I am 74 and been on Carnivor for 16 months. I am no longer pre-diabetic, blood pressure normal no more tabs, diagnosed with Dementia 4 years ago and was deteriorating rapidly and hospitalized twice. In my addled state I was persuaded to try the Carnivore diet. It's now 15 months on the diet I have lost 30kgs. There is no sign of any of the above issues. My cholestol is higher than normal, which the brain needs to irradicate the dementia, simply put. I will forever be grateful to get my life back. Great video Dr Westman, thank you for debunking these guys. While I'm sure they are great in their own field, they are really off base here. Some of these myths re: cholesterol, kidney function and protein, scurvy for the love of God, constipation, and cancer are simply a lack of awareness that the literature has moved on in the last few decades since they were indoctrinated with this in medical school. And not understanding basic biology and botany, like the fact that plants contain defense chemicals, is pure ignorance. The vast majority of plants are inedible, meaning that even a small amount of that plant will make you extremely sick or even kill you. That's a fact that is easily verifiable if they wanted to do even a cursory look at botany, which they clearly haven't done. Lastly, the whole point about eating a biologically appropriate diet is that you don't need supplements, so on Carnivore there are no products to sell.

And yet even our doctors advise against this diet (they have no vested financial interest in doing this). My sister was told she had stage 3 kidney disease by a doctor a few years ago. It had gone from stage 2 to 3, and that worried all of us. This doctor said it wasn't reversible and is progressive. This doctor wanted her to go vegan and said protein would kill her kidneys even more. Of course, that doctor is a vegan herself. I asked her if she was diabetic, and she said her blood sugar was normal. I told her to ask for a hemoglobin A1C. When she got that she was diagnosed with prediabetes - which scared her even more. (I think I read that most people with kidney disease also have diabetes.) She has another doctor now who put her on a h igh protein keto diet, and my sister has reversed her kidney disease to the point that she has been told she "officially" doesn't have kidney disease anymore. :) She still does "dirty" keto (she has some low carb tortillas made with wheat from time to time). I feel like carnivore helped pull me out of such a dark place. I was for over a year depressed and felt like life had no meaning. My mom and dad both passed away last year in 2022 only 2 months apart from each other. My mom had cirrhosis of the liver, all the docs kept asking if she drank. My mom was not a drinker. Back in her day she did hard drugs but when I was a teenager she turned her life around and got her masters in microbiology. She would teach, biology, anatomy and physiology and microbiology at South Texas College and was my inspiration to become an RN, when she passed I literally spiraled and gave up. Since starting carnivore, I feel like that darkness has finally lifted. Within this 2 weeks period, I joined a gym, signed up for my chemistry classes and created my first KZbin carnivore grocery haul video. The energy and happiness I feel is out of this world. I was struggling with depression and low energy on the carnivore diet, then I went hard core all in - eating only beef, butter, Redmond's salt and water and making sure I ate 3x per day and I IMMEDIATELY felt much better (within 24 hours). The depression lifted, and my energy surged. At age 59 I feel better than I have in at least 20 years.

I went through nursing school (US)in 2019 and was HORRIFIED by the very brief nutrition portion of the program. It was extremely outdated and upsidedown and any questions i put forth (respectfully)were immediately shut down, even though I could offer extremely credible medical studies from places like Harvard contradicting what they were teaching. After a couple attempts I shut up so I could get my grade. It wasn't the only textbook that completely ignored new studies (i mean in the last decade or so) regarding medications, metabolism, and mental health. I graduated feeling extremely disappointed and more cynical than when i went in.

Surgeons are highly specialized, spending years after medical school focusing on perfecting their surgical craft. Very little nutritional health is covered during medical school. Far less while gaining specialization skill set. On top of this, the entire working atmosphere these surgeons operate in, pun intended, is hyper focused on their awesome specialized skills. For good reason during surgery, of course. My point is these people are quite regularly living in this super niche scenario where they are superheroes, doing things nobody else can. Most people, including myself, would struggle to differentiate how amazing they are at the thing they are trained to do, versus how amazing they are. So easy to fall into the trap of believing that you are smarter/better/more than almost everyone else. A surgeon who falls off a cruise ship at sea will quickly find out, medical school does not a navy seal make.

