No one has said anything but one of the most sweetest but heart breaking lines in the movie is Mario and Luigi's Dad's final line. As posted in the credits, Charles Martinet is their father's voice actor as well but, unless he has done voice acting for games being released in the near future, "These are my boys" is Charles' final line in the series. He was the voice actor for both Mario and Luigi throughout the series so, its very endearing to hear him speak of them in such a manner, knowing he's finally going to retire his role in the year of 2023.
@guyofgamez515811 ай бұрын
Charles' voice is being used again in the upcoming (as of now) Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon remake, but those are reused lines from the original. So "These are my boys" is the final original line from Charles.

Another thing about the Yoshi egg: during the wedding ceremony, it's a Shy Guy that puts the egg on the table which is ironic considering that Shy Guys and several variations of them have been recurring enemies in the Yoshi games since the first Yoshi's Island. Possibly a coincidence but seems too deliberate to have a Shy Guy of all enemy types gift a Yoshi egg considering their prominence in the Yoshi spin-offs.

What I found interesting is that they never call the Tanooki Suit the Tanooki Suit, Donkey Kong refers to it as a “raccoon suit” and Luigi says that Mario “looks like a bear”. I believe these are nods to the fact that not everyone outside of Japan knows exactly what a Tanooki is, and also since people have erroneously mixed the Raccon and Tanooki suits together.

The movie also sometimes gets the names of things wrong or just calls it something else. guess i'll mention one: during the scene where mario has to grab the superstar, the sounds used as the star bounces replicates the delicate glass-like "ding" sound you hear in the new super mario bros. games upon summoning a starman. also MASSIVE kudos to you for fighting so hard to get this video uploaded. your dedication is genuinely admirable

I'd like to point out some other things that might be worth noting: The Kong that opens the gates for Mario, Peach, and Toad is a specific Kong that's been seen in the games, I'm almost certain of it. I just can't remember what he was supposed to be called. The poses for when Mario and Luigi punch Bowser together (for the first time) while invincible both look particularly like the "jumping up" key art like you mentioned at 32:13. The second one they do while they're high up in the air and spike him like a Smash Bros. Forward Aerial leave them momentarily in a pose that feels similar to me, and somehow feels specifically like something you'd see in a Mario and Luigi game. Plus, the combined stomp they do next reminds me of the one they do when they use the magic door attack in Bowser's Inside Story, although this looked MUCH more forceful. When Luigi saves Spike from several enemies, including a Dry Bones, he uses its shell as a shield to block an attack from another enemy (I forget what it was, maybe a Hammer Bro.), which could be a slight reference to the Dry Bones Shell powerup in Super Mario Maker 2 that allows the player to jump on things that would normally damage them, boat across lava and poison, and briefly "play dead" to avoid damage. It's a bit of a stretch since it doesn't function as an actual shield, but maybe it was inspired by it. iirc, When Luigi manages to take a breather after getting away from the Dry Bones in the Dark Lands, the lightning that reveals the Shy Guys and Snifits (I think that's what the ones with the little noses on their masks are called) is accompanied by a very brief hit of the SMB3 castle theme. Maybe it was too obvious to be worth including, but idk. Also, when Luigi screams there, it feels straight out of Luigi's Mansion. In fact, there's one video of the Luigi's Mansion 1 Dark Hallways theme that you can find here on KZbin where I recall the end having the sound of a ghost popping out and Luigi screaming with a fading echo. When Bowser and Kamek are playing the piano together, it's obvious that Bowser is playing the Underground theme while Kamek is providing jingles of coins, a question block dispensing a powerup, and then a 1-up sound, but that SPECIFIC arrangement of that order of sounds, interspersed in THAT particular way comes from a SPECIFIC KZbin video somewhere out there where a fan was playing a Mario medley on a piano. I can't find it, but I swear I had it on recording on an MP3 player or something, because that particular arrangement is burned into my brain from listening to it over and over years ago. Seriously, if anyone can help me find it, PLEASE! Edit: I MIGHT have found it: search Super Mario Medley by Video Game Pianist. That name seemed very familiar, but I could've sworn he put in some sound effects toward the end of the Overworld theme, too.

Well, I read it. Just take time to read long posts people, or otherwise do not post to complain. The Kong by the way I think you are referring to Op is Swanky Kong, I almost guarantee it, and when we hear Thunderstruck by AC/DC, during the kart scene, I think that is Funky Kong.

The whole start of the movie is basically a recreation of the live action film. They too go around in that minivan taking every job and end up in the sewerage. They kinda took that start and "fixed it".

Fun fact: when Mario dies in Kid Icarus, the Game Over jingle is actually the version from the Famicom Disk System, _not_ the American NES! The Famicom Disk System had an extra sound channel not present in the NES version, so a few of the music tracks sound slightly different. I'm not sure why this inaccuracy is in the movie, but I have a few guesses. 1. The people working on the movie thought it sounded better; 2. The Japanese employees overseeing the project thought the U.S. version sounded wrong; or 3. The 3DS version of Kid Icarus is based on the Japanese version (since it has save files), so this version of the song matches one of the most recent releases of the game. Alternatively, this "mistake" may have just been planted on purpose to give obsessive nerds like me something to talk about.

