This should be a big budget TV show. It’s better than a show about a pawn shop. It can be a show about classic American cars and trucks, finding them abandoned, and getting them into perfect condition.

@@jlafaele3908 Never too late! You just need to love the pursuit of knowledge. I was a 16 year old back in the mid 60's and remember swapping-out engines, carbs, transmissions, etc in the family garage with my buddies. Did we screw-up? All the time - but that is how you learn. Just find a like-minded buddy and dig in! It will become a passion that will stay with you forever. Just look at how much fun the Junkyard Digs guys are having. Good luck!

my neighbour has an '84 Ford F-250, it runs but it's been fiddled with so much that he's literally had to rebuild the entire engine twice. I've helped him reinstall the engine and reattach the transmission. At least those old trucks can be fixed with a bit of mechanical know-how, the modern electronic engines can't really be fixed that easily.

Oh to be young again and do stupid things. I remember finding a Austin A40 we bought it for $10 (5 pounds) back in 1965, she ran like a new one, but the throttle cable was busted so I pulled a piece of wire to accelerate. Some stole the back door catches so we ran a piece of fencing wire between the 2 door handles. If we hit something head on or I slammed on the brakes our mates sitting on the back seat would have been in two pieces, each. We drove the wheels off that car, all over Sydney and never saw a cop. 16 years old and bullet proof. Oh yes and unlicensed/ unregistered too. :-)

I inherited a 1948 Plymouth Rat with a 351c engine. I'm 69 so I've put my years of practical engine knowledge to use working on it... mostly as a hobby. Still, there are times when I need a pro to help me work out some little kink in the engine that gets me stumped after many trial and errors. The thing is it's tough to find a good mechanic who'll work on these older engines anymore. All the shops make their bucks on RR new cars (Remove and Replace what the computer shows gone bad). Great video guys, really enjoyed your calm banter, explanations and good video shots.

Brings back memories of when I was 16 18 years old. Cars are fun back then and not a bunch of electronic Wizardry. You guys are amazing and Mook is the cutest. I got a bunch of those old 60s and 70s Ford trucks and their the best. I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Chevy

You guys need to talk to investors / someone involved in media and propose this as a television show. Trademark your name first and then create a pitch with a shortened compilation of these videos from finding the truck to this video here. Im telling you the right person sees this and youll get sent all over the states to do some wild ass abandoned builds & your parts budget will be better ! Either way, keep it here or get a show ill be watching ! Congrats from Canada, buds.

The original ford fe timing chains had a metal gear with nylon teeth. When the nylon ages it cracks and comes off the gear. Can get a new chain and gears from summit for 68 or 78 bucks I think.

Yep, and the nylon teeth that break off often are stuck in the oil pump pickup too. Seen that a few times on those.

1986FordF-250 there was a really nice 100% rust free 68 f100 in a local scrap yard because of that. Bought the entire body to save it from the crusher.

I unfortunately sometimes see nicer old trucks in my local junk yard than what I see people driving a lot of the time anymore. Definitely some nicer trucks in the JY than what people try to sell on Craigslist LOL! Every one I crawl under is 100% rust free. Usually there because of a title problem, bad trans or were wrecked.

Agreed, and can be done in a couple hours w/o dropping the pan. The new one won’t have a spacer washer for the cam gear, built in to the new one.

Yep, doing a timing chain on an FE is much easier than any other Ford V8. No coolant running through the stupid timing cover ears or busted off/rusty timing cover bolts to deal with.

I have been working on old trucks (started with a 1949 Studebaker 1/2 ton) and everything up too today. After working on these old engines since the 1970's I appreciate you guys taking the time to revive this old girl. Good work guys and Congratulations on the find. Now I have only ONE complaint. If you value your engines AT ALL. NEVER I mean NEVER EVER use Fram oil filters. There are tons of research out there proving they are some of the worst filters you can get. The only thing they had going for them was good marketing, but crappy product. If you value your engines, use Wix or Napa filters... That being said, good work and keep it up guys!

The proper way to do that "start it in gear and launch" is to use 2 old crank jacks..or 2 old sketchy jack stands..start it then give it a good push with your foot..trust me, we have experience at this ;) once got a old GTO home like that after the clutch did bust loose after a joy ride like that..and surprisingly it even had brakes..not good ones mind you..but brakes. We had a tow bar we were going to use, but after the clutch broke free I drove it the 6 miles back to his big garage, where we finished it over time..unfortunately someone came along with big money, and talked him out of it in 1992 :( he regretted letting it go until he died last December. Moral of this story? Keep your old restores.

Good rule of thumb for setting base points gap is approximately at .010". Or the thickness of the cardboard of a cigarette pack. You will have to adjust from there, but it works for a starting point.

Very enjoyable. It reminds me of some of my youthful auto antics. A 50/50 mix of Acetone and ATF is the best penetrating oil ever, far superior to the stuff that comes in a can. If you can squirt some up into the throw-out bearing area, without getting it on the clutch, it might free up the throw out bearing. A little heat might help as well. Keep up the good work!
