I do love Meg’s whole storyline. It’s so interesting and complex especially for a Disney movie. The mythology aspect might’ve helped with that being complex but idk for sure if that portion was accurate to the mythology or not
@HonkHonkler2 жыл бұрын
It's not accurate, but it's a Disney animated film for children, so it doesn't matter. The ACTUAL tales in Greek Mythology are not something for 5 years old to be learning yet. They're fucking cool, but not things 5 year olds need to know at their age.

I agree with how much you liked Meg and Herc together and fun fact, this is one of the few disney canon ships where the woman is older. It's also one of the larger age gaps in Disney. Hercules was supposed to be about 16/17 at the start of the film and 18 at the end after the training. Meg is in her 20s

Considering she talks down to him a little it does at least sound like she’s older, but the question is by how much. Since she appears in the episode of the show “The Anatolian Amphora” and appears to be a high school contemporary of Herc’s, the “age gap” may be more of an experience gap.

The best part of the movie was Meg, but the way they made Hades a bad guy in this was so infuriating because he's basically the least problematic god out of all of them, and one of the only gods that *didn't* participate in a takeover of Olympus against Zeus in Greek Mythology. That's not even the least of how inaccurate it is when looking at Greek mythology, but if I talked about everything I'd get into ranting and I don't really feel like typing out a rant rn
@JuanitoEsBonito2 жыл бұрын
I think it was just disneys strategy yknow they gotta make someone bad and given the fact that it's mainly a child audience picking the guy associated with death and the underworld was the first choice.
@maem74622 жыл бұрын
@@JuanitoEsBonito I think that was partly the choice. I always think Hades already had a bad representation b4 this bc some ppl were like he’s the God of the underworld and works with dead souls he must kill ppl which isn’t true. Also maybe it was a bit of some Catholic and Christian ppl learning abt Hades being God of the underworld and they likely thought of the underworld that’s under ppl and associated that with Hell and thereby associated Hades as being similar to the devil. I think k with Zeus they were like oh he’s in the sky so it must be like heaven so they praised him when Zeus doesn’t deserve the praise he gets

As a major fan of Classical Mythology, this film and I have such a love-hate relationship. They have enough obscure references that it is obvious they did the research, but so many glaring flaws that it is also clear they didn't care to be accurate. For the best, I suppose, the actual myth of Hercules is FAR from family oriented (he got his first murder in as a kid when he smashed his lute over his music teacher's head, for starters... not counting the multiple rapes, pillages, beating his own wife and kids to death, multiple sex partners of both main genders that they were *not* putting in a 90s film, etc)
