The people I visualise would be old leaseholders, cost and time were irrelevant, recreating the space of a station holding. built 65 years ago, updated to the early 80's, and enjoyed greatly. I have seen rambling country places here that were along these lines, but miles & miles from anything like a city. Good job capturing this on record. Cheers!

At first I was a bit so - so over the house, nothing exciting, some awkward rooms, but a good size overall. Then you showed the back garden and I thought "hmmm ok, looking better", but then you revealed the back shed and I decided "SOLD - I'll take it !! ". What a lovely sized shed. The kids would never bother you out there as it's too far for modern day kids to walk and to make sure, you'd tell them a lie about there being no internet connection out there. It's big enough to be both a man cave and a workshop.

Hi Paul, another lovely old home with a beautiful garden, what it must have looked like in it’s heyday. With the cracks and the termites it just wouldn’t be viable to save. The ceiling roses are fantastic, i don't recall ever seeing those pointed styles anywhere else. o think your right on the money with that garage being a custom dance studio. The past owners sure put some hard graft in that awesome backyard too. I'd say back in the day this family were very popular people with some memorable parties being given here. Nice job.

Lovely old fifties home. I think you were right about the stained glass windows being added later. Those huge mirrored closet doors scream fifties. Who ever had this built spent a great deal of money on it. Just the landscaping, patio and "shed" probably cost as much as a small bungalow. Thank you for bringing us along. I really like the open space in this home. Plenty of room for party's and dance floor, entertaining out the back. It may have been a dance studio at some point when I used to do ballet and tap the studio we went to had that same flooring for acoustics. Great place for a barbie and a few drinks with friends. The front of the home had really pretty coloured brick. Another solid home so sad to see go😔
@sandypritchard62164 жыл бұрын
That sounds like it could be the case. Also, I'm wondering if they had a large extended family along with their own? Because of the size of the house, and the party/studio. Those wooden floors would be fantastic to dance on, and the sound quality would be great. Wonder what the neighbour's have to say about the place? If any are still around, that have lived close by, through the years. No matter what I would have loved having all that space, for a 'do'..with a live band..nice cold beer. 😄

I have noticed some common features that you rarely see in US homes & I really like. The ceiling medallions & ceiling edge work, etched & textured glass doors are beautiful. Stained glass usually only found in Victorian era homes. I also like the covered "patio" areas that run along side of many houses which @ 1st I thought were covered drive ways as our drive ways often run along the side like that. And the stainless steel sinks w the dish drying areas. That style here is usually porcelain & found in 40's/50's (?) style homes. I also like the older homes with the long hallways & an arch. Very nice style of homes. Ty 4 sharing.😊😎

Another of those fine '50s homes to be destroyed. I am glad I was able to see the leaded glass windows and the ceiling features (I've never seen one like that in the kitchen). I didn't expect the house to be so big either and it did feel like a rabbit warren. The garden was wonderful. It would just require some trimming and mulching to come up beautifully in the spring. I have no idea what that shed might have been used for. My first thought was sports of some kind, then I wondered if it might have been used for the dances you mentioned when you said the park was just there. Thank you for taking us there. It got my imagination going which is one of the things I look for in Urban Exploring. Until the next one.

Beautiful home! Thanks for sharing! I was thinking perhaps the shed area with the wooden floor may have been a dance studio, or used when aerobics dance classes were so popular in the 80's. It's been my experience that venues for parties or celebrations usually have some sort of kitchen or food prep area to be ideal. Oh, but if the walls could truly talk!! 😊 Again, thank you for sharing your experience and discoveries with the rest of the world. Very interesting. If that huge back shed was used for dances or other large public gatherings it seems they would have needed toilet facilities in the building. Maybe the one toilet in the house with the door to the outside was enough to serve the shed. I've noticed a lot of these nice old houses that are scheduled for demolition are on a busy street with lots of road noise. Maybe the traffic noise and the cost of fixing the foundation issues are why no one is willing to step up and restore them.

Not crazy about the 50's homes as I am about the older homes. But you always do such a fine explore I have to watch :-). The garden was my favorite and the back building was a great addition, could be made into a fantastic guest house and still have room for a work shop and man cave :-). Surprised that a 50's home would have those gigantic cracks (foundation issues?) as serious as the older homes. Am sure that is what a contractor is happy with when looking for homes to demolish. At the front of the house in the corner, was that a garden or fountain under the awning? Thank you for a fine explore - so glad you or the squatter wasn't surprised by a run in. Stay safe!

Yeah if I had to choose it would be the old Victorian and Federation era homes too Donelle :-) But the 50`s were the last great era of old fashion quality in my opinion although this ones interiors have been updated. Building codes were changed and improved in the early 60`s here in Adelaide to combat the cracking due to the clay soil here so yep 50`s homes are full of cracks too. Cheers for watching :-)

Just noticed the termite damage, as I viewed a little more of the video. Doesn’t look too bad, but the damage is actually determined by tearing the wall out. Could be several walls, ceiling, or floor, unless it’s concrete. Termite damage can be very extensive, as well as expensive, but a DIY job can be much less than hiring someone to do it for you. A lot of work, but you’d reap the benefits in the end. I haven’t mentioned foundation issues, electrical, plumbing, or roofing, or a host of many other things, because the problems with each vary. Asbestos and lead are two more things I didn’t mention, but all this comes into play when buying a house. So do financial issues, such as a complication the previous owner may have run 🏃♀️ into. Flood and fire 🔥 damage are two more things to mention, but termite or fire damage, the process is the same, by tearing out the ruined wood, and replacing it. In some instances with a two story house, or a three story house, depending on how much wood you need to tear out downstairs, you need to know about load bearing walls. In this instance, you will need to put in artificial reinforcement during the project. This will hold up the top story of the house. Once the job is complete with wood replacement, ya can take out the artificial reinforcement, since it’s use is temporary. I’m pretty sure this can be a DIY job, since professionals can be very expensive, and can amount to over half the cost of the house.

I think squatters should take over all abandoned houses.
