Yes, I am a strict carnivore at home etc for onions. I eat out about once a week and have some sort of normal meal. It keeps me sane. I don't have dessert, soft drink or any junk food. I found it necessary to include pepper, onion powder, garlic powder and curry powder. Without these flavourings I had a serious aversion to meat and the carnivore diet became unsustainable

I had an autoimmune flare up when going from keto to carnivore-ish. Since I put pepper on my meat I was eating a lot more pepper. It was the pepper that caused the flare up, not the extra meat or less plants. Dumped the pepper and the flare up immediately turned around. I'd bet a lot it's a plant she was still eating that caused that skin issue, not the meat.

Great commentary! I was already familiar with Lillie’s podcast and it was good hearing your thoughts on it. One thing that occurred to me recently was that we also sometimes automatically assume, because we are so focused on diet, that an issue we are suddenly faced with - arthritis pain, muscle spasms, fatigue… - is being caused by something in our diet, even though we ate the same thing last week and didn’t have the problem. We forget that other things can cause changes also. Things like air quality, a chemical that was in this week’s burger but not last, exposure to a combination of substances that we weren’t exposed to before and the body is trying to adapt to. In my case, I had surgery to remove vocal nodules about 55 years ago. Since then I respond to higher or lower than average barometric pressure with sinus congestion and pressure. I’m also sensitive to high ozone levels. My sleep and energy levels suffer during high ozone periods. After starting a low carb, almost carnivore diet, these issues aren’t as bad, but they are still present. Bottom line: yes, if you develop a problem, look to see if something you ate might be the culprit, but don’t assume it has to be.

Why wont anybody including doctors bring up the fact that since our body's are running on ketones that every blood marker must be reexamined. I totally agree with your statement here. They should definitely study the studies before generalizing when treating someone for anything that are on the keto spectrum. Sure Salt isn't good for you if you aren't keto. Prolonged exposure to SAD diet is NOT the time for consuming extra salt, which makes you retain water... however on a keto/Carnie diet, you'll need much more intake of salt. Also, LDL might be higher on keto. I like the way that most heart Drs. in this space explain it. Your body makes LDL when it needs it. LDL should be read as an indicator and not a cause and effect marker. It's like jumping to the conclusion that Firefighters must be the number 1 cause of house fires, they're always present at the fires. right?? I also agree with graveseeker. They're trained to do that. Which is a huge problem. Just like they're trained with low fat, no sat fat, yes to grains and all forms of vegetables diet. Even still, they only get 1/2 semester in nutrition. EVEN THOUGH I think it was Socrates that said, 'Let food be thy medicine'.

Oxalates are the classic cause of both... and hardly anyone even knows whatbthey are yet. Carni works because it is a zero oxalate diet...but you can still run into problems if its not understood, either by detoxing the oxalates out too fast (rashes, gut issues etc etc) OR by making too many oxalates internally, as a byproductbof breakdown of pufa fats --which chicken and pork have a lot of--into glyoxal and then into oxalate. Why beef is better...

Recently the Wall Street Journal published an article entitled “Men have a Meat Problem.” I read aghast with the continued attack on meat and reliance on the outdated and unproven nutritional advice with unfounded scientific support. I cite this only to say how far we are from convincing the American public of the truth about nutrition.

began eating just meat in 2018, but found that meat was the only thing that didn’t bother me in 2016/2017, before all the carnivore influencers showed up on the scene. Well, Kelly Hogan had a blog, but that’s about it-and Charlene and her husband.. I also found a website called, Eat Meat Drink Water. I wanted to see if this was healthy and doable, and that’s when I found a few people who had done it. I am a big believer in low carb, I don’t think we were meant to consume high carb diets, especially not me. I feel better on carnivore, it’s the only way I feel well-and, it also makes me look younger. I would not be dairy free if I didn’t have to be, I would also eat low sugar fruits and some vegetables if I could tolerate them-but I can’t, so here we are. Do what works for you!

