Excellent video! Always appreciate to be more educated on gear than before!! I took my ACH and took a fine tooth jigsaw to cut the ears/wings off to make my own high-cut. I traced out where the rails fit , when I was done I took some U-Channel weatherstrip (recommended by the owner of Kustom ACH) to seal up the edge, the helmet itself was a Gentex which is the ops core parent company so at least it was quality. It was way more (budget friendly) than spending over a grand on an actual Ops-core, I refuse to buy a Chinese helmet just because you don't really know the quality standards it went through before it comes to you. I was really happy with my finished product when completed, I got a Velcro kit for it , new bungees, mil-spec NVG single bolt mount, Wendy dial retention harness, etc !! Hope everyone had a Good 4th July !!

I have the 4D helmet pads for my issued ACH, and they are very nice and comfortable. They do have the issue of being very stiff in colder weather, though. I wouldn't recommend them if you're going to be in a long term cold environment, unless you like brick for pads.

Great video. Any recommendations on mounting comm headsets to ACH/ECH or MICH style helmets? I’ve heard from one person that the opscore AMP helmet mounting system will work for low cut helmets but haven’t seen any videos or pictures that prove that.
@LegionPreparedness3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t seen anything, but I’ve alway worn the peltors under my helmet ach and high cut to run lights, masks, and accessories on the rails. I would recommend finding softer pads for a more comfortable fit.

@@archerslovecross1240 I personally don't care for them I've always had issues with them snagging on the chin strap
@jouninraz Жыл бұрын
The trick with low cut helmets is going up 1 size to get the comms to fit. The issue isn't so much the head band, but the ear cups being too thick, making contact with the helmet. By going up a size, it gives the ear cups more room to expand outward.

@@LegionPreparedness I agree, as long as the kit setup is covered on the SOP. For example, PVT Gumby and PFC Schmuck can both have different plate carriers (Crye, Spiritus Systems, Haley Strategic, etc.), as long as they follow the proper guidelines for pouch placement and overall setup. In addition, I would not allow soldier’s to purchase just any old products. There would be a roster sheet of approved manufactures for different types of equipment/accessories. Same as we have approved rucksacks and helmets for airborne operations.
@LegionPreparedness2 жыл бұрын
@@JR_ST I agree for the most part. Having a certified list of companies SM are expected to purchase from is a good starting point. I've seen both the navy and the airforce do this. Why the Army is still behind the power curve is beyond me. As far as airborne ops go I'll just say this. I've done it all static line, free fall, paragliding, and paramotoring. The way the military conduct that skill set really blows my mind and frustrates me.

Thank you so much for this informative video. I have an old MICH helmet that I've been wanting to modernize a bit. Other than DLP arc rails I'm also interested in the Opscore arc rails, but i see so many selections. So I'm wondering would any of their rails work on this type of helmet? Or is there a specific model that they have for this helmet? I do not want to end up buying something that will not fit correctly on my helmet. Thank you in advance

I picked up the rails, but what size screws did you throw on there?
@LegionPreparedness3 жыл бұрын
The straight to the point answer you have to take the helmet and all the components to the store to get the right size screw. The long answer is I don’t know to be honest. I was in Germany when I bought the rails and screws. Unfortunately Germany doesn’t have any stores like ACE when it comes to specialty screws so trying to find them Is difficult. I would recommend taking the helmet to ACE and finding the screw that will best fit based on the dimensions of the chin strap or harness system connection points, Kevlar thickness, and rails. This way you get the exact measurement you need cause those will change depending on the products and materials used. I could run the same helmet setup across 4 helmets but need different fasteners and screws for each depending on the equipment. I wish It was a one size fits all answer but there’s so many ways you can setup a helmet it can change the screw length and type 10 times if not more

I wanna say this was my 9th or 10th attempt recording the video and I was in a full send make it happen mood. But there's so much that can be done with that helmet and configuring it on a budget or with a limitless budget. There was more content than to talk about than I anticipated. I could have made the video around 45 min. My primary concern and intent was demonstrating that you don't need to go all out on a helmet you can set the ACH/ECH up to be fully mission capable on a budget.

DLP tactical is chinese airsoft kit
@LegionPreparedness3 жыл бұрын
It is and I’m not always keen on some of those companies but these rails for the price are pretty nice, easy to find, in stock and ordering, and delivery is simple and the quality seems to be above most airsoft products and companies. It’s one of the few I would say is okay for purchase. Most of the other companies such as Galvion, opscore, team Wendy, mtek are only building rails specific to their high cut helmets and the ops core ACH rails pop up on their rail list but availability can come and go and they are right around the 120 dollar mark. Just trying to give people options so they can pic and choose what they want. I know a handful of guys that have put in a little money to make their ACH more functional but that little investment is minimal and then they purchase a high cut that has all the accessories. The unfortunate part is some commands and leaders refuse to let their guys run the better because of “uniformity” instead of thinking what will enable my force to be more capable Those are some of the barriers I’m fight through so SM’s can set their kit up to enable themselves and their units/organizations
