i just shot a pistol at a range about a month ago, i was shocked how terrible we all did. when they set the target up for about 20 feet away i thought, "well thats kinda silly to be so close". 2 of the 3 of us had a hard time hitting the paper at all, at first. about 200 rounds each and 5 hours later we were finely getting good groups. no one was shooting back at us, and we were taking our time, it was an eye opening experience. i have plenty of rifle experience, but thats not even close to the same level of skill needed when compared to hand guns.

Yes, my experience qualifying for a handgun license was similar. Handguns require skill and practice to be truly effective. I would never use a pistol as a home defense firearm when you could just grab a rifle or shotgun from a safe. You're trading off a long gun's ease of use for the portability of a handgun, so they only make sense to be used for concealed carry when you're out of the house.

I tell people this all the time , my buddy got some land out in grass valley we go shooting all the time. And we had set up targets from 50 yard all the way to 200 yard steel target. With rifles we got I gotten so dialed with my AR but the day I brought out my first handgun. It was spring field .45 XD and couldn’t hit a target from 25 yards out. Same thing. And I was so pissed bc I was able to hit anything with the rifles but it really is a whole different ball game. Specially when you have a moving target. Who is also possibly shooting back. So ppl think they buy a gun and just will turn into John wick and hit everything that moves is just unrealistic. You gotta train and practice , just like anything else.
@jasonbrown46710 ай бұрын
@@smacksmack8202 exactly. since we were little kids have have been brainwashed to think you can whip out your pistol and hip fire 20 yard shots and land on target every time. from cartoons, tv shows, movies, video games. we even had a game we played as kids that we called "guns" where we all had this plastic guns and would run around shooting stuff and each other, and of course we neve missed. so now when i see 20 cops shooting at one bad guy and they all keep missing, now i understand why

Fundamentally, the bad guys get the guns in the same way the citizens at large get the guns. And if necessary, the bad guys steal from the good guys, which such a glut of the things available everywhere only makes all the easier. And don't ever forget that some citizens start out law abiding and then aren't. It's simplistic thinking to compartmentalize into immutable, exclusive categories the 'good guy' and the 'bad guy.' Finally, what does it say when, in spite of the 2A, America has so many gun deaths per capita, utterly eclipsing the rates of nearly every other country that's not already descended into anarchy? Can anyone in good faith say something so stupid as that those guns actually help to save lives? It doesn't take a PHD in math to see the simple, linear equation: more guns = more gun deaths. And just owning a gun actually increases the chance of death or injury via a high velocity lead injection. (In the way that keeping a venomous snake increases the chance of snake bite.) Other countries have figured this out, adopting sensible solutions that have had a real, measurable impact. To the satisfaction of their citizenry. Yet America stubbornly, obstreporously denies reality and suffers mass shootings so often the nation has become numb to the carnage. What is it, a toll in blood and souls to the tune of something like 50,000 per year for the thrill of having a killing tool? A half a million per decade. Including classrooms of school kids. It's insanity on a mass scale.

You buy the gun in state and the part out of state or just go to North Carolina and buy whatever you need at a gun show. It’s been this way for years criminals have been using the south as a gunstore/profit center.

Yea why have laws if people can break them? If laws can’t magically prevent things from happening, what’s the point? 🙄 Would you argue this about any other law. What’s the point of speed limits, if it doesn’t stop me from doing 66.

Regarding the slide release discussion, the slide stop on an M&P Shield 9 does not function as a release. I guess this is another reason why you train with the off-handed slide grab to return to battery; it works with any pistol, whereas every slide stop is not also a slide release.
@madreamer10 ай бұрын
kinda looked like a few times officers most danger here was a possible friendly fire. Or crossfire issues.
@floridasoldat10 ай бұрын
Usually is. Police officers’ training and tactics seem to be more or less abysmal in most cases.
@neatchip12310 ай бұрын
There is certainly a cross-fire risk present here. But perhaps their training has accounted for it? Especially in their city. Sometimes it's your only option. This is why you practice having a tight firing group under pressure and communication. I don't think there was enough communication on "at your rear" or "I'm on your right" so I agree there. That tends to be the flaw in LE versus military. Rank is less important on scene and so you don't have someone giving direction versus in the military, you usually have a coordinator of fire power to some extent. Which makes communication all that more vital in LE situations. Just my two cents.

They are so right about the gen 1 Glock 17 dropping mags. If you didn’t tap on your tac reload there was a good chance the next shot you take the mag drops. I remember that from some action pistol shooting I did as a teen 20 years ago. After that I always tap on reloading but then I know I should never have to tap it again for a malfunction. I have also never been one to pull my slide back to reload, I have always used the slide release. It’s faster, your support hand back to its job faster.

Well you still need to aim even if the weapon is full auto.

But guns never run out of ammo in movies, no need to aim when you have an endless supply of ammunition and not one but two full auto weapons that never run out of ammo.

My Captain trained me on the range and was super particular. He'd sabotage our clips with backward casings and if we didn't drop the mag and cycle to clear it, we'd fail our qualification. We also had to drop mags and use the slide release if we went empty. I can't imagine anyone who carries an auto on duty not doing these things. The cops in this vid did ok. Clearly they came out unscathed and the perp is down. Reportedly no citizens were hurt. it's a win overall. I just think their training officer has some work to do.