I just asked Google about the prevalence of blood testing: [Disease & Blood Testing - Disease testing became a popular field of study between the 1930s and 40s. During this time it was discovered you could identify diseases through blood testing. This started very basically, with only a few diseases able to be tested - but nowadays you can check for a great number of diseases using only a small vial of blood.] My great-grandfather came from Prussia to southern Wisconsin in 1853. He became a dairy and mixed cash crop farmer. I strongly suspect he and his large family ate beef, pork, chicken, eggs, butter, lard, milk, cheese, game and vegetables/fruit from the large garden. They canned for winter and had a root cellar. I KNOW my grandparents ate the same, and I do too. They worked every day, 365 per year. They lived into their late 90s. Let's not make this complicated folks. Stay the hell away from the middle aisles at the grocery store. Stay away from fast/junk food and seed oils. My blood markers are excellent. I take no meds. I refused a statin. I'm 77 and going strong! I walk 4 miles per day.

I watched a number of Lillie Kane videos, I hope to "Graduate to adding some fruit". But that being said I have 2 more years of losing weight before I'll even try a little. Honestly I expect to stay in the Keto style diet to hopefully put my type 2 into remission and keep it there. I do share her confusion, My LDL and Triglycerides are high. High enough my cardiologist told me diet will not fix it. But like all my doctors he wants me to stay with my diet because of the results of 4 to 5 pounds lost a month. Lets call it 85 pounds lost so far. A keto Carnivore has been the easiest diet for me to maintain. I honestly don't miss the fruit, bread, or convivence foods so there is that. And are tons of keto and carnivore friendly cooking channels in the Carnivore and Keto space. Doesn't hurt that I love to cook.

I wasn't going to add any more but I felt I should comment on the "something sweet in yr food". It could be that simple, but is it. There could be carb leaks, that's possible. Truth in nutrition labeling is BS. I have always had a reasonable Triglycerides until i went lower fat to improve my LDL, sound familiar, I watch my glucose like a hawk not seeing spikes. So if you clicked to see responses because you have a similar issue, don't be disheartened. Just keep finding what works for you and get to the healthiest you you can be. I probably have another 100lb before I get to my healthiest and as I get their things should start to make more sense. I am pretty sure I didn't eat a cake while waiting for my blood to be drawn. As always your mileage vary.

Being a carnivore is more than just a diet; it’s a lifestyle. By focusing on a pure, animal-based diet, you’re reclaiming control over your health, energy, and well-being. This way of eating strips away unnecessary complications, offering mental clarity, physical strength, and a return to how our bodies were meant to thrive. Simplify your nutrition, fuel your body with real food, and get your life back. I’m 67 without any aches or pain. I take cold showers, cold plunges in winter (outdoors) and hot tub 3 to 4 times a week.

In my opinion, and from experience, the want for variety is basically just that, it is a want, and this is fostered through people having the wrong beliefs of what a proper human diet is, or having difficulty in shifting that mindset. Generally, I believe that if a certain food is causing you issues, then you should avoid it, you may be able to take in small amounts of it in the future once you have recovered, as the issues caused by the food previously may have been built up over a long period of time. In short, re-consumption of foods that may have caused you issues in the past may be fine in the beginning, but over time I believe it will bring back the same issues again as the small build ups are not apparent in the beginning.

I'm 60 yr old female. I have been strictly carnivore since April 2023, no dairy, to help with Hashimoto's. I've lost 72lbs (still got a ways to go), joint pains reduced a lot, and feel more energy, but my face breaks out terribly every time I eat fat. I've never had skin issues my whole life, so not sure what is going on. I also had Vit C tested recently and it was very low, below the range. I supplemented and it is back up again. So, hearing you say you've never had any issues when people eat a little veggies is making me think I should try this too. I love eating this way it's so easy, and tasty, my cravings are zero, whereas before I was hungry all the time. I worked with Dr. Elizabeth Bright for over a year and she didn't know why this was happening either. So I'm going to experiment and see if adding a bit of veg back helps any. 😏it was a classic oxalate dump symptom, many get rashes when they release the nastsy stuff via the skin. Everyone releases it differently, some more from gut or kidneys than skin. Failure to understand the problems asociated with oxalate overload and the detox process that initiates when one is no longer consuming oxalates is the main reason people run into trouble with both keto and carni diets, esp carni as it is zero oxalate.

