I'll pat myself on the back, I've always known the whole "do what you love..." thing was bullshit. Turning the thing you love doing into something you HAVE to do to live only makes sense if it's incredibly easy, or you're incredibly good at it.
@kaita2292 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think one good alternative is to try to make a living out of something you like but isn't your passion, and leave your passion as a hobbie or a side job at most, not something you feel the pressure to do for a living, but do it just because you love it. Both scenarios are better than making a living out of something you don't like, though.
@GrassToucher- Жыл бұрын
The lesson I've learned throughout my life is "do what you kinda like". Like its enjoyable enough that you don't mind doing it 40 hours a week but not so enjoyable that youd wanna do it after work too.
@HRIgnomious Жыл бұрын
The adage "do what you love" was from a time before being a content creator was a thing, I think they were talking about simple things like gardening and not depending on video monetization to live. Also this whole bit just screams of the "DJ Khaled Suffering from Success" picture. Guaranteed that both Woolie and Pat would be way more miserable if they were still in their old line of work. Not to mention that Pat has a baby on the way and if it wasn't for the fact that he has made a career off of it, he would've had very little free time to actually play games in the next few years.
@Neer-yy5nm Жыл бұрын
@@HRIgnomious a young dad I'm always really annoyed when I see streamers doing hours and hours a week of streaming videogames because I imagine if I'd have done that when mine were still infants/toddlers and how much pressure and how hellish my wife's life would be during that time while I get to yuck it up and play videogames. I picked making streaming and gaming videos as a hobby and I still get some content brain. I started doing it just to come out of my shell since I am shy. Now I have a list in Steam of games set aside for streaming and have bought games specifically with the idea of streaming them in mind. I do make the judgement call to not stream big titles that I'm excited for, like I wasn't gonna do a full playthrough of FFXVI. Only exception being Elden Ring which I would make progress off stream still. It helps me to some extent to still be able to pick up some games for fun. Also love to pivot to the bit.

The content brain conundrum is why I don't really stream, even though I have tried to get into it many times as a hobby, just because I do like chatting sometimes while playing stuff. I generally start and then end up stopping after a few weeks because I find myself wanting to play the game I've been streaming but not want to do the stream set up for it, and sometimes I just want to sit in silence and play it while listening to say, a podcast or something I'm interested in, That desire eventually wins out every time. Yeah, I like watching people play games because they love them and want to share them. Blind reactions can be great but passion shines through on your 40th playthrough too.