One possible correction and one possible addition. Correction: The king did not die. You can see him fall out of the cart in the very next cut. Addition: I think during Mario's training montage, you can see him perform his triple jump, originally from Mario 64

5:48 also the plate mentions M4R10, which is a reference to Mario Day, celebrated at April 10th 19:23 the clothing Peach is wearing, although based on what Toads do wear, it's also similar to the characters from Doki Doki Panic, the game that originated the creation of Super Mario Bros. 2 outside Japan (or called Super Mario Bros. USA in Japan) Also, isn't Francis the dog based on the dog from Duck Hunt? I have that impression...

This one may not have been a purposeful reference, but the 1-2 pipe chamber had vibes very much like the route our heroes inadvertently took to the primary location of the original Mario bros movie. At least, from what I can recall. I sat through about 20 minutes of it on cable and bounced shortly after toad got arrested. And this was also ballpark 10 years ago.

I said the exact same thing when I was watching it. Figured it was a subtle reference
@dndbasement2370 Жыл бұрын
not so subtle, the whole premise of the movie is that the plumbers bros are actually called mario mario and luigi mario which forms the mario familly. this is entirely the premise of the old 90ies movie. this is a nod to miyamoto ackowledging that the mario brothers familly name is actually mario. this is actually a whole nod to the fact that the mario movie of old should of been like this from the get go. seriously, the whole intro is the one from the 90ies movie. the comercial, the plumbing problems, the fact they are out of cash and washed up already. that is entirely from the original live action movie.

Peach in the Toad clothes really feels like a half nod towards Doki Doki Panic. It may not have been intentional, but it certainly has that same kinda feel to me. Can't believe how many of these I missed, thank you for this!

The fact that Alpharad single handedly turned Mario's F-air into specifically an emphasized "Foreward Aerial" is the single greatest reference in this video. It's not even close LOL.

One refrence you missed is during the scene when captain toad cooks food for the soldiers at the gate of Princess Peaches castle. During the scene, a small sample of the music used in the Luncheon Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey can be heard.

At 7:51 next to Uncle Tony. You can see some Balsamic Vinegar with a logo of a chef on it. That chef is a colored version of the chef from the Personal Trainer: Cooking DS game. A game that has recipes of meals from most parts of the world where that chef will read out the instructions for each recipe and help guide the user in making the meals.

Interesting fact about Streets in the movie, You missed one. With "Link St.", there was also Wolf St., which has two references that I can think of. The first one being The Wolf of Wall Street, and the second being Nintendo based with Wolf from Star Fox.

Both Mario Bros being down on their luck plumbers living in Brooklyn who get transported to the mushroom kingdom via a pipe they find underground b/c they went down there to fix a broken pipe is basically the *exact* same start as the first live action Mario Bros movie with Bob Hoskins. The intro to this movie felt way too close to that for that to just be a coincidence, like they were doing a "Here's how you do it right"

I'm not 100% sure, but I think when Bowser was on the piano, and Kamek interrupted him, it kinda sounded like one of his noises in the game when he exhaled angrily/disappointedly/annoyedly but yeah this was pretty neat!! I also did not notice that Yoshi detail (with there being no green ones), so that was pretty neat!!!

The amount of Punch-Out references in this movie made me so happy, gives me some hope that some day we'll at least see a port of the Wii Punch-Out game. Also, worth noting that none of the art shown here is actually from the Wii game; the designs of the characters themselves are based on the Wii game but the art is all entirely new, made specifically for the movie. I'm really sad we didn't get to see these in high quality through some concept art or something, instead we have to comb through low quality blurry camera shots.

Two things I wanna point out here: 1. The paintings at 14:47 presumably reference Super Mario Odyssey’s painting warps more than SM64’s painting warps, due to their more noticeable design similarities and pictures of the landscapes. But then again, the painting warps in SMO obviously reference SM64’s paintings themselves, so I guess it all goes back around to being a reference to SM64. …and 2. Am I still the only one that thinks the obstacle course in the back of Peach’s Castle is a reference to Super Mario Maker? I mean, the overall look and feel of it and the platforming style reminds me of Super Mario Maker, at least. The numerous Piranha Plants, Bullet Bills, Donut Blocks, and Fire Bars also make me heavily connect it to the game in a certain way. Also, falling off the edge and restarting the course with no power up must’ve referenced the game in that sense. I have no idea why anyone talks about it or the correlation, but personally no one can persuade me that that _isn’t_ a Super Mario Maker reference. Anyways, banger movie, banger video, banger job, overall banger
@yoshiponyoschannel6471 Жыл бұрын
It's definitely a Mario Maker reference, I'm with you on that. I think it's also kinda a reference to Kaizo levels, what with how difficult it was.
