How refreshing to see a doctor who calmly discusses the pros and cons without raising their voice to hysteria levels, flailing their arms and making generalized statements that don’t apply to every case. Ozempic is a game-changer for me. A1C has dropped from 8 to 6.5, I’ve lost 24 lbs in 6 months (still more to go) and bp has dropped to 128/78. I am lucky I’ve not experienced many side effects except brief bouts of minor nausea. I’ll take that all day long over constant sugar cravings. Best way I’ve heard it described is that semaglutide “turns off the food noise in your head”. That’s exactly how it affects me. I’m very lucky to have a doctor (tho not an obesity specialist) who is very caring and follows my progress closely. Also have never had a problem securing Ozempic where I live in Canada. My only regret is that this miracle drug wasn’t available 40 years ago.

As I understand it, the very restrictive Atkinson-type high-protein, low-carb diets work well, but people don’t stick to them, because the diet is monotonous. Reverting to their pre-Adkins diet, people put the weight back on. Would you agree?

@@stillhere1425Well I don't know of any specific research as to why people revert but here are a couple of my own ( worthless 🤔) thoughts . I am not sure how restrictive Atkins is ? It restricts a lot of processed , high sugar , high bad fat , and carbs that are not really appropriate for human consumption, but mostly that is a ' good thing ' . One problem is that we live in a society where trash foods are highly available but following an Atkins diet needs a bit of planning . Difficult with our busy lives . Another aspect is that people still have a ' special diet ' attitude to weight loss . So you aim for a target weight and once achieved you can do what you like - weight gain is inevitable with that mind set . Low carb , High fat diets are meant to be adopted as a permanent lifestyle not as a temporary destination. This is particularly true for people who put on weight easily because they are particularly sensitive to carbs . For those people they might have some bread once they have reached their target weight, as a treat , but this can easily open up the carb addiction cycle - similar to an alcoholic who thinks having one drink will be ok . My own experience is that combining Atkins type advice with IF has been life saving . I used to be a high wholegrain vegetarian and despite being an sporting was getting fatter and sicker . It was reading , by chance , The Zone that I first read about insulin resistance. It saved my life , but the advice in there was a bit incomplete. The Zone recommends small regular meals . Also, a previous gastric sleeve person that never really lost much weight. Started Zepbound two months ago in addition to still eating low carb and have now lost an additional 14#. I see it as an additional tool and it's given me hope back. I don't think it's about just eating less because I did that with gastric sleeve and still gained all my weight back. I stay on the lowest dose for now even though the weight loss is slow to minimize side effects. I am very careful about getting enough protein in and weight training to prevent muscle loss. I know if I return to the high carb way of life my T2DM will return. It is still a lot of work, but at least I am seeing results and I feel amazing. For me, Mounjaro which is a cousin of Ozempic, worked great. I *really* needed it for about a year. It took almost a year for me to be able to get my diet dialed in properly where I didn't suffer from *constant* hunger. I couldn't eat a proper human diet due to those cravings. It didn't matter that I was doing keto and tried to do carnivore, I was constantly hungry even when physically stuffed. Mounjaro cut the cravings down to where I could finally eat normal meals and be content. After a year of doing that and slowly transitioning from keto to carnivore, today I'm not constantly suffering. My weight loss has significantly slowed down compared to when I was on mounjaro but it's been nearly 6 months since my last prescription of it ran out (and no one had a supply so I slowly weaned myself off from that Jan 9th refill) and today I'm living 95%+ carnivore diet. I cheat occasionally to see how my CGM reacts but I don't have any "keto" treats in my freezer like I did previously to help with the constant cravings. My only real regular cheat is diet cranberry juice watered down.

