Hey Tavish! Great result, thanks for sharing! Could you explain, how did you make APC and Push focus on different channels independently? In my setup when I trigger a clip on any of the devices, another one switches to the triggered channel. Setting the "Select on Launch" setting to off doesn't help, because in this case if I play on push the APC40's knobs lose access to its channel. In your video, both controllers work independently and don't lose their focus on the channels.

Thanks Lucid! Glad you liked the video! :) I really enjoyed using them both together for this video, but just wanted to warn you that somehow it's not as freeing as I thought it would be. I can't select separate tracks on each controller so the knobs on the APC end up controlling what's selected on the Push. MIDI mapping the APC40 will remove the functionality of it. If there was some way of being able to select and control individual tracks on each controller then it would be absolutely incredible to use. I think it has to do with the fact that both send MIDI on the same channel and neither controller has the ability to change the default channel it uses.

Awesome work, I was just wondering if you are able to record these performances into live in the arrangement mode ? or how would you capture/record a performance like this?
@TavishMusicOfficial5 жыл бұрын
It depends on the track and video idea really... For tracks like this, recording into Arrangement doesn't work for me because I end up losing the ability to play notes on the Push, over the live looped clips once they've been recorded into Arrangement. I've been trying to get Ableton to fix this weird issue. For a performance like this, I only use Session View. I throw a channel record device onto the master channel and record the whole performance to a single WAV file. The downside is I can't edit individual tracks once the recording is done, but on the other hand, it allows me to play notes over an already playing loop in a particular channel. For my "Funk With D'Punk" video, the track and video idea was different, so that was recorded into Arrangement. I know it sounds confusing but I hope this helps! :)
@staypuffraps4 жыл бұрын
@@TavishMusicOfficial Channel record on the master is a great idea! I love the push 2, it does so much. Yet it still doesnt do everything hahaha. @TavishMusicOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Depends on your style and how comfortable you are with your gear really. Personally, I love the workflow with Ableton so getting the APC40 and then the Push 2 helped streamline something I was already comfortable and enjoyed working with. There's artists who do these jams totally DAW-less even. Comes down to personal preferences so I can't really say what would be better. If you like working with Ableton, then an APC 40 is a great first controller. Launchpad is ok but no knobs or sliders is a deal breaker for me. The Push 2 is more expensive but mine came bundled with Live 10 Suite so it was a great deal. Hope that helps! :)

@TavishMusicOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Hey Vladimir. That's a bit of a drawback at the moment. Selecting a track on one controller will have it selected on the other controller as well. What I did here was disable the "select on launch" option in the preferences. That way I could switch instruments on the Push and keep triggering percussion on the APC 40 without it changing to the track everytime I triggered a perc element. There is apparently a work around from isotonikstudios, that enables you to select different tracks on each controller, but I haven't looked into it yet. Hope that helps. Cheers!

They're controlling different banks of tracks - the Push's grid controls the melodic elements and the APC 40's grid is on the percussion. You should see two selection boxes around the clips in Ableton so you just move those around to the grid you want that controller to trigger. When it comes to individual tracks though, the knobs across both controllers, control the same selected track. Someone in the comments had mentioned a piece of software by Isotonik Studios that allows you to have both controllers select different tracks but I haven't been able to look into it yet. Hope that helps.

Hey Dorian... These are both MIDI controllers specifically geared for use with Ableton but you could MIDI map it for FL Studio I suppose. The APC 40 would be better/easier to map than the Push for sure but I wouldn't really recommend it. For FL Studio, something like the Akai Fire might be better since it's built for the DAW. Once you figure out the controller of choice it becomes another piece of gear on the table so I'm sure you could use it along with your DJ console. Doing that gave me much more control of the set rather than having two controllers on the same tracks. What I haven't been able to figure out yet is how to control tracks independently on each device. Still working that out at the moment! Hope that helps! I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Cheers! :)

@@TavishMusicOfficial Ehi man! nice work! i have the same issue using the same devices.. how can i use them independently? for instance i would like be able to keep playing an instrument on push while i launch a clip in a different instrument on apc40. is that possible?
@TavishMusicOfficial5 жыл бұрын
@@albertofavero3431 Its possible to use both sorta independently. Head to the Record, Warp, Launch tab in the preferences and disable "Select on Launch". This way, when you trigger a clip using the APC40, it won't select the channel on the Push2. You can still control a different instrument. That's what I did in this video. What I don't think is possible is to have both controlling two separate channels independently at the same time. Bit of a drawback I guess. Hope that helps! :)

Holy shit dude, this is like the best thing I've heard in a long time. Can you please make this into a real track? Maybe add some inspiring vocals on top!

Hey! Thanks a ton! So glad you liked the video... Haven't really tried mixing vocals before but might be worth a shot if I find a good vocalist! Thanks for the idea! Cheers!

Fucking excellent mate, I'm a big fan of this sort of ambient dance music. I think that's what I'd call it.

Thank you so much! So glad you liked the track! Yeah I guess it's sort of deep house meets ambient dance music. I've never been much of a stickler for genres so I never quite know where my music fits! 😊

I think it depends on your workflow. Get it only if you know why you need it. For me personally it's been fantastic! I use it all the time on almost every track I work on. Worth every penny!

can the APC40 MK1 fader do what the mk2 fader does in terms of assignA/B for Djing ? If so, how ?
@TavishMusicOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah the fader is to go between Deck A and Deck B. The difference is that the MK2 allows you to assign tracks to A or B directly from the controller, whereas with the MK1 you can fade between decks only if you've preselected them manually on the actual Ableton DAW. Hope that helps! :)

In my humble opinion. the over use of captions is abit um.... distracting, we ain't 5yo that need constant cartoons to be enticed. nice performance.
@TavishMusicOfficial4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Ron and glad you liked the track! The captions are sort of my way of interacting with viewers and explaining the process to people. A lot of my viewers are just getting started with Ableton and may not know what is happening with all the buttons and knobs so it's more for them. But I shall keep your advice in mind for the next one. Thanks! :)

@@TavishMusicOfficial Thanks for the captions. I disagree with Ron Tan, they definitely help me follow along.
