As a child abused by my mother, its astounding how well a parent can mnipulate others. My father never knew how badly I was abused, and I never knew my mother wasn't telling my dad anything. The entire community believed my mom was a good and kind hearted woman, and still do to this day. She had me believing things were normal that absolutely were not normal. I have a misshapen head from her "smacking me upside the head" whenever I angered her, I was medically neglected to the point that my elementary school had independently gotten me diagnosed with a speech impediment, adhd, and a learning disability, and she managed to hide it from everyone including myself until I was in my mid 20's. I later got diagnosed with autism, pcos, endometriosis, manic-hyperdepressive bi-polar disorder, CPTSD, and severe social anxiety. All things that she had me convinced were solely moral failings on my part. It's horrifying to think about, but stories like mine are so common that I was regularly brushed off as being oversensitive when I sought help in the mid 2000's. Sensationalizing these stories must be awful for the victim of the story, but also validating for them to know that what happened to them was wrong. I hope that people learn to see abuse more through seeing people react to this kind of horror, and that the suffering these kids will have for the rest of their lives might at least save other children from similar fates. After recently reading an article about the father's side of the story, it's pretty obvious that these two women were in a lesbian relationship. I mean, the women would lock themselves in a room for several hours and come out "on cloud nine" after supposedly having "spiritual" experiences, and began sleeping in the same bed while Jodi lived there with them. Then after the women went on a vacation trip together, Ruby returns to say she wants him out of the house. I mean, these type of affairs happen a lot to people who aren't in a religious cult, so it's pretty common stuff aside from the terrible child abuse in this case. Pretty easy to figure out, Jodi wanted Ruby for herself. I'm just surprised he was so passive about it while it was occuring!

I dunno, maybe they did have a lot of followers initially, but I think people began to complain. I took a look at a few clips and her personality was so toxic that I immediately disliked her. Just her mannerisms alone were so annoying and unattractive. She was just so full of herself and fakish. I didn't watch long enough to know what her channel was all about or what she was doing, just long enough to know I couldn't stand her voice and her expressions. I hope she and her business partner are held accountable and get sentenced. I do not trust the father, first impression is that he is too self absorbed or selfish too properly care for his children and put their interests above his own. I think the court should consider the testimony of the eldest sister.

@@bg9509definitely millions. Ruby herself said she left millions behind to do Connexions full time instead of uploading on 8passengers. Not that Connexions isn’t lucrative itself, the two youngest that were covered in wounds were found in Jodi’s $3 mill mansion. So sad how they were able to get so much money from exploiting their children and encouraging awful parenting advice/therapy

The Mothers narcism was much greater than the love of her children. The odd part if it all is that she will never come to terms with it. A complete breach from reality. So much loss and so much hurt. I pray these children know that love is not conditional and they can one day experience that unconditionally without fear.

Sheer horror at its worst ~ systematic torture and humiliation of young children over a long period of deprivation and abuse at the hands of those evil women. Many children suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, anger, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating, and symptoms of anxiety following experiences of this kind.

It blows my mind because I was in third grade when I started watching 8passengers and I’m about to graduate soon. I was a child and thought her parenting was never bad. Obviously now that I’m an adult I am looking back at her videos and every video there is a flaw. It’s crazy that I was once a child watching this family grow and now I’m adult watching their family tear apart and their own mother go to jail.

Jessie gave a long form interview about her life on the Mormon Stories Poscast. Her mom and dad planned it without telling her. They travelled from CA to UT to visit family, and her parents left in the middle of the night. When she woke she was told that she would now be under Jodi’s care. Her story is definitely worth a listen, it’s heartbreaking and I’m glad she’s finally getting some vindication. We’ll see if her parents finally start to acknowledge the abuse that happened.
