I had the 352 in my 66 F100, great motor. In 1988 sold the 66 to rebuild my dad's 1968 F100 360 V8 , I rebuilt again in late 90's. Over 500,000 miles and still on the road, I could never park it. May not look like new, but a very reliable truck. I maybe wrong but, the part you asked what it was, I believe it to be a dashpot , used to prevent dieseling { running after turned off }

Oh that may be what it is. I couldn’t figure out what it would be for. That’s incredible you got so many miles out of that thing.

As for battery, don't forget that that's a generator which doesn't recharge much at idle and still takes a half hour or more to charge it, when you tried the second start the kickback was over advanced ignition timing, back off a bit at a time, that uneven sound you get trying to start may be a dead or weak cylinder, pulling of plug wires one at a time and if one doesn't make a difference check the compression, could be a stuck or burnt valve, the other possibility could be a bad wire or 2 wires reversed, the fact the trans works is a minor miracle, myself I agree about a clear coat over the patina, the old gals earned those stripes, my advice is enjoy her as she is

Wow! I really appreciate you taking the time to share all that!! So much great information. I didnt even think about it being a generator not a alternator. I cant thank you enough for being willing to share your knowledge. The trucks still in a snow banks of ND. I hoping to get time this summer to work on it some more. I love how it looks too. I really want to perserve the looks as best as I can.

it’s 3 am but I’ve been binge watching the shit outta this series, I know close to nothing about cars but it makes me furious knowing that my grandpas ‘67 Ford just like the one here is just sitting collecting dust. Just might make a mechanic out of me with these, interesting videos and you guys deserve way more praise than you actually get.

Wow im speechless!! Thank you so much for such a nice, genuine, comment!! It really encourages me. Reminds me why I wanted to make videos. I'm kinda a crazy guy, but I love bringing joy to people and sharing life with people. I'm working towards getting a better camera and my editing computer limits me alot. So it means alot that youd look pass the junky stuff im working with and just enjoy it. Thank you again! have a awesome new year!

Seems to be a pretty solid old truck. I say either rebuild the 352 or swap it out for another. The body certainly seems to be pretty solid. Didn't see the frame but if it's as solid as the body she's worth the time.

It's fun to watch young'ns mess around with a 50+ year old ride. I ain't throwin' off. A 50+ year old ride (When I was a kid) would have been a Model T.

Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. When I was a little boy my dad had a old model T my brothers messed with. It was pretty neat.
@johnbroughton34014 жыл бұрын
Rebuild it if you want it to last. For one thing, you want hardened valves and seats to run unleaded. You'll probably want to go 8 to 1 compression so you can run 87 octane. It'll run just fine with an OEM spec cam. You don't want to soup it up... After all, it is an antique.
@schneidersgarage6884 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the wisdom!! Those are good things to know. I'm not for sure on what direction I'll take yet. It all depends on time and money.

@@schneidersgarage688 Rebuilding an FE block will cost more than doing, say a 351W. It is worth it. Resist the urge to go small block. A buddy of mine is doing that with his '67 F-250 and it has been one headache after another. Do-able but what a pain!

Great you brought it back to live. How is your progress on it the last months? Can't wait for part 5 ;-) Tinkered around for 67-72 Ford truck vids and came to your channel... Please make the necessary repairs and enjoy it! Obviously you have a nice base to start with ;-) Have one too, a 1970 F250 with a 360 and C6. Made some repairs over the last 2 years, no it is time to enter the street again soon ;-) If you need help and some knowledge, feel free to contact. Can't beat an old Ford!

@@schneidersgarage688 I wouldn't think so... If it has enough life left and the cylinder walls are ok, the heads and its valve seats too then put new bearings and seals on the internals, piston rings, valve stelms, a new timing chain, water pump and so on. That will do for the next years. Perhaps you can add a nice crank and some pistons of a 390 to it so you will have some easily added power. If that ain't enough you can bolt an old 4V iron intake with a 4V carb on it for some extra power. On top of it you could bring in a nicer camshaft and some headers. It is your choice but all of the above mentioned options are very reliable on these machines. I stayed with the 360 and its original internals and reworked all around it, it's fine for my purposes :-)
