Where are you going to put the bathroom? Next to the kitchen, maybe, I missed hearing you mention it. I’m sure it will turn out wonderful. It will certainly be wonderful to follow your progress. 😊

I can’t get over how massive the granite stones are that make up the walls of your future house! They’re so beautiful!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️ I love the idea of a mostly glass wall kitchen, and to maximize space, instead of doing a staircase inside the house down to your son’s future room, put it on the outside wall down from the inside of the kitchen? When we renovated our farmhouse and gite in France, we used a builders piping bag to render the walls in between the stones, so much easier and quicker. Your doing amazing well done. ❤️

I think they are referring to pointing not rendering. Two different techniques. One refers to covering the entire wall with render. The other refers to filling in the gaps between the stones.

I was going to make the same recommendation. They also dug out the ground floor for added head room and put layers of different kinds of base to resolve damp and providing insulation. Lime is the better choice for stone buildings. Just order your supplies well in advance! Looking forward to watching your progress!

How amazing to have such a beautiful farmhouse on your land that you can restore, a long journey no doubt but such a fulfilling one! Have you been able to find any old photos or plans of the house? I restored an old house many years ago and it was a labour of love, we took lots of photos on the way and they became our artwork when the restoration was finished. We printed them in black and white and it was such a great reminder of the journey. Hoping your bee hives have new inhabitants soon!

Restoring the house is the best decision. We had an old farmhouse bigger than yours in two floors and slight slope like yours, in a small hamlet the other side in Spain over the River Miño. We in order to get height on the basement ground floor which was divided into animal quarters, wine cellar, storege were tools and plough were. We lifted the height of the roof and left it in nave type style. You can purchase stone from various local quarries or weathered stone from knocked down old buildings, and build your extension using as a base similar stone, and the rest of the extension in a different finish if you don't want all stone, that way and it would be in keeping with the existing building. Good luck and I am so happy for you and your children, the pace of life is slower. It is odd that probably the owners of your property emigrated to make a better living perhaps in a different country, and yourselves are coming to do the reverse. Your son and daughters are adorable. Keep posting your videos❤️

I was just reading this…Bees do not like strong-smelling plants, and mint is at the top of the list. Peppermint and spearmint are very common and easy-to-grow plants. While peppermint has shown to be slightly more effective than spearmint as a bee repellant, both types of mint can work.

Amazing vision for the house. Where will be the bathroom? I am not an expert on bees, but I know you nee to be careful if you have woodpeckers around, as a friend of mine had her bee hyves damaged by wood peckers in winter and all bees were lost. So maybe build a cickenwire mesh cage around the hyves. Since there is a lot of wildlife around you ❤ Can not wait to see the water turbine project 😊

About the apple tree I would suggest that you secure the bigger branches ir wotherwise I think that the tree won't be able to keep all the aplees that are coming form that flowers. Exciting news. Loved learning more about the bees. I’m looking forward to seeing how the water turbine works. The stone house will be amazing. Is there a smaller stone ruin on the left of the house? I thought I saw another roof. Do you guys have to jump through many hurdles to add onto the house?

We are excited to share it with you! Yes there is a little drying building (used to dry corn) but that isn’t ours sadly. Yes there was a lot of paper work and checks we had to do but we made sure it was all in place before we exchanged on the property ☺️ l

I can't wait to see the house be transformed. I do have one question....well actually two.... the little building beyond the stonehouse...is it on your property? Where will the bathroom be in the stone house? Keep up the hard work. If will be worth it!

Thank you so much for watching, so the little building sadly isn’t ours it’s the old drying barn for the property below us( which is derelict) and yes the bathroom😂 we totally forgot to talk about it in the tour it will be in the “old kitchen” the little room that currently doesn’t have a roof! ☺️

Para terem uma melhor visão da casa, o melhor é tirar tudo de dentro. Penso que também o telhado terá de sair, as madeiras não devem estar em condições de serem aproveitadas. Uma armação de madeira para fazer o telhado, com o tempo vai ficar mais caro e no caso de haver um incêndio, vai arder. Pode fazer a armação com vigas de cimento ou barras de metal. A parede em pedra que divide a casa, tira-lhe muito espaço e a possibilidade de fazer um melhor aproveitamento do espaço. Originalmente era a parede exterior da casa, à qual foi acrescentada outra e deixaram-na ficar. Sendo uma só casa, podem tirar essa parede e aproveitar as pedras para a extensão da cozinha. Quando renovei a minha casa, na Beira Alta, tirei as paredes interiores, de pedra, e dividi a casa como eu queria. Como fiz a casa um pouco mais alta, aproveitei as pedras boas de um muro e arranjei outras noutros lados, para aumentar as paredes.
