Do NOT ever pay for car repairs with cash. Use a credit ir debt card! Any issues, you call and do a charge back with your credit card. Protection.

This is why auto repair shops will often offer 3-5% cash discount. So they never have to refund. They say its because of credit card fees. But why don't grocery stores offer cash discounts then?

Actually her mistake was paying up front for the repair. A legitimate garage will not ask for that. Their protection is that if you don't pay, they can put a mechanic's lien on the car. And even if the garage charged an addition 3-5%, I'd still pay with a card for the protection it gives you.

I brought my car to a shop in Belleview Florida for misfires. The shop said it was the coils and plugs. $900+ later and I drove out with the same problem I went in with. They then told me it was the computer, then they told me it was the engine, then they told me they didn't know what was wrong!! I watched some Scanner Danner videos and purchased a decent scanner and fuel pressure gauge. I found out my car had low fuel pressure. I had my neighbor replace the fuel pump for me and now my car runs great. The shop I took my car to had great reviews. They advertised they have the latest in diagnostic equipment and training!! They could not even diagnose low fuel pressure. Total hacks!! They are parts changers that have no clue what they are doing!! Trust no one!!

A fuel pressure check is probably the first part of any performance diagnosis. It's the basics that need to be addressed first. For the unscrupulous people who have absolutely no idea what they're doing, a common person is "fair game"!

I was going to have a 140-hp swapped for a 175-hp. He had it for over 6 months and every time I picked it up bc it was "done" I had more problems. It got to the point where after the 175 threw a rod, I threatened him with going to the news and the DBPR. I finally got a used 175 from FWS, or so he claimed. That was 3 years ago and it's still going strong despite the number of hours on it. Oh... it was a Suzuki! The bottom line... don't always believe reviews.

This one will likely never get any traction at all. Government people only care about these things when it happens to them. Then they start passing new laws and making the system work.

I elected to sell the car instead as its old. 2,900 is doable depending on how new and mileage of the replacement engine. The cheapest engine i found was $550 at 112k mileage. Labor at 1,300 thats less than 2gs

This is sadly true, and people are usually scared to confront auto repair shops. They usually just get swindled & accept the loss. And the shops know this I don’t play that I had a shop, do a repair I didn’t request. And I told them straight up I’m not paying, they threatened to keep my car I said over my dead body, I will reverse tf out of here…stop playing with me lol. Long story short they cut the price down significantly, and ended up just covering the whole job for free I do my research & bring my own parts to the shops, tell them exactly what I want done. In Canada, repair shops don’t ask for money up front, they will call you if they find more issues and let you know the cost to repair it but you have the choice to get it done or not. I also wonder sometimes if the work you are paying for is actually getting done, I think that’s where mechanics take advantage of people because not everyone knows everything about cars, so unless you have knowledge about cars, mechanics can tell you anything and you’ll agree to have the work done.

Glad I never pay anyone for any work done wether it’s home repairs or car repairs. I do it all myself. Granted tools add up its so worth knowing you didn’t get ripped off by anyone.

Sorry to that. I don't know why it's so hard to find an honorable mechanic. I paid a company to change my motor mounts and they pulled the bolts out and just left them there laying loosely and never put the new ones in. I couldn't believe they gave me my truck back like that.

#1 Look for a reputable shop before you have trouble. And make sure their mechanics are certified. Family or friends can help with this one. #2 NEVER let the tow company do the work, have it towed to YOUR mechanic. #3 Always ask for the old part they replaced. (if possible, try to mark the old part with a mark that only you know. Don't let them know!!) #4 NEVER pay for repairs until after the work is done to your satisfaction. #5 NEVER pay cash, use a payment source that you can cancel. Check or credit card.

I would always recommend a dealership, there are honest shops. Always have a great experience with VW dealership services in the mpls area. There are independent shops, but always get a written estimate. They should always recommend only what is needed, not try to oversell unnecessary services. Also look at the owners manual. 🇺🇸

I used to do auto technician work military and civilian. I don't trust other people with the vihicle. I do my own oil changes every 5000 mile that it recommends. The oil and toyota says it should be changed every 15000. The oil starts to breakdown at the 5000 miles. After that you will get heat friction on the cylinder wall and cause to overheat. I think this lady didn't change her oil regularly. Thats why she needed a new motor.

Maybe she can get her money back or a go fund me to get a motor for her car? It may not even need a motor...scammers said it needed one to rack up storage charges. Might be something else that can be fixed cheaper. Only pay after repair is done and you check it out!

She should have never given them any money. Any reputable place won't charge you until you pick up your vehicle. That should have been her first sign. There was an issue. Whenever I have anything done muffler work, this that breaks I inspected before. I picked it up and if it's something I can't see. I tell them to raise the vehicle before I pay. And I inspect and make sure I have new parts

I'm betting this single mom is like a lot of other ones who NEVER check the oil level or stay on top of preventative maintenance. The engine failure scenario was probably caused by her own neglect. Probably won't be long before that Honda Accord she's now sharing with her daughter will end up broken down, too.

@@AnotherCG some shops won't charge you too much labor for an engine, personally I'd just buy a used one with lower miles. A ford 3.7 V6 or 2.0l ecoboost should be pretty cheap it came in a plethora of models

Word of advice for anybody that does business with other people like this do not use zelle to do transactions because there's nothing that the banks could do for you. Always do a check and or use your credit card in case any fraud happens you can contest it and dispute the case

I don't know what fraud unit would have to doby looking into it?? It couldn't be any clearer that she got taken. The sad part is. She's probably gonna have to wait 6 to 8 months to have some kind of judgment. And that's all she'll get is a judgment, no money...

I guess it depends on where you go bc i have NEVER had to pay for repairs or parts upfront... That i remember I try to look up multiple*** shops (if im out of town or new to an area...) and look at the google reviews..how long they've been in business.. not just the price.. It happens to us all tho 🙃

Always do your car repair from the dealership or another car repair contracted with the brand/ dealership . Never go to some back alley auto repair shop . 9/10 they either won’t do it right the first time or they will charge you more than the dealership when everything is said than done .