The longest stretch has been 3 1/2 years and I dropped my weight by over 50 lbs to my recommended BMI, reversed several autoimmune conditions (eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic keratosis), yet went back to a Mediterranean diet and lost all ground again in no time. This time I have been keto (less than 20 grams carbs daily) since only June 2, and have lost 25 lbs, but am having trouble staying in ketosis, even just much of the time? The only sure carb I eat is 1/4 cup of kefir a day (2 grams carbs), per my gastroenterologist. I have diverticulitis and have had too many antibiotics. If I stop taking the kefir, I get a flare up. So I am reluctant to stop the kefir. Surely 2 grams carbs is not keeping me out of ketosis? Any suggestions?

Alcohol is for the most part straight sugar. My neighbor bitches about not losing weight but he is eating "healthy".. then I'll see him have 10-20 tequila on the rocks a week. And it's not a 1 shot glass either. 2-4 shot big pours. Like bro.. you weight 320 lbs and are 6'3. You're not losing weight because you're consuming several thousand calories a week in tequilla alone and then going to bed. How that breaks down in your body.. who knows. I can tell you it isn't breaking down into protein and it's not as is fat. So it is likely that it processes into sugar which is then stored as fat.

@@01Snorky According to Dr Lustig, alcohol is broken down by the liver in almost the same way as fructose. It produces fat. That's why drinking lots of alcohol causes fatty liver disease, and is also a source of visceral fat (the "beer belly"), alongside sugar consumption (the fructose part of it).

I have been ketovore or carnivore for about 4 years and was feeling great until about a year ago when I started having severe headaches. I had cholesterol checked. LDL was 800+ and found out I had a 95 percent blocked carotid. CAC score was 13. Familial Hypercholesterolemia. I fought Dr's hard not to go on statins but vascular surgeon wouldn't operate until I got LDL down at least to 300 with statins. Had surgery in May and still on 3 different kinds of statins. LDL is 47. My cardiologist says he has no issues with my being carnivore but that I will have to stay on statins. I'm severely bummed.

Thanks- it would be great if when you say “test the arteries” you could be specific. Even at the end, you say two ultrasound tests but still not specific. Are are you talking about carotid artery ultrasound or echocardiogram or CAC? Just wondering.

Dr. Westman I tried your recommendation to just eat one piece of organic chocolate bar for a dessert. I went through a week of absolutely CRAVING another piece of chocolate. I'm glad this method works for some people but I have to abstain to feel good

The rash 3:21 is from the egg whites. My wife had the same rash and I figured out she had an allergic reaction to the whites. She stopped eating eggs and the rash was gone. She now eats eggs and reduced the whites and consumes mostly yolk now.

CAC seems less helpful to me than a CIMT or CT angiogram. CAC will tell you nothing about soft plaques which are the most deadly.

Her rash was probably oxalate dumping. I first got a scalp rash on keto whenever I did a fast that was longer than 48 hours. Now on carnivore, and it's there all the time. Just got Sally Norton's book since it's supposed to contain info on how to mitigate the problem.

What vegetables would be ok to add? I know I will never be able to afford to do any blood tests so the numbers aren’t important to me. I also know this diet is a major switch from what most Americans eat so the benefits and side effects that people experience are vastly different. I have experienced very strange changes since starting the diet. I have unrelenting muscle tension in my back and legs when standing and it never goes away, I have a dry film in my mouth, strange hot flashes, no appetite, zero energy or stamina, slow pounding heartbeat, inexplicable and sudden deep sleep in the middle of the day, and I’m experiencing extreme irritability and impatience. On the good side, a lot of inflammation is settling down and that’s a big relief. Unfortunately, I’m not losing any weight so that’s a very depressing reality. The really sad part for me is that I have been in ketosis before so I know what it feels like and so far since I have been on this diet I truly don’t think I have been in ketosis even once. I’m trying hard to stick with it but the benefits are definitely being overshadowed by the many negative side effects I’m experiencing. I know it takes a lot of time to adjust but my patience is really being tested. This is by far the most challenging difficult diet I have ever been on. My sister decided to start when I did and she says she is absolutely miserable. It’s so painful and discouraging to give up every food you have ever loved and go on a diet that consists of food you have never liked and see that you are not even losing an ounce despite making that huge sacrifice. I know this diet works for a lot of people so I’m trying my best not to give up. I hope it will pay off eventually.

With the ketovore/carnivore way of eating I was able to lose 90lbs and get off of insulin injections and off of asthma inhalers. I also take a lower dose of arthritis medication. Plus, I am no longer hungry all the time. Food freedom is the best!!!