The last doctor I visited was telling me about how cutting out some of my parathyroid glands was going to make me feel better, that is when I switched from mostly plants to mostly meats and it only took a month for most health issues to go away. My back pain took almost 4 years to go away but I have been able to do things like running and twisting my back that I couldn't do since 2005. As a 73 y.o. type-2 diabetic and 240 lbs with an A1C of 10.2 and high blood pressure. My Doctor wanted to start me on a shot and double my metformin to 1000 mg. I agreed on the Metformin increase but refused the shot. Two weeks later my best friend of over 50 years died of a sudden heart attack. I was stunned and shocked although we were both in our early 70s and relatively healthy, it was still a wake-up call for me to take my health more seriously. When I committed to lose weight, I started the carnivore diet first. I remained on it for about 2 weeks but started to feel ill with diarrhea. It's referred to as the Carnivore flu and I didn't know about it at the time or that it would pass. So, I started on the Keto diet which allowed me some low-carb veggies. I have stayed on it for 6 months now. For 2 months I ate -/+ 20 carbs. No problem. In July I met my first weight loss goal of 125 so I upped my carb limit to 50. I continued to lose weight and I never felt hungry. Fast forward to now, and I have lost over 40 pounds and I have dipped below 195 now for the first time in over 15 years! My latest A1C was 5.2 and some days I don't take Metformin at all and my blood pressure is well within normal readings. Good luck to all if you're trying to take control of your eating habits. I am an RN, formerly worked on joint replacement/rehab unit. Dr. Westman (and others) has opened my eyes about the primary significance of a proper human diet. I would love to see someone over-haul the diet typically served in hospitals. One of the problems is that hospitals concern themselves with "patient satisfaction scores." Patients would probably complain about a healthy diet menu because they have been misinformed about a what is a truly healthy diet. Public education is a very steep hill to climb.

"Just because you're a doctor, doesn't mean you know anything except what you were trained in" And even in what you were trained in, that is the problem nowadays for most of the medical doctors. Their goal is not to have healthy patients, their goal is to maximize their profit by putting their patients in a relative unhealthy state where they become a cash cow. Too healthy people and the doctors get broke, too unhealthy people and the patient dies before having been milked. The convergence of interests between doctor and patient is true up to a certain point. Where are the safeguards in case of abuse of these guardians of health ? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes ?

My son, almost on a weekly basis will be removing toes, feet, legs, fingers and hands all because they have diabetes, and have been unable or unwilling to lose weight to become healthier. His job is to care for people's ailments, not get them into a health program. Whose job should that be? The GP? A nutritionist? We already have those and both of them are wrong. So, it seems to me that we are on our own to figure out what is best for our bodies. Both, nutritionists and GPs may differ in their solution to being unhealthy. We are our own advocate, and we all need to find whatever works for us.

@@Livetoeat171 The problem is the monopolistic position of the doctors toward health. If nobody can say anything on the topic of health except them and be considered as experts, if they are corrupted as corportation, nobody can notice it legally. The global advices made by high ranking doctors in the public health's institution are corrupted, that is easily done with the money the lobbies have. And the others doctors under them have the following choice, sticking to that advice and win money, they will of course do that if they do not ask any question or did not understand the science, or if they know this are lies but want money anyway (first in order to reinbuse their students loan). Or saying that is false, loosing patients that want the standard solution, risk costly lawsuits because they did not follow the official guideline. Or even, it depends of your country, having their affiliation to the social security system revoked (in my country, France, that is like a death sentence). Consequently the vast majority of the corportation make the first choice.