Some issues from indigestion-probably dues to not following bland diet. Never any nausea or vomiting. Have little appetite and have lost quite a bit of weight. In January/ 2024 my PCP upped my dose from the 0.5 to 1 but made indigestion much worse, so he honored my plea to go back to the 0.5 dose. Eating more meat, lost more weight. Hope this helps. I think a Whole Foods with more veggies, moderate proteins is a lighter load where the side effects won’t kick in. I don’t like meat. I don’t mind fish eggs, cheese, paneer ,Greek yogurt. There are so many other foods nature has gifted us, it is possible to stay keto eating foods you like. As long as you manage your condition with low dose, I think it is a game changer. Let us not judge folks as lazy, lacking discipline and taking the easy path. The enormous stress of doing everything to stay off medication was getting to me. I have rejected many meds in the past . I think Ozempic can be a game changer for diabetes.

I lost 100lbs just staying away from Carbs and eating salads to increase my fiber intake. My A1C went from 8 to 5.6. Then my Dr put me on Ozempic and sticking with low carb plus exercise I dropped another 60lbs. My A1C is now 4.9 and I only take .5 mg of Ozempic a week, down from 1mg. I gained 10 lbs but I supplement with Creatine, protein shakes. I get in around 8-10 miles a day at my job. I also do F3 boot camp workouts 3 days a week. My pants keep getting looser and my body is reshaping into and getting stronger. I'm 47 and can now jog and I can rip out 60 push ups without stopping. I honestly think if you're on this medication. You need to be proactive at getting your diet and exercise figured out first. My Dr wouldn't give it to me until I lost that first 100lbs. That enabled me to get my fitness goals in sight and the medication has put me over the edge to get the to my goal of 200lbs. I don't think I'm going to get there just because of how much muscle I'm gaining. I have veins popping out on my arms, legs and I'm starting to see abs. My issue is my loose skin now. I feel like a new man. It's taken me 2 years to get to 225 from 375lbs . My lowest was 212lbs. I make sure to eat at least 180-200 grams of protein a day. Whether it be shakes, fish, beef, chicken or eggs. I do it everyday and try to keep my carbs under 40 grams a day while getting in lots of fiber.

I went on Ozempic for kidney failure issues (I'm on dialysis) and relapsed back into my severe anorexia after 11 years of very solid recovery. The weight loss and comments people made sent me into a complete tailspin and I had to lose more and more so I stated adding extra diuretics and stopped eating completely. Now they won't let me on the transplant list. I've also had horrible gastroparesis after being on a feeding tube for a year and it was horrible. These meds can cause gastroparesis and id rathet die than go through that again. I don't know why so many specialists act like eating disorders just don't exist and act like these glp1 meds are good for pretty much everyone, weight loss isn't always a good thing, but someone who has never had and never will have an eating disorder won't understand that. Everyone I know on this medication for weight loss, uses the same behaviors that those of us with eating disorders use to lose the same amount of weight in the same amount of time, they're just allowed to get away with it because they're overweight and when we do it we get sent back to treatment. It's a double standard. They need to include emotional support and therapy so people can figure out why they over eat and society needs to drop the fatphibia. Its like we celebrate having eating disorders in this society and it's pathetic.

Constipation and diarrhoea may cause hemorrhoids/piles (from Mayo: swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum that can cause bleeding, pain, itching or prolapse). So not everyone is the same but, as a master (almost), at low carb diet lifestyle, it only takes about 72 hours with no sugars to dampen the brain from releasing endorphins which signal sugar cravings. Sugar is just like a highly addictive drug or substance like opioids or nicotine. Also, the GI will settle. No gas, blotting or inflamation. Crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run. The 1st step is that 1st 3 days. After a week of carnivore/keto, you will experience the freedom from fast food flashy lights, pies cakes cookies and candy, wheat, rice, corn, pasta and potato's. You will most likely fail after awhile but, when you wake one day suffering from diabetic neuropathy in your feet, type 2 and hypertension, you will realize what the average normal human diet is designed to do- Stuff the pockets of the wealthy and make everyone sick. I've now been on a carnivore low carb lifestyle diet for 18 months, still slowly healing from life altering illness and metabolic disease from sugars and seed oils etc. I am a sugar addict and it is difficult but, the rewards outweigh the risks. imo
