The Kids Are Alright
Edit: So I just found out that the flag found inside the home that is very similar to the Syrian flag is actually the flag for the Syrian National Coalition, who as far as I understand were created in the wake of opposition to the Syrian government in 2011/12. Thanks to one of my watchers, Michael who mentioned that!
I was not able to find very much information about this property on my own but fortunately a few other explorers were able to dig up some clues as to why this house was sitting abandoned. In 2016, this very large sprawling property (30 acres) was sold to a development corporation for over $16,000,000, the neighbouring properties to the east were also purchased to make for a very large parcel of land. There is now a development proposal in the works that would see luxury homes being built starting at $2 Million!! This house which was built in 1967, as well as the neighbouring home, were demolished earlier this year and unfortunately the lots were also almost completely cleared of their large old growth trees!!
This is where the story starts to get interesting. You my followers know that I try to respond to most if not all of the comments I get on social media and one of the recurring themes I see in the comments is, "What about the homeless or less fortunate, why is this house sitting empty?". This home is one of the few exceptions where after it was vacated, it did not sit empty until closer to the demolition. In 2016, not long after the home had sold, the new owners decided that they would donate the use of the space to a refugee family from Syria! As the story goes, a small group of local residents joined forces to help bring the family here to Canada and settle into their new home. Once the Syrian family arrived, the residents again helped out by donating furniture, belongings and even helped to pay for their monthly bills. The family was able to live in this home for approximately 2 years until it was abandoned in 2018!
Thanks to Ethan Minnie for sharing this location with me and knowing a little bit about the house itself.

Static has two definitions, lacking movement, not changing etc. And static like on the radio, tv or phone line in other words, something going on when there shouldn't be or when it's unexpected, if that makes sense. I find it describes these places quite well considering they aren't really just sitting there unchanged. Stagnant is a good word too, i never thought of that one!

This is one of my favourite larger houses that i liked for a few reasons. First, the house style (outside and inside) just seemed to match with the surroundings (i saw another explore where it looked like it was in a country-like setting, plus it had a pond on the property). I think there must have been add-ons to the house, but there was thought put in to it so that the house flowed pretty well and looked modern but in a GOOD way--there is no jarring difference of the 60's part and the newest part. Things like the windows all matching in style or size to other rooms in the home (like the beautiful large windows in the kitchen, dining, den, master bedroom, etc.), and stone in the gorgeous den, which also carries to the outside of the house... this house was just a special one, and it's sad to know it's gone. 😥 P.S. You really have to be careful about bumping your head when you're doing these explores alone! 😕

The Syrian flag has changed a lot over the years as the country's leadership has changed. That was both the "Flag of the Syrian Republic" (1930-1958) and the "Flag of Syria" (1963-1972). So the Syrian connection seems legit, sort of. But perhaps an older family loyal to a prior regime? 🤔 It could explain why they were fleeing Syria. 😢 This is a beautiful house! It may not be that the family "needed" to have such a house donated to them, but whoever it was that felt compelled to help the refugees out just felt like _donating_ a house that big to this particular family. It's charity. If the story is true. With all the kid's toys, it may have been set up specifically for refugee children. Refugee situations often leave a lot of orphans behind. If it was meant as some sort of "children's shelter", it would explain both the size and the odd placement of beds/cribs. As for the potato head, you can call it Mr, Mrs., or "it", whatever you want. Potatohead's gender identity is up to the individual playing with it, lol... 😉
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know the story is true and it was only one family. The leftover belongings are probably just things they didn't have space for in their new place. The Mr Potato head thing was more of a joke, because I had read an article on that topic not long before filming this. 😆 Thanks for the history on the Syrian flag as well! Thanks for the comment!!

I really did like this mansion that you explored🙂. Every once in a while it’s nice to see a vacant new construction house that some family has just moved out of. If you were wondering what kind of language that you found on the note book it’s Arabic. My guess would be that the family was renting this mansion from the owner of the property but like you I don’t know why a immigrant family would need all this space in this mansion. It just seems too much for me. I also did like the mural that was on the walls of the boys room. I thought that it gave the room a bit of a nature theme. I have also never been able to understand WHY people just leave their possessions behind either because it’s still usable and most of the time these possessions are still in good shape. Thanks for showing us around this newer mansion and I could tell that it did sit on a good amount of land. See you in the next “STATIC SPACE” ✌🏻.

Wow, that was beautiful, big home! I would have liked to have seen it in its 1960s glory, but someone did a very tasteful, high end renovation in the early 2000s by the looks of it. And it looks like the family that was staying there did not take such good care of it. Maybe if they were refugees, they got the furniture and toys for free, and sometimes when people get things for free, they don't appreciate it. It's sad to think they may have been like that, but it's possible. Also sad that such a beautiful home on an acreage will be torn down, but I guess land is getting more valuable, especially closer to major cities, and a subdivision with lots of townhouses and detached homes is more profitable.

Only some of the places have publicly available information as to why they were abandoned. This one does have the back story. I think they just didn't have the space in there new place to be honest. This was a massive house that was donated and i would imagine they weren't all that well off. Thanks for the comment!!

James thats a Anti Syrian Government flag “the Opposition”. Green upper and 3 stars compared to red upper and 2 green stars. Thats a very sad state of affairs house house allot of character features which i gather new home builds will lack but hey this is the world today. Thx for the tour

Well that explains the similarity between it and the Syrian flag, thanks for that info!! Oh yes, most new homes built these days are as boring as they come. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

This house is in a really good condition. Why'd people just abandon it?
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 2 жыл бұрын
It was sold a few years ago to a developer. Then the space was temporarily donated for use by a Syrian family new to the country. It then sat for about 2-3 years before being demolished to make way for higher density housing.

I wondered that at first too, turns out it's used to quickly and easily bring firewood into the house. That way you don't have to carry it through tracking dirt everywhere. Thanks for the comment!!

@@StaticSpaces ok that makes sense now, keep it up with these videos my friend, its very interesting to realize how different are the situations in different parts of the world, I live in Costa Rica, and you wouldn’t be able to find any place abandoned like that in this country. In the next 3 months everything would be stolen, and then another family would be living in the house without permission for several years lol. Even though these videos make me kind of sad, to see the memories and belongings of a family just left behind, it also helps us to enjoy the real important things in life, our family and friends, to live everyday like its the last, its very clear that we die and we wont be taking anything with us.
@StaticSpaces

Oh yes, i don't doubt that there are a lack of these types of places in Costa Rica. But i am sure there still are abandoned buildings there, its just that they would be more like a shell or ruin by the time everything was stolen. Either way, it's a beautiful country, i have been there twice and i must admit i am very envious of the weather down there! So you can be forgiven for having a lack of abandoned buildings lol

Ha ya, it's a fine line between rushing and making a video that's too long. I received a lot of feedback when I first started posting and people were saying the videos were too long so for a while i was speeding things up. I've since started slowing down a bit since then. Thanks for the comment!!

Well you can't please everyone all the time. Half the people say my videos are too long the other half say they are too short or rushed. This video was rushed a bit more than my current style of filming. Art is an evolutionary process and you learn as you go, i thought i did a pretty good job considering i had only started doing video four months before that and only edited a handful of videos up until that point. But hey you do what you have to do and if you are interested in my content i am not going to try and change your mind. Thanks for the feedback though
