This is the origin of that guy. It makes sense he moved from animals to bad guys as you put it to supers. That's a normal trajectory that is easy to follow. From animals to Spiderman is a huge jump.

It was the same with Morbius and Black Adam, and a little with Venom and some others. Black Adam was more because Dwayne Johnson has some agreement where he refuses to play a bad guy and got obsessed with the character, whereas Sony seems to have a general obsession with turning villains 'complicated' or turning them into antiheroes. If anything, I think it would've made this a more interesting film concept if he was just some obsessed hunter who wants a bigger challenge but has no real moral issue
