Accepted Art School Portfolio! (SVA, Art Center, Pratt, SAIC, MICA)

Sorry the audio quality is all over the place, I recorded some with voice memos iOS and some with cap cut mobile and some on my laptop, and I started editing before I recorded the whole script. Terrible production process, right? It gets way clearer at the end, I promise!

i got rejected from SAIC and sva animation (accepted for everything else) but accepted for pratt. i didnt know before that i had to actually work on my portfolio but im really hoping ringling accepts me for computer anim after talking with an admissions counselor. your portfolio is great and i might make a video showing mine too!

Thank you, I look forward to seeing yours! The rejections are rough, but keep your head up! As long as the credits are transferable between programs, you might be able to finish your degree in a better school than you started! Just make sure to talk to officials in both schools. Ringling's Computer Animation program is more selective than SVA's 2D Animation program, so if you applied to that with the same portfolio, I sadly can't give you much hope :( If you've been offered entry into other majors at SVA, 3D animation is also great! I share my drawing class with some 3D students and it looks like they're advancing pretty quickly (and they're also cool ppl)! Remember, at the end of the years, the school on your resume won't matter. Your portfolio and experience will show your true ability to employers!

(my favourite snack food is probably ruffles' cheese and sour cream chips those are great heck yeah) thank you for sharing your portfolio, your pieces look really great - i especially liked the one at 1:11! if you don't mind, could you expand a bit on the SVA honors program? specifically the timed essay - what kind of prompt did you get (like was it creative writing or analytical writing) and was it done on-campus? I couldn't find much information about this essay while researching about the honors application, so i'm a bit confused ^^' congratulations on all the schools you got accepted into!

Thank you, I’m happy to share! The timed essay was an argumentative essay that we had 2 hours to complete. It was held in a classroom specified on the SVA website. I think the prompt we got was about the effects of social media use on teenagers, and we had to argue our position on this matter using evidence from the texts that were provided. If you’ve taken an AP English class, particularly Language and Composition, this will be easy for you! They just do this to prove that you have a good enough grasp on writing and reading comprehension to handle all the complex literature that honors classes have you read. I also experienced a lack of info when applying and getting oriented in SVA, so just know you aren’t alone in that 😅 SVA isn’t the best at getting everyone on the same page. Other students are great resources. If you can join a discord server run by more senior students, pls do! They offered more guidance and information than my advisors did :/ I’d be happy to answer more questions, if you have any! ^^ Ok, huge infodump over. Cheese ruffles and sour scream chips are also some of my favs :p

Hello! Sorry for the question, I'm trying to practice so that I can apply for a scholarship in the future for SVA, the thing is that I'm not from the United States, so I don't understand well how scholarships work over there, I was wondering, is the scholarship you were offered complete? Per year they give you that amount or is it all they give you for 4 years of studies, do you have to make additional costs? (without considering and leaving aside the part of the accommodation, among others.)

No problem, I’d be happy to answer your question! The scholarship I received from SVA was a partial scholarship that they offered me because of the quality of my work. When I say I got a $70,000 scholarship, that was the total amount, meaning it will be divided among my 4 years there. You pay tuition to SVA per semester, so each bill I received, $8,750 were taken off of the price of the semester’s tuition. There is an additional fee in the first semester of the first year, and the price of that depends on which major you choose. That’s the extent of what I know, I hope it made sense! I’d be happy to clarify or answer more questions, if you have them!
