Wow, didn't expect such high praise. Pitt has always been in the pop culture as the cool pretty boy. But he not only is a legit actor, and one of the few actual Hollywood stars left, but his filmography is pretty good. He really walks the walk.

Ad Astra means simply “to the stars”. The full saying is “Per aspera ad astra”- through adversity, to the stars-a famous saying of Roman philosopher Seneca. I’m guessing the studio refused to allow the full quote for the movie title so they settled on the second half. As a classics/sci fi nerd though the invocation is obvious and the title alone makes me wanna go see it. Looks right up my alley.

Dear Grace, Based on your recommendation in a previous video, I happened to watch Barry and am so grateful for the same. I always appreciated Bill Hader's comic antics in SNL, but I did not have the slightest idea that he had the acting chops to pull off such a complex character. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bill had the best role in IT Chapter 2, but after seeing Barry I am not surprised. Looking forward to more of Bill In coming years.

This movie was disappointing, despite a great job by Brad Pitt. The story felt overly narrated. It could have been a good military, or cowboy, or SciFi, or character piece. Instead, it tried all of the above at the expense of sub-plot development. I felt pushed into filling in the holes. In the end, I was less willing to suspend disbelief for everything else.

An anime called Kanata no Astra just ended its run with 12 episodes and that´s why I know what "Astra" means. The ship (because, yes, the story develops out in space) has this phrase displayed: "Ad Astra, Per Aspera", Latin for "To the stars, through difficulties". It´s a space mystery as well, but with a larger / younger cast. Pretty good, if I may say.

I just saw it - I went in not even having seen a trailer- and have to completely agree, it’s one of my all time favourites now too. I gasped at how beautiful it was. And the emotional journey of Pitts character - it’s hard for me to put into words how brilliant this film is. I teared up at several moments and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The only thing is it didn’t feel slow to me at all, not the tiniest bit, but everyone in my cinema left saying that they felt it was. So strange to me, I didn’t look away for a second and I never wanted the journey of this film to end.

Did anyone notice that Brad and Tommy were never in the same shot? It was always the side of his helmet etc, but it looks to me their scenes were shot separately. Maybe I’m crazy but there were rumours during shooting that they didn’t see eye to eye.

At first glimpse you think is about the same formulaic recipe that has been regurgitated so many times in space films. But in actuality is so much more than that because is about the basic human vulnerability we'd all find familiar but is still somehow surprised when we notice it in others. It's an open question of why we have such public confidence and such private doubts.

I hadn't even heard of this movie before watching this video and now you've completely hooked me! (Though that picture of Tommy Lee Jones almost was a jump scare for me. I did not see that coming.)

Hey Grace, another great review, did you ever see Outlander with Sean Connery? It had its moments but got a little complicated from what I remember I was younger then, weren't we all? I look forward to seeing this in the theatre.

OK, saw it last night on local IMAX screen, truly amazing photography and Brad was really good but somehow the story fell flat IMO. 7 out of 10

And oh boy. Ad Astra was not that good. The performances and the visuals were good, but good gravy the pacing! And honestly, the storyline is tired (like many characters in the film!) and predictable. I now will keep in mind Grace has a soft spot for Brad PItt.
