in the years since finding out about this guy ive read and watched everything i could and i can tell you now, he was a nutcase and a liar. his own friends said he used to laugh at getting away with dumping sewage out the back illegally. an agreement he broke when he purchased the place. he wasnt unaware, he just decided to break it. the city gave him 12 years i think to fix it and even offered to install a septic tank for cheap. he refused. his shop was never going to be cut off access wise. he had other incomes from other businesses he owned... he was not in any way in financial trouble. if he was so annoyed he could have sold the place, made a huge profit, had enough money to retire probably and lived off his other incomes, he even inherited his dads money. end of the day, he convinced himself of these crazy wrong doings and talked himself into some religious insanity and expended a huge amount of money and effort to be destructive, when he could have just walked away with fistfuls of cash. he was just a loonie.

@slickstrings2 жыл бұрын
@Roon oh you think i just made it all up? Well ive done the research out of interest. You havnt. Here is a brief run down to cure your ignorance. Marvin bought the property which did not have a sewer line. The sewer line was not cut off. It never had one. He began illegally discharging sewage out the back. He laughed about how he was getting away with it to his friends. This went on for years. The town finally told him to fix it, either by connecting to town sewer or by septic tanks. He refused. The concrete plant even offered to assist by letting him run it through their property. He refused. He got fined. Derrp. Concrete plant wants to expand. Offers to buy his property. He agreed, then raises the price. They agree, he raises the price. This happened several times. They got sick of him stuffing them around and bought the property next door. Marvin, angry that he didnt get his way began trying to legally prevent the expansion. Making lots of claims. These claims were rejected, by the town, marvin loses his mind, concludes that he is on a mission from god, sells the property for a massive profit, then spends a year of his life building a dozer to destroy the town. He spent 12 years knowingly breaking the law by dumping raw sewage and had many options and lots of time to correct it. He NEVER lost access to his shop. That was a lie. His livelihood was never threatened and when he went on his rampage, he attempted to shoot several people, only missing them by luck, probably due to the difficulty inside that thing. He was not trying to avoid killing. Thats another internet whitewash. Ive listened to all his 2.5 hours of rambling tapes. He was a nutcase who convinced himself of his own delusions and funnily enough, never talks about losing access to his property. This is the reality. Just because you want to think he was some wrong done hero doesn not change the actual factual events. Deal with it.

The guy that owned the concrete plant was part of a larger family that was basically considered "old money" in Granby while Marvin had moved there only recently. This family in particular (Dokachev I think??) owned several businesses in the town and had seats on the city council. They were the driving force behind the issues Marvin had with the town and it finally drove him to what he called righteous fury. Concrete as a business is basically run by local cartels simply by its nature. Due to the restrictions on distance each area needs a local concrete plant so any new companies already face stiff competition you can’t just find an area without one locally and set up shop like you can in basically any other industry. Add on the fact that any and all modern construction uses large amounts of the stuff and you have VERY powerful people passing on VERY entrenched businesses to their kids who are VERY used to getting their way.

I applaud the man for sticking up for himself. Imagine having bought land you didn't even really want, then having someone build a factory right off of said land, blocking any way for someone to get to your business. Then, they shut down your water and plumbing, and somehow the government sees that as your fault. Billing you for something that you couldn't control. All the while trying your hardest to get what you need and make changes within the bounds of the law that itself is screwing you. He was a man that was pushed beyond his limit, he did what he thought was right. For having the brains and courage to do what he did is something I greatly respect.

This man had the potential to harm others directly via his onboard weapons; he killed none other than himself. This man had the power to destroy nearly everything in the city; his targets were clear as were the reasons for. He could have done this when the plant was first approved 3 years prior; he tried everything else first. This man resorted to the use of construction equipment to destroy the property of those whom wronged him, and ONLY those that did. He caused millions of dollars in damage, similar to the major loss of revenue for his shop. This man justifications, while extreme, can be understood. This man has earned my respect; as much as I love my country, the sight of corruption makes me sick, especially when one fights back peacefully but fails to get their justice. This story should not necessarily be a call to make a bunch of armored bulldozers and destroy a bunch of stuff (although that WOULD be cool), but a call to stand up when those in power try and abuse us, and to put our foot down and let them know we are not inferior; we are their equal. I'm listening to his tapes now, and the harshest part of all this is that he didn't buy the land for himself. He had purchased it for a friend of his, but then that friend backed down and he was stuck with it, so he just figured he'd make his shop there on the land. Also, apparently he wanted to be caught building the dozer. He thought it would be a sign that he didn't have to go on his rampage. He figured that if he was meant to be stopped, he would be, and that wherever the dozer was stopped, that was where God meant it to stop.
@literallyshaking80193 жыл бұрын
There’s something to that “God didn’t want him to be stopped” mentality. I picked up on this when I watched the documentary “Tread” (which is on KZbin and is fantastic with lots of rare photos and accounts of Marvin). At the beginning of his “rampage” the guy who owned the concrete plant right next to Marvins shop, and who his main beef was with, noticed the Killdozer breaking out of the shop and heading towards the batch plant that had just been built. He had a similar sized bulldozer on site and figured he’d jump in it to try and block Marvin (which would’ve ended it right then and there before any damage could be done) but in his own words on tape, he kept trying to jump up into it and kept falling like it was covered in oil or Vaseline, and after a couple attempts he gave up and then got in a much smaller loader which ended up being far too light to do anything and he backed off. To me that could definitely be interpreted as “divine intervention”

If I had to guess, like many rural towns, the local Masons run the show. Most businesses are owned by a lodge brother, and it's not uncommon for many of the municipal officials to be a members as well. This includes law enforcement. The local media, such as newspapers, TV/radio stations are, if not owned; monitored by them. Also, almost all the town's water council will be headed by a member. In the town I'm from, they reached all the way into the school system. With only a few exceptions, every male employee in my school was a Mason. Principal, teachers, coaches, and administration were from the local, or a neighboring town lodge. There was even a scandal. Apparently, one of the administrators used school funds on a trip to Vegas. At first, the only repercussions he was faced was paid suspension. Only when the parents in PTA meeting started bringing in outside news organizations, is when they finally terminated him. But, in legal regards, he should've went to prison for misappropriation of funds and misuse of position. The story quickly disappeared. Bound by oath, they look out for each other. And being a Mason, they have many political connections. If any outsider, such as Marvin, crosses one; he is crossing many. This story and it's characters (business owners,police, courts officials, the water council enforcing the sewage regulations, and even the newspaper editor, etc) parallels a town with Masonic oversights.

"Let us all be brave enough to die the death of a martyr, but let no one lust for martyrdom." Gandhi, Man of Peace. Marvin was an honest man who was driven to do what was necessary and not what he selfishly desired. All his pleads for reason were ignored and after being pushed down to the point where he was about to be crushed, he decided to push back. Not with his hands but with a huge armored Killdozer that would destroy everything in its path. This man would have been a national hero if not for the money loving criminals and their media portraying him as a lunatic.

They'd be better off with a excavator for agility of the arm (though loss of speed would make it easy to outrun or avoid the machine) or another dozer like a D6 to overpower it.

This was the ultimate example of "punching up" A corrupt city council in bed with a business, to exercise shady re-zone tactics, both conspiring to make blue-collar man's life a living hell. Cutting off his sewer and water, then FINING HIM for it? That's all I needed to hear to sympathize with Marvin.
