMemories Online, but that is the wrong app. Apple's website says: "Imaging Edge Mobile is a free application that succeeds PlayMemories Mobile."
