I love how even if we toss aside all biological facts on why this is totally stupid and wrong for a second, we can bring in chemistry. The things they say "stick to you" via magnetic attraction aren't even magnetic themselves. Kitchen metals are almost always austenitic stainless steel. Stainless steel mixed with Nickel rending it non magnetic. You CAN however make things stick to your body for a brief moment if you have the right amount of moisture on your skin. You have to use the right pressure and friction force, but you can get things to stick for a second. There is no magnetic force involved though. Just friction.

For why these people tend to be parents, I think that comes down to the role a parent has in society - They're effectively the monarchs of their own mini family-sized kingdoms, where they make up all the rules and, for the most part, the rules don't _truly_ apply to them. I think this leads to an increased risk of some parents developing some kind of complex, where they can't handle being questioned and they don't feel they need to think things through critically. For example, any parent could at any moment decide that all of a sudden, the colour pink is banned from their house. No one has the authority to question it, so everyone living in that house has to abide by that random nonsensical rule - Except the parents. If the parents find a new jacket they like that happens to be pink, there is realistically nothing stopping them from just buying it. Sure, it might be a rule, but they are the sole enforcers of that rule, so realistically it doesn't apply to them. Most parents can handle this I'm sure, but there's definitely a massive amount that go mad with this little snippet of power and turn in to the psychos we see at school board meetings.
