Plenty of republics are corrupt. In France they’ve had Giscard’s Bokassa Diamond scandal, Mitterand blowing up the Rainbow Warrior, and Chirac and Sarkozy both being found guilty of corruption. In Ireland Charles Haughey embezzled the money from a cancer charity fundraiser. In Italy they had Giulio Andreotti (who had a journalist murdered to prevent him revealing his corruption), Bettino Craxi and Berlusconi.

The Royals must know what's going on and must feel the temperature of the nation regarding their nil contribution to capital gains/inheritance taxes. Isn't it time that the government approach the monarchy to suggest to them that a tax contribution is due and fair and in in-line with the tax pain of their people. This needs to be done either by the government or preferably volunteered by the monarchy. Their popularity is dwindling and this needs addressing.