Then he said but don't go carnivore. At the time I had no intention of eating only animal products so didn't say anything but now I wish I had asked why. After getting a CAC score of zero but with high LDL (trig/HDL ratio is good) he still recommended a low dose of statin. I'm 65 years old and said no. He then said if it were his mother he would put her on a statin (emotive manipulation or genuine concern, who knows?). My LDL went up even more after that and I thought my GP was going to have kittens . Interestingly my fasting insulin result had gone from 7 down to 5 in the 6 months since I had seen the cardiologist, and yes my trig/HDL ratio had improved as well. I still said no to the statin. I'm very thankful for medical professionals providing information like this so I can make an informed decision.

Guar gum and soy lecithin are my biggest triggers which are in almost all processed food.

I do not have kidney issues. Carnivore works for kidney because it gets rid of oxalates. You just have to do a super low oxalate diet that some doctors recommend for kidney disease or kidney stones.

@gloriaiarango , I had between Stage 2 and 3 kidney failure blood levels prior to going carnivor. Now I have normal eGFR and creatinine. But I do have very high protein in urine levels. Dr Ken Berry said it was most likely historical kidney damage. I only have one kidney and so I chose to ignore the high protein in urine. It has improved but is still way off the chart for normal levels.

Enough people have tried this way of eating and have persisted long enough for medical professionals to recognize the need to stop and assess *why* people are successful on it long-term. This is especially the case when supposedly obvious risks don't manifest themselves, such as a lack of vitamin deficiencies, a lack of heart disease, and a lack of digestive issues resulting from a lack of fiber. If anything, doctors speaking to carnivore without recognizing that what they are saying is continually being disproven through many people's experience, is only likely to lead people to alternative sources of information, not least of which are their own bodies.

My goal is to get off all meds if possible. I believe in the carnivore diet. I was on the Atkins diet years ago but didn't stay on it. But now with the carnivore diet it's much simpler. Just eat meat and stay hydrated with electrolytes. Maybe not that simple but simpler than the other diets and certainly simpler than vegan or vegetarian.

Last year I saw a cardiologist who unequivocally told me that I needed to be on a "Mediterranean diet" (lots of fruits, veggies, bread, pasta, grains, legumes, etc.) for my coronary artey disease. He made this recommendation even though he knew full well I was a full blown type 2 diabetic. It is very frightening to me that many cardiologists are clueless when it comes to the true "root cause" of atherosclerosis-------insulin resistance. Most of these cardiologists are still living in the world of Ancel Keys and his outdated "cholesterol-heart" hypothesis from 60 years ago. He looks at it with some curiosity, wondering about its origins; he would like to see actual data that might come from a randomized control study which supports some of the claims of the “VideoDocs”. He does not outright accept nor reject the idea that the carnivore diet may have dangers or benefits. He seems more curious than condemning of it. Thank you for this critique. It is more proof that we can't blindly trust any given doctor. I'm speaking about the two that you critiqued of course.

I am so glad I changed doctors last year and mine is Rohn Rigby MD who is a keto/carnivore friendly doctor. It is so nice to be able to talk about my questions and concerns and he understands where my thoughts are coming from.

There are many people who have come out and reported that they have been carnivore, meaning eating carnivore for years some for 10, 20, there was one who's been eating carnivore for as much as 40 years. They've quietly came out and revealed it. Plus there are scores of people who are going carnivore and self reporting and getting results. Further many have tried other diets without success and developed issues from them and tried carnivore and felt better. Some have struggled at first but once they got through it they swore they'd never go back.

I went carnivore, but not as a zealot. I still eat some veggies and occasionally eat some carbs now, but I started after trying multiple weight loss methods and had hit 280lbs. Now, down to 180 with all my lab values looking excellent, I allow myself some carbs, but they now make me feel unpleasant. Also, consuming almost any carbs cause me to become ravenous the following morning, which is not typical during the carnivore diet.

