I'm glad I found this video. My power steering is leaking fluid like crazy. I fill it up and it's moaning again 2 days later. I will tackle it this weekend. I'm hopeful the high pressure hose dry rotted and I don't have to replace the pump itself. I can't isolate because everything down there is soaked. The low pressure is dry.
@H3Humper Жыл бұрын
Best wishes on your repair. I strongly suggest cutting the low pressure return line hose off the nipple instead of trying to pull it off (the nipple breaks incredibly easy and the reservoir no longer for sale).

Dylan, Where were you man? I just had to do this to my 2006 last week lol ! The pump blew at 99,000 mi and something happened that I wanted to share. The Oil pressure switch directly below the pump became saturated with PS fluid rendering the switch destroyed. At idle I had alarms and oil lights going off in the cab. As soon as I applied throttle the oil light and alarm went away. I now have the pressure switch on the list to do next. For now I have the cable unplugged to the pressure switch and there have been no undesired effects. I just have to check the oil more often for peace of mind. Great video!
@H3Humper3 жыл бұрын
What a coincidence haha, and having the oil pressure switch fail due to fluid penetration really stinks! Thank you for sharing your helpful knowledge 🤓 Hopefully your discovery will help others avoid the same issue. Thank you!

Keep these coming! I just got a new exhaust manifold that I'm gonna replace myself. I might also need to replace my oil pump. (subliminally suggesting future video ideas😂.) Also, where you got rear ended is where my bumper is also dented in from when I bought it. Exact spot.
@H3Humper3 жыл бұрын
I sure will 🤓 Thank you for your encouragement! A new exhaust manifold is sweet, for sure. I'll add those to the list! I've heard the driver's side of the rear bumper often features the dented in spot lol. I think it's because we don't have a shackle on that side to intercept the impacts! Once the insurance company finally pays me the rest of what I'm owed, I think I'll make a video on "H3 driver's side rear bumper dent removal" haha

~$500.00 savings by DIY, thanks for posting these valuable gems! Just swapped my pump out, three bolts and two hoses, easy peasy! For me, removing the air filter box was time well spent, it provides easy access to do the job. As H3Humper mentions, be very careful with the low-pressure return nipple, it is fragile. I tried using my pully puller, with the potential of distorting the pully, I opted to borrow the puller as described in this video. While you're in there might as well consider replacing the belt, tensioner, and deglossing the coolant pump pully with a 3M pad, to avoid that annoying belt chearp. Question/observation, I flushed the system about the same timeframe that H3Humper posted his tutorial, and now I have replaced the pump about the same timeframe... any correlation / causation? I will never know, the pump lasted 160K miles, I would say I got plenty of life from the original.
@H3Humper3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark 😎 Doing things at home sure can save some money! Removing the air filter box is an awesome tip. Next time I have my belt off, I'll have to de-gloss the water pump pulley like you suggest. I once bent a power steering pully really bad with a pully puller (the three-claw type) and ever since then I just take a little extra time to run to the parts store for the puller/installer... I will only make that mistake once haha. Trying to find those replacement pulleys can be a chore! Thanks for sharing your helpful info. Odd coincidence and/or result from the flush! Hopefully this one lasts you the life of the vehicle.

Not sure what to do with my power steering system. It only makes noise when driving. Like when you barely adjust the wheel to stay in your lane I makes noise. Can you do a quick video on loosening the tightener and removing the belt? Love your videos!

Still having a leak really stinks, especially after replacing the o-ring. I broke mine off and luckily still found a whole assembly in stock at the time. The H3's are going obsolete with the declining parts availability. They'll be collector's soon haha.
@georgecobos86559 ай бұрын
No joke. Along with my 01 Tahoe that I still drive I don't think I'll let go of them anytime soon. From what I saw in the description the Colorado assembly is compatible correct just as long as I get the pulley with it as well?

@georgecobos8655 yes, to my understanding the pulley is the only additional thing needed to make it work on the H3's. Let me know if it works for you and if there is anymore relevant information to add to the description.

There is a Edelmann power steering on Rock Auto part number 6122PR that comes with the reservoir and pulley. I have a leak on the reservoir but it’s been discontinued and I’m looking for alternatives.

Hello Carlos, you've had those Hummers from the start! Very nice 👌 I recommend checking all ground connection. I take a small piece of sand paper to the mating surfaces of the grounds and reconnect them. Checking all the wiring under the engine bay for cuts or bare wires is a good option, too.
