Coming back to this video today, because I had a really annoying thought. Push 3 was obviously announced, which can be standalone. Awesome. Ableton also has the ableton Note app. Ableton is in the perfect position to not only release their own Push Mini, but also a Push Mini “standalone”. If they added a little spot to hold your phone on the controller, then you could connect your phone with a little cable, and boom. Standalone Push Mini. Even more, it would be significantly more powerful than the circuit tracks, cause your phone is way more powerful. When you plug in the phone, ableton Note could change its display mode so it functions as a browser window, and navigation, and knob labeling and such. And then you can sync your project to the cloud, plug the push mini to your computer, and open the project. Just had to vent. I want ableton to do that so bad. Cause ableton note is actually a pretty cool app. But with a fully integrated controller it would be sick. Our phones are incredibly powerful, and I feel like companies could take better advantage of that, and instead of making a groove box with kinda eh software, they could make a cool controller with incredibly powerful software, cause the software runs on your phone

Hey Taetro, I have been using Circuit as a MIDI controller for quite a time now. I have also made my own Companion MIDI controller to go along with the Circuit to have a feel like I'm using a Push. I have a playlist on my channel on how I use my Circuit. Just in case if u get time. 😊

Launchpad pro 3 does exactly what you are talking about, but it has 4 sequencers not 2, plus Note and chord modes. It's not so mini though, but plays very nice.

Coming back after a year w Tracks and Push. Not sure if fourths mode is somehow proprietary to Ableton but - I’ve learned both and agree. Having a fourths mode update would massively be valuable to Circuit tracks users 👍

Well, again as you said, push is 5 years old. When it came out it was revolutionary. It's big because it's really for live performance, hence Ableton live. Nobody is going to go, wow look at that tiny little pad thing. When you pull out push 2 there going to be like "damn son, where did you park your space ship?" Plus with it's screen you can actually see what you are selecting. The pads aren't tiny as hell. It's bulid quality makes it a great self defense weapon and could probably stop a bullet. If you're buying something that expensive, you're probably a legit musician so you're most likely going to buy a deck saver and a DJ back pack or case for it and not some back pack from pacsun or ccs skate shop. But if they had a mini version, that would be a marvel in it's self.

Great ideas Taetro! I haven't bought a Push 2 yet because of the lack of portability and I haven't bought Circuit Tracks because of lack of Ableton integration. I'd really like to see an actual Portable Push Mini with 32 RGB pads and a smaller screen but if they upped Circuit Tracks to have the same level of DAW integration that would be an appealing option especially since it's also a standalone groovebox. Also I can't believe they don't have a 4ths mode in Tracks!!!

I would love to see a video putting the Push 2 up against the Launchpad pro mk3 and the Launch Control xl. The 2 Novation controllers cost less than $500 together, and while the Push comes perfectly integrated with Ableton out of the box, I feel like the 8 pages of faders and knobs on the Launch Control + the daw control functionalities on the Launchpad pro give you a lot more control over the software, especially on a live performance setting.

@@lanceholland the 2 devices are apples and oranges though really, tracks is more for people that want out of the box (aka daw-less) tools, and a lot of people who would go for that are already used to integrating multiple bits of hardware into their process. besides that launchpad pro has a sequencer, they are basically different categories of products i think.

Hey Teatro. Pretty sure Novation simply doesn't want to make Tracks into an Ableton controller. Who'd still buy one of their launch products if you get a Launchpad with buttons AND a whole groovebox with the Circuit line.? Their fear of cannibalisation is also why the sample playback capabilities of the Tracks are so idiotically limited: they need to set it apart from the Rhythm.

The one thing i wish my tracks had (which will likely be available on the Rhythm, if not something they could even update with firmware later) is being able to change start point of a sample, but more ableton integration with the tracks while keeping its current functions would make the price be close to push 2 anyway, no? Not to mention they have already slimmed it down a lot from the original circuit, with even more functionality already. Adding a screen, plus whatever internals would be needed to support the screen and ableton, I feel like we would kinda come halfway between Push and Tracks in both size and price. I understand the appeal of Push 2 though, for those 'crate digger' types that want the aesthetic and functionality of an all in one MPC style unit that still want to use a computer. For those that just need a nice small pad keyboard and controller for anything besides chopping samples though, launchpad mini is like $100 now? launchpad x like $180? tl;dr: Id personally love this dream machine youre talking about as well, but seems like a lot to ask with a reasonable price tag. But also I dont know shit, maybe if this video gets enough traction before they decide to update Push again they will release a half-size option too and I will have you to thank for that 😅 www.synthanatomy.com/2020/09/ableton-push-3-leak-standalone-groovebox-midi-controller.html

On the circuit you can program steps in to button combinations. This means you can create old finger style chords per pad meaning you can easily program a progression into 4-6 pads. The sound test room, a long time ago I think, showed the circuit as a mini controller and thats the thing I pulled from it.

Yeah, you can have literally multiple reasons, for this type of "rant" lol Going straight into it, since you already use it, if it's software related issue, it can be easily resolved with an update on the host. On the other hand, hardware is usually built with specific integration in mind, so.... since this is purely a consumer product, wait for the next one to come out. These are of course, soft viewpoints... I personally know few guys (including one girl) that are hardcore, and change or rebuild what they have, to better suit their purpose lol

I've been trying to work around this myself... I tried mapping the Tracks' play/record buttons to Ableton but it just causes a ton of issues. I think one of the technical issues is that if you press play on Ableton, it basically restarts your "song", while the play button pauses the song on the Tracks, causing a conflict. I would love better integration, but I'm not holding my breath. Even just being able to sync tempo from one to the other would be a game changer. Probably possible but I couldn't figure it out.