I am 71 year old female, have followed ketovore diet for about 6 months gradually reducing carbs to =/< 20 g carbs daily. Without being hungry, I have lost body fat (supposedly so difficult to do at my post-menopausal age.). My HDL has gone from 40 to 90! Triglycerides 63. I may be the healthiest I have been in my adult life or in my whole life! My diet is primarily delicious and satiating ruminant meat. Feeling great! I am still working and am told that I look much younger than my years. I am being more active, added resistance exercise because I have the energy to do it. Others ask me how I do it. I just can't believe that carnivore is in any way not a good idea. Thank you, Dr. Westman! I recommend highly End Your Carb Confusion.

I have to push back on Dr. Westman's assertion that a better way than our distant ancestor's diet. out of 4 million years of evolution, only 12,000 years ago did we transition to agriculture. We were forced to do so by the Younger Dryas event. The fruits and vegetables that we eat today have only existed for 8,000 years. Some not even that long ago. On the time scale above it's hard for me to believe that human body is designed to consume plants on an ongoing basis. I believe plants were eaten only when meat was not available. How many plants could they have known to be harmless. Most plants are toxic to humans. How many members of their group could they afford to lose to plant experimentation. They needed every member of the group to bring down the Megafauna they hunted.

Yes, and even our agricultural ancestors knew that you had to do a lot to those plant foods in order to make them at all edible. They used to let their bread dough sour and their vegetables ferment before consuming them. The Scots had a ridiculously long process to try to get all the phytic acid out of their oats, which literally nobody on Earth does anymore. If you don't get the phytic acid out of your grains, it leaches minerals from your body and eventually your body sacrifices your teeth in order to be able to keep your bones intact. How many people are shoveling down oatmeal every day, and then wondering why they have four new cavities every time they go to the dentist? It's really very tragic how misled we've been.

Thanks for the encouragement to stay the course! Some of us who are alone in our families on this trek, need this encouragement! They all think I'm nuts and going to die of a heart attack, although another friend who just saw me said I'm looking healthier and younger every day. I've been mostly on and a little bit off the carnivore diet for the past 5 years. Strict now for over 1.5 years, except coffee. I went from 298lbs to 195lbs. Being only able to walk a mile at most and be in pain. On the carnivore diet I ran for 40 minutes with my daughters soccer team which I coached. A week ago took down a retaining wall with other men and was not sore the next day where before I would struggle for 3 days just getting out of bed. Glaucoma pressures gone, skin issues gone, most arthritis is gone, no longer debilitating, gerd's gone, Meneires vertigo is rare, diabetes gone, migraine gone except when I ate only 4 raspberries during carnivore. The list is long. The only issues I still had was a growing diverticulitis problem and depression. Cut out coffee and dairy and both of those now are improving even under extreme stress. I'm an Eosinophilic, which is way better, chest pain is gone, severe choking gone instead of every meal, but that may be why I don't tolerate dairy. I also have upped my fat to help the depression. I find just eating suet(I get it with a butchered cow) more pleasant and doesn't make me nauseous compared to cooked fat. I am doing an 8 week beef and water, little bit of bacon elimination trial. I hope to see if I can tolerate adding back in eggs since I raise chickens. My Mayo Clinic Dr advised that keeping a food diary helps along with the long list of what I dont suffer anymore! Thanks again! I can't believe how much better I feel and can function and my blood work is far far better than it has been before. The bad thing Is I have not yet recouped the carnivore diet high I first had when I started this with the 3 times breaking this diet in the last 5 years.

I was inspired to start my own KZbin channel after just 7 days on Carnivore. I have a heart condition and an autoimmune disease. After the first week, my heart is actually behaving and my autoimmune symptoms are lessened! It’s just crazy to me! I was born with this heart condition and this is the first time in 43 years that I have had a full day with no irregular heart rhythm. I don’t care what others believe, I care about what I know from experience and THIS diet, is proving to be a literal lifesaver for me.

Oxalates is the other key to the autoimmune issues not just carbs. That is why carnivore helps so many people when keto does not.
