I think he's on the right path, but, personally, I think his choice of the word "pre-production" is strange. "Pre-production" implies getting your ideas together and assembling a team. Once a team is working, it's all "production" in my mind. Not to get hung up on symantics -- who cares, really, but I would perhaps call it the "prototyping" phase.

Why the fuck publishers don't use this for new IP?
@TheSean949 жыл бұрын
+adrixshadow This is an old method of software development. It was at the beginning of the agile method and he is talking about the waterfall method which is not used as much nowadays. Developers mostly use agile approach now as they have to meet milestones for the project manager and if something goes wrong they can simply revert back to a previous state of the game and try new things on the fly. Waterfall approach is for people who know exactly what they want the end goal to be.
@adrixshadow9 жыл бұрын
Sean O' Connor That is not even remotely the same. It is not that complicated at all. Have a dedicated team on prototype and research duty before they sink millions of dollars in content. There has barely been any new IP in ages and whatever new IP was trash. Whatever they are using it is not this.

Sony didn't have the 'Will to Kill' Media Molecules Dreams. Nor clearly did the team follow this method hehe. They had to restart production so many times because they failed to finalise the key technology and moved into production while still prototyping. What a sales disaster. And honestly its a great product for a few people, but making games its fucked in one area - programming logic. Its terrible and can't support a lot of key gaming concepts.
@mutalix4 жыл бұрын
Aaaaayyy Dreams is great! I can't wait to see what happens on PS5!! I even hear rumblings of a paid content for creators to sell their creations. But who knows yea? Still I cant tell you how amazing Dreams is, but I'm not Sony nor am I a dev, so I dunno if this game/project is sustainable or good business-wise, as a player I love it!
