I think Arthur mostly said that because of what happened to him personally. He once had a son, and he did his best to go see him everytime he could, and he couldn't protect him. John left his son and his wife willingly for an entire year and unlike Arthur, he just got them back, alive and well.

It was romantic in the past, after fishing with Jack, you can see in Arthur's diary that he once thought about marrying Abigal before she feel in love with John, but blames Mary for not pursuing Abigal.
@luissousa2844 жыл бұрын
@TheHolyLoaf Abigal was a prostitute and she slept with most people of the gang, look it up, that's why John isn't sure Jack is his son. So yeah, it could easily be romantic.

I think Arthur had a crush on her in the past but during the time of RDR2, Arthur has got over her since he fell in love with Mary and the relationship between him and Abigail is simply friends. Do you ever think that John feels guilty for not staying and fighting with Arthur on that mountain?
@ethanbradley20894 жыл бұрын
Probably. But he had his shoot out with the Pinkertons soon enough. What's sad is he had no way of knowing that a near death Arthur would be able to fend off government agents, only for Micah and Dutch to sneak up on him. What could John done though? There'd still be the possibility that John would get killed. And there was no other way for Arthur. If Arthur had fought off the law and killed Micah he still would have been on deaths door. They were still years away from a treatment option for TB. And thanks to Dutch he couldn't go west. And that was just a pipe dream at that point. That's at least how I would rationalize it if I was John.
@j-dawg47744 жыл бұрын
Good point, but Arthur did tell him to get the hell out and was fighting the entire law, it would've meant eventual certain death
@hassetjifrebro82224 жыл бұрын
J Dawg At that point, do you really care if you die by a bullet, or from your disease a few hours later? Either way he could buy time for Marston to get out. By that point at least the path I went with with Arthur, he had readily accepted his death.
@Eco-pu2zs4 жыл бұрын
At that point in the game everyone knew Arthur was dying or at least very sick, he could not be saved. Arthurs time had come, but John, Abigail, and Jack still had there whole lives ahead of them. The time they had as a family wasn't as much as it should have been, but it was more than they ever would have had if Arthur didn't die better than he lived.
@sansastark40404 жыл бұрын
@@ethanbradley2089 I think it's just hard for John to talk about everything that went down that night. Like you said Arthur was dying for the TB and he probably wouldn't have made it out alive even if he had killed Micah and the Pinkertons. In my headcanon, John is just sad that he didn't get a chance to do more for Arthur. Hindsight is 2020. But this is why you have fanfic where you can change the ending of a great story into one with a happy ending where John, Abigail, Jack and Arthur run neighboring farms in Wyoming.

You can hear the sadness in John's voice when he tells Abigail "I'll talk about him but what's there to say?" I feel like it isn't just about "forgetting the past" but more so with John not wanting to drop his 'Tough Guy' persona and start getting overly emotional with being reminded by Arthur... clearly we know this to be true when he tells Mary-Beth that "I think about him."
@tijslinssen59094 жыл бұрын

@kyeflint14 жыл бұрын
Obviously we know why it was put in that John doesn’t want to talk about Arthur because I’m the years to come he wasn’t actually part of the story but it’s kinda sad that he will honour arthur by killing Micah but yet won’t mention arthurs name again even though you can probably catch moment where John is alone when it’s quiet in the first game where it’s up to interpretation that he is thinking about arthur or imagining what arthur would do in his situation, especially when it comes to seeing bill Javier and dutch and his final moments in his barn before telling the people he cares for most to go and don’t look back before he gives his life so they could be free, in that moment especially I’d like to think he was thinking of the last thing arthur said to him “be a god damn man”
@Mk_Otaid4 жыл бұрын
I've given this a lot of thought and tried putting myself in John's shoes. Then I realized that knowing Micah, if given the chance he would try to hurt me or my family without me being able to do anything about it. If I had the ability to take him out and finally put my mind at ease I'd not let it go to waste. John as well as Arthur saw how Micah manipulated Dutch and in turn half of the remaining gang. Knowing that Micah wanted to bang my wife and probably even kill me in my sleep if he could, then I wouldn't risk leaving him be even if I had ways of continuously being informed of his whereabouts. Because who knows, since he ratted on the gang before, he could easily be hired to hunt me or my family down eventually. This is also proven by the events leading up to RDR1. Agents come looking for Micah and upon finding his corpse they make the connection to John. Even if he didn't work for the law at the time it's possible that he mentioned John to them at one time. So in that case the damage was already done. Any of the opposing members of the gang could pose a threat to John by that point as well. So once the law finds John in RDR1, he decides it's him or them (his old gang members). In the back of his head he knows that the law has no reason to not bring him down after his work is done, but then again he has no other choice.

Its obvious that just the mention of the name “Arthur” makes john choke up and shut down. You can see it anytime he talks about him with old gang members and strangers that knew him. Remember, this is 1907, men weren’t too keen on showing their emotions. Its easier to say: _”its in the the past, we left that behind”_ and keep it to yourself rather than to acknowledge that the loss of arthur probably hit him real hard and maybe even makes him feel guilty. John (and almost any man from that time period) didn’t have the mental insight to deal with that sort of loss in a healthy way. And honestly, i don’t think i would be able to talk about my brother all the time if he went out the same way Arthur did even in this time period. Giving his life so you can live yours, thats heavy shit man. The thought of leaving Arthur alone on that mountain has to be incredibly painful and traumatic for John even if it was in the best interest of his family.

Ok so when rockstar was working on rdr1 he already thought about his new character and his story that's actually true tho he was thinking about arthur story, soon when rdr1 was gonna be finish they thought about the character name ( arthur) but why doesn't John mention him if rockstar already was working on his new character?, that's why I kinda want him to remake rdr1 because so John talks about arthur more, and you get to visit arthur grave again and plus ain't John house near strawberry and Blackwater? , well in rdr1 John is supposed to be in Mexico right so? Who did his house get to Mexico? And I want John to talk about his old gang more and arthur too And at the end I want him and arthur spirit animal together like on a cliff or near John's house, I also kinda want to visit the camps again and John has like flashbacks or something idk... Idk it's just a thought I have 🤷♀️
@earlyjicama43024 жыл бұрын
They wouldn't have mentioned Arthur in RDR1 because RDR2 would have still be at the drawing board stage with the story no finalized or set in stone yet I anyway. As soo as they added details about it into RDR1 they would have been stuck with them and wouldn't have had as much artistic freedom to change their minds as RDR2 entered development. We know rockstar are whishy washy just based on how much they changed the RDR2 story even right before release

arthur morgan his house isn’t in Mexico, did you play rdr because it doesn’t sound like it. He has safe houses in Mexico when he’s chasing bill and Javier but in the end he returns to Beechers hope where he dies and John doesn’t have to have his whole character revolve around arthur. Also I doubt they had the next game planned out while working on rdr1 because they had enough issues getting that one out
