@HonkHonkler

It's not accurate, but it's a Disney animated film for children, so it doesn't matter. The ACTUAL tales in Greek Mythology are not something for 5 years old to be learning yet. They're fucking cool, but not things 5 year olds need to know at their age.

I agree with how much you liked Meg and Herc together and fun fact, this is one of the few disney canon ships where the woman is older. It's also one of the larger age gaps in Disney. Hercules was supposed to be about 16/17 at the start of the film and 18 at the end after the training. Meg is in her 20s

Considering she talks down to him a little it does at least sound like she’s older, but the question is by how much. Since she appears in the episode of the show “The Anatolian Amphora” and appears to be a high school contemporary of Herc’s, the “age gap” may be more of an experience gap.

The first thing she says to him is move on junior 😂 now I don’t know whether she’s stuck in her 20s and is probably a century older than Herc or she’s actually just few years older than him. The best part of the movie was Meg, but the way they made Hades a bad guy in this was so infuriating because he's basically the least problematic god out of all of them, and one of the only gods that *didn't* participate in a takeover of Olympus against Zeus in Greek Mythology. That's not even the least of how inaccurate it is when looking at Greek mythology, but if I talked about everything I'd get into ranting and I don't really feel like typing out a rant rn
@JuanitoEsBonito

@maem7462
@maem7462 2 жыл бұрын
@@JuanitoEsBonito I think that was partly the choice. I always think Hades already had a bad representation b4 this bc some ppl were like he’s the God of the underworld and works with dead souls he must kill ppl which isn’t true. Also maybe it was a bit of some Catholic and Christian ppl learning abt Hades being God of the underworld and they likely thought of the underworld that’s under ppl and associated that with Hell and thereby associated Hades as being similar to the devil. I think k with Zeus they were like oh he’s in the sky so it must be like heaven so they praised him when Zeus doesn’t deserve the praise he gets

The hilarious thing is that in actual mythology, Hades was the nicest of the gods. Also, the original story of Heracles(Hercules) is VERY tragic and I can see why Disney took the route that they did and changed so much to make it happy. One thing to know about this movie is that is basically has no consistency with the original Greek myth. They even got the name wrong, in Ancient Greece he was called Heracles, named after Hera in an attempt at appeasing her since he was the product of one of Zeus’s many extramarital trysts. He was called Hercules in Ancient Rome.

As a major fan of Classical Mythology, this film and I have such a love-hate relationship. They have enough obscure references that it is obvious they did the research, but so many glaring flaws that it is also clear they didn't care to be accurate. For the best, I suppose, the actual myth of Hercules is FAR from family oriented (he got his first murder in as a kid when he smashed his lute over his music teacher's head, for starters... not counting the multiple rapes, pillages, beating his own wife and kids to death, multiple sex partners of both main genders that they were *not* putting in a 90s film, etc)

I didn't love this movie when it first came out. Always a Aladdin guy myself. But especially now with the lack of male Disney leads in animation you sometimes gotta revisit those older movies to get good representation when you have none currently. I personally don't love Meg, but I do like her song. Again Jasmine was where it was at for me. Best song is I can go the distance for me. It's a banger. I won't say i'm in love is very catchy though

Everyone talking about how they made Hades a villain when he's not, let's talk about Hera and how she was the one who tried to kill Hercules.

"Only gods can live on mount Olympus." Incorrect in both real mythology and within the canon of disney's version.

Hercules' singing voice was actually provided by Roger Bart. It was originally supposed to be Josh Keaton, the speaking voice of teenage Hercules but they recorded over it with Roger Bart

So I know the Scar pelt was traumatizing, but it's accurate to the myth in a sense. Hercules defeated a lion and did wear it's pelt, they just threw Scar in as a reference to their other movie. Disney did that even back then lol

"Literally watching this entire movie for this moment." Literally watching this entire reaction for the SAME, girl! It's the only thing about the movie I remember, but I fell in love with the song (and with Meg) instantly. PS Sorry about my "basic" name, lol
